We explored selling computers with that OS at the computer shop I worked around 2004 |

Thought so, but wasn't sure. |

Slackware hasn't had a release in almost 3 years. |

10:21 |
Dyrcona |
I always thought S.u.S.E. was derived from Red Hat. Turns out to be a Slackware derivative. |
10:22 |
Bmagic |
Slackware was my first linux install. Still holds a place in my heart |
10:22 |
Bmagic |
Played the heck out of asteriods |
10:26 |
Dyrcona |
Slackware was my second, and still the easiest to install in my opinion. |
10:27 |
Dyrcona |
My first Linux was mkLinux on a PPC Mac Peforma 6001. mkLinux was a Red Hat derivative develop by the OSF under contract to Apple back in the early '90s. |
10:27 |
Dyrcona |
Well, mid '90s. |
10:28 |
Bmagic |
Good stuff |
10:28 |
Dyrcona |
Then, Slackware, then Red Hat on a laptop, then Debian, and now, Ubuntu. |
10:29 |
* Dyrcona |
also uses FreeBSD and OpenBSD, and constantly threatens himself with switching to one or the other for his laptop to escape systemd. ;) |

mkLinux was kind of cool, 'cause it ran the Linux kernel as a server on the Mach microkernel. |

I wasn't a fan of Ubuntu at first. As they were trying to be "Linux for human beings" but I have a new found respect for Ubuntu now with the Evergreen work |

mkLinux appears in the graphic as a stand alone. I always assumed it was derived from Red Hat because it used RPM. |

Does the cache busting in the eg templates also apply to the web client "pages?" |
11:30 |

It looks like the current staff templates get stored in /tmp/eg_template_cache. I suppose I should look into how the cache busting works. |

I’ve checked out rel_3_3 and am running through the server_upgrade doc. aside from fixing 2.12.0 to 3.3.0 a number of times, it’s been uneventful. I’m at the part that talks about adding STAFF_CLIENT_STAMP_ID to the make install and I’m blocked. does this still work for 3.3 or should I remove that section from the instructions in the 3.3 branch? |
11:38 |
jeff |
stephengwills: you're blocked as in something isn't working? are you getting an error that you can share? |
11:39 |
stephengwills |
I’m stopped in my process because I don’t know if this note should be in my documentation and so I can’t proceed without guidance. |
11:39 |
stephengwills |
I’m just trying to make a 3.3 version of that guide |
11:40 |
stephengwills |
can people still attached to 3.3.0 using xul? |
11:41 |
stephengwills |
if I make a staff stamp etc? or should I remove that step in the instructions |
11:47 |
Dyrcona |
stephengwills: Yes, you can still attache to 3.3.0 using xul if the XUL files are built on the server correctly. |
11:47 |
Dyrcona |
By default, no. |
11:47 |
dbwells |
stephengwills: Our current practice is to update those instructions only in point release tag branches. I have been leaving that section alone for 3.2 and 3.3. |

hm, what does 'Auto-Generate Barcodes' (copy editor, under the Defaults tab) actually do? |

as far as I can tell it has no impact |

intent is to take the first barcode and generate sequential barcodes with checkdigit in the subsequent copies |

we don't use it, i haven't experimented with it since xul. |
