09:53 Bmagic Everyone rushing to recompile the kernel to 5.0.8?
09:54 Christineb joined #evergreen
09:57 Dyrcona No. I don't use custom kernels any more.
09:57 berick Bmagic: ?
09:57 Bmagic https://fossbytes.com/linux-kernel-exploit-remote-race-condition/
10:04 Dyrcona Heh. Reported by Huawei.... :)
10:04 berick heh
10:09 Dyrcona Looks like it was found by continuous integration bot.--We need moar tests!
10:11 Bmagic I really enjoyed looking at this
10:11 Bmagic https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Linux_Distribution_Timeline.svg
10:11 Bmagic lol, Lindows -> Linspire -> dead mid 2008
10:12 Bmagic I didn't know it was derived from debian
10:12 berick well today I learned about https://ubuntusatanic.org/

10:13 Bmagic oh wow berick!
10:13 berick "the best free software and free metal music on one CD."
10:13 Bmagic I see it in the svg graph I linked
10:14 berick Bmagic: yeah, that's where I saw it
10:14 Bmagic lol, free metal music
10:14 Dyrcona They lost me at "How To Rotate Text In MS Paint."
10:17 Dyrcona Bmagic: You didn't what was derived from Debian?
10:17 Bmagic Lindows
10:18 Bmagic We explored selling computers with that OS at the computer shop I worked around 2004
10:18 Dyrcona Thought so, but wasn't sure.
10:19 Dyrcona Slackware hasn't had a release in almost 3 years.
10:20 * Dyrcona wants to some day build his own Linux From Scratch, but no time right now.
10:21 Dyrcona I always thought S.u.S.E. was derived from Red Hat. Turns out to be a Slackware derivative.
10:22 Bmagic Slackware was my first linux install. Still holds a place in my heart
10:22 Bmagic Played the heck out of asteriods
10:26 Dyrcona Slackware was my second, and still the easiest to install in my opinion.
10:27 Dyrcona My first Linux was mkLinux on a PPC Mac Peforma 6001. mkLinux was a Red Hat derivative develop by the OSF under contract to Apple back in the early '90s.
10:27 Dyrcona Well, mid '90s.
10:28 Bmagic Good stuff
10:28 Dyrcona Then, Slackware, then Red Hat on a laptop, then Debian, and now, Ubuntu.
10:29 * Dyrcona also uses FreeBSD and OpenBSD, and constantly threatens himself with switching to one or the other for his laptop to escape systemd. ;)
10:30 sandbergja joined #evergreen
10:30 Dyrcona mkLinux was kind of cool, 'cause it ran the Linux kernel as a server on the Mach microkernel.
10:30 Bmagic I wasn't a fan of Ubuntu at first. As they were trying to be "Linux for human beings" but I have a new found respect for Ubuntu now with the Evergreen work
10:35 khuckins joined #evergreen
10:37 Dyrcona mkLinux appears in the graphic as a stand alone. I always assumed it was derived from Red Hat because it used RPM.
10:38 * dbwells donated money to Lindows once upon a time, wonders what his "lifetime" license is worth...
10:39 Bmagic lol
10:39 Bmagic dbwells++
10:40 Dyrcona :)
10:46 berick hah, dbwells++

11:29 Dyrcona Does the cache busting in the eg templates also apply to the web client "pages?"
11:30 sandbergja joined #evergreen
11:31 Dyrcona It looks like the current staff templates get stored in /tmp/eg_template_cache. I suppose I should look into how the cache busting works.

11:37 stephengwills I’ve checked out rel_3_3 and am running through the server_upgrade doc.  aside from fixing 2.12.0 to 3.3.0 a number of times, it’s been uneventful.  I’m at the part that talks about adding STAFF_CLIENT_STAMP_ID to the make install and I’m blocked.  does this still work for 3.3 or should I remove that section from the instructions in the 3.3 branch?
11:38 jeff stephengwills: you're blocked as in something isn't working? are you getting an error that you can share?
11:39 stephengwills I’m stopped in my process because I don’t know if this note should be in my documentation and so I can’t proceed without guidance.
11:39 stephengwills I’m just trying to make a 3.3 version of that guide
11:40 stephengwills can people still attached to 3.3.0 using xul?
11:41 stephengwills if I make a staff stamp etc?  or should I remove that step in the instructions
11:47 Dyrcona stephengwills: Yes, you can still attache to 3.3.0 using xul if the XUL files are built on the server correctly.
11:47 Dyrcona By default, no.
11:47 dbwells stephengwills: Our current practice is to update those instructions only in point release tag branches.  I have been leaving that section alone for 3.2 and 3.3.
11:48 dbwells stephengwills: Here is the relevant commit in 3_3_0 - https://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=commitdiff;h=47f5b3de378df086d9f5644cda4ba04b3abad9d2
11:48 pinesol dbwells: [evergreen|Dan Wells] Customize upgrade notes for 3.3.0 - <http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=commit;h=47f5b3d>
11:49 Dyrcona My answer is too cryptic. :)
11:52 Dyrcona In a single word, the answer to stephengwills question is "Yes."
11:53 berick hm, what does 'Auto-Generate Barcodes' (copy editor, under the Defaults tab) actually do?
11:53 berick as far as I can tell it has no impact
11:55 dwilliamson joined #evergreen
12:01 yboston joined #evergreen
12:07 jeff intent is to take the first barcode and generate sequential barcodes with checkdigit in the subsequent copies
12:08 jeff we don't use it, i haven't experimented with it since xul.
