09:08 kmlussier graced: Good morning! :)
09:08 graced Good morning!
09:10 graced kmlussier: I was cleaning out my desk and found the release notes for 1.6 that we handed out at ALA lo these many years ago...
09:11 kmlussier graced: 1.6 was the new, cutting edge version of Evergreen when I first started at MassLNC.
09:11 graced We have come far.
09:12 graced If nothing else the web client will make for prettier screen shots.
09:12 graced :-)

09:23 * Dyrcona prefers browser client. The current client is a web client, too.
09:24 graced true enough
09:24 graced I'll just call it webby
09:24 mrpeters yeah 1.6 was the good stuff!
09:24 graced :)
09:24 Dyrcona heh.
09:24 mrpeters wasn't that the first version of Craftsman?
09:25 mrpeters i still love that skin -- whoever the artist was for that did a wonderful job -- it was so popular when I was at ISL
09:25 Dyrcona Alas, poor Craftsman....I used to know the vata well, Horatio....

09:58 Guest72878 The system used to do it automatically...
10:23 Dyrcona oops.. was just going to answer....
10:23 Dyrcona busy morning....

11:02 jeff web staff client doesn't have a Refresh button on a patron account. This wasn't missed until we changed a patron profile and wanted to trigger a penalty recalculation.
11:03 jeff thinking about it a little bit, rather than add the refresh button (might still ve a good idea later), it seems to be a good idea to trigger a refresh of system penalties when the user is saved (optionally only when changing profile?)
11:03 jeff I suspect that there is some existing example of this around billing, so I'll probably start looking there first.
11:14 berick +1 to server-side penalty recal when user profile changes
11:16 Dyrcona Interesting: And I recall it being noted before, but OpenSRF installs mod-perl though it is Evergreen that actually needs it.
11:18 jeff Dyrcona: yes, i believe there was a recent bug or pair of bugs to adjust that back to "as it should be".
11:18 Dyrcona jeff: Yep. That's probably where I recall it being mentioned recently.
11:18 jeff i know that there was discussion here, at a minimum. i think i went looking to see where the split had taken place.
11:19 Dyrcona I just restarted Apache after installing OpenSRF and no errors.
11:19 Dyrcona That's what reminded me.
11:21 * Dyrcona runs off to FIX ALL THE THINGS!!!!
11:28 jeff heh. weird quirk with payments.
11:29 jeff click Bills tab, make a payment (all xacts are selected). after applying payment, no xacts are selected.
11:29 jeff select all, make second payment, now all xacts remain selected.
11:30 jeff i suspect that the preferred behavior would be for them to not be unselected after the first payment.
11:30 * jeff looks for a launchpad bug

12:16 csharp acq--
13:24 rhamby csharp: you did that wrong
13:24 rhamby acq--
13:24 rhamby acq--
13:24 rhamby acq--
13:24 rhamby You always have to do it at least three times when it's acq or sip.
13:27 tsbere rhamby: But what do you do if you *like* something that is happening in acq or sip? Hypothetically speaking, of course...
13:30 kmlussier You do this:
13:30 kmlussier acq++
13:30 kmlussier acq++
13:30 kmlussier acq++
13:31 Dyrcona :)
13:31 Dyrcona @karma acq
13:31 pinesol_green Dyrcona: Karma for "acq" has been increased 3 times and decreased 4 times for a total karma of -1.
13:31 Dyrcona Sounds about right. ;)
13:32 rhamby tsbere: I'll cross that bridge when I get to it
13:36 mrpeters how many records can Vandelay reasonably handle with the methods documented at http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.10/_import_records.html
13:38 mrpeters 50K records?  have a library that sent records to OCLC for cleanup and can't decide if I should just try and use fingerprints and handle it like a new record load or if they should try and use Vandelay and save themselves some money
13:40 jwoodard joined #evergreen
13:41 Dyrcona mrpeters: I loaded the Gutenberg records on a smallish setup with Vandelay a few years ago. That's about 40K records.
13:41 Dyrcona It will keep loading after the client times out.
13:42 mrpeters Good deal.  I want  to be able to do this in the most cost effective way for the customer, and showing them how they can do it themselves saves them lots :)
13:44 mrpeters Vandelay will still try to find "matching" records with the fingerprinting tools and choose the highest scoring record, is that correct?
13:45 Dyrcona If you use a match/merge profile, yeah.
13:46 mrpeters does Evergreen come pre-loaded with any?
13:47 Dyrcona I think so, yeah. I'd need to look to tell you what it does.
13:47 mrpeters no no that is OK i can check
13:48 mrpeters akilsdonk slides from EG14 are very solid on this
13:48 berick EG comes with 2 default merge profiles.  one for full overlay and one for match-only merge (no action is taken)
13:48 berick that's not the same as match sets, though, I don't think there are any default match sets
13:49 mrpeters Ah thanks bill that is good to know.  I was just reading about the merge/overlay profiles
13:49 berick confirmed, no default match sets.  so, out of the box, EG can only match on 901c (ID) values.
13:49 mrpeters http://evergreen-ils.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/eg14_Vandelay-presentation-EGCON-2014-2.pdf covers it well
13:50 berick to match on other MARC fields, you have to create new match sets
13:50 mrpeters matching on ISBN (020$a) for example
13:50 berick cool
13:51 mrpeters this is very cool, its been a while (probably since 2.0) since I have looked at Vandelay -- it has come a long way!
13:52 mrpeters considering that the incumbent records will be coming from OCLC i'm betting the settings in this document would do quite a nice job
14:51 jihpringle heads up to anyone else running 2.10 - https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1594937

14:59 Dyrcona We had chocolate cake at my "going away party."
15:00 Dyrcona For those who don't know, I'm going to C/W MARS in July.

15:52 bmills i'm putting in an index for the 505 $t and was wondering if anyone is using the search_normalize normalizer for added indexes for titles or just the naco_normalize version?
15:55 Dyrcona bmills: Just a sec'... I believe we have one of those configured.
15:55 kmlussier bmills: The default is search_normalize for most stock indexes. At least one MassLNC consortium, if not both, is in the process of moving to naco_normalize.
15:55 bmills i saw http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=scratchpad:brush_up_search so had my curiosity piqued a bit
15:56 kmlussier bmills: Yes, I started that page after the conference and have a few more things I want to add.
15:59 Dyrcona bmills: We have the search normalizer and normalize date range applied to 505$t.
16:00 bmills thanks Dyrcona!
16:00 bmills kmlussier++ Dyrcona++
16:00 Dyrcona Dunno why the latter....
16:00 kmlussier bmills: I have a full explanation of how each of these normalization functions handle apostrophes at http://masslnc.org/node/3163 if you want more info.
16:03 bmills kmlussier: thanks!

17:07 kmlussier Nice! I just sorted my 'harry potter' search by most popular, and the first result is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. And that is why we're so excited about the new activity metric development.
