Well, I wanted to ask if gmcharlt was planning on doing the 2.10 release today. |
10:28 |
Dyrcona |
2.9.8 is going to be the last 2.9 release unless there are security issues. |
10:29 |

sure, I can cut it this afternoon |

And +1 to removing the old osrf-gateway and (maybe) osrf-http-translator. |
11:24 |
jvwoolf1 |
Hi all. I'm curious if there are any ramifications for deleting old offline sessions from the database (other than staff not being able to see the exceptions anymore)? |
11:24 |
jeff |
would that then leave us without any http (or https) endpoints other than XML-RPC? |
11:25 |
Dyrcona |
jeff: osrf-gateway-v1 and osrf-websockets-translator would still be there. |
11:25 |
Dyrcona |
jvwoolf1: I don't think so. |
11:25 |
jeff |
Dyrcona: oh, of course. |
11:26 |
jeff |
though the latter isn't http, i somehow overlooked the former. :-) |
11:26 |
Dyrcona |
jeff: I thought it was http... |
11:26 |
jeff |
(for about as long as it took to ask my question) |
11:26 |
jeff |
Dyrcona: it's websockets. says so right on the tin. :-) |
11:27 |
Dyrcona |
jeff: I thought it was a http translator to websockets, not a websockets connection. |
11:27 |
Dyrcona |
I could be wrong. I frequently am.... |
11:27 |
Dyrcona |
I'll look later. |
11:28 |
Dyrcona |
Ah, you are correct, sir. |
11:29 |
Dyrcona |
I should retract that silly email that I sent. :) |
11:29 |
jeff |
ah, that's where my brain went wrong. you said "osrf-gateway" and i thought "the endpoint traditionally at /osrf-gateway-v1", when what you were really referencing was the endpoint traditionally at /gateway :-) |
11:29 |
Dyrcona |
Right, yeah. My fingers and brain don't always cooperate. |
11:30 |
jeff |
hey, me too! weird! :-) |
11:32 |
Dyrcona |
"Never that stupid question." You'll get it when you get it. :) |
11:32 |
Dyrcona |
Just another example. |
11:32 |
Dyrcona |
I should probably fetch in OpenSRF. It has been a while. |
11:33 |
Dyrcona |
And no changes. Guess it hasn't been as long as I thought. |
11:36 |
Dyrcona |
I guess berick is not asking to remove the osrf-http-translator, yet. |
11:37 |
Dyrcona |
On a somewhat related note, I wonder if it would be beneficial to split the Java and Python libraries from OpenSRF into their own projects? |
11:37 |
Dyrcona |
I sometimes think "yes" and sometimes think "no." |
11:37 |
Dyrcona |
kenstir is not around. I'd value his opinion since he said he had to fork the Java libraries for his Android client. |
11:38 |
berick |
yeah, not ready to call for translator deprecation yet. |
11:44 |
dbwells |
Actually, I am responsible for the Java/Android forking, during the GSoC project. It's always something I hoped to get back to. I would hate to see the Java (or Python) libraries split off, especially it that's a factor. |
11:46 |
Dyrcona |
dbwells: Thanks. I didn't realize that. |
11:47 |
Dyrcona |
It would be nice to see them get some use. I've always meant to do something with Java and Python. |
11:47 |
Dyrcona |
But, time.... |
11:52 |
Dyrcona |
Which reminds me that I've been tasked with looking at constrictor for about two years now.... ;) |

The OpenSRF JS bindings, which are used for a few bits of the OPAC, also use osrf-http-translator. Not sure if we would eventually use websockets there as well or if that will be strictly a staff client thing. |
12:40 |
berick |
jeffdavis: the opensrf js bindings support websockets now, as part of the staff client dev |

and can be used in theory by any web page, not just staff client |

Looking at https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:release_process:schedule, it looks like 2.8 reached its end of life for security fixes back in June. Whoever updates the Downloads page today might want to remove it, while setting 2.9 to security only. |

Hmmm...maybe if we add comments to the download pages on when we should remove releases or move them to security, it will be easier to remember to do so when the time comes. |
