kmlussier: I was cleaning out my desk and found the release notes for 1.6 that we handed out at ALA lo these many years ago... |

web staff client doesn't have a Refresh button on a patron account. This wasn't missed until we changed a patron profile and wanted to trigger a penalty recalculation. |
11:03 |
jeff |
thinking about it a little bit, rather than add the refresh button (might still ve a good idea later), it seems to be a good idea to trigger a refresh of system penalties when the user is saved (optionally only when changing profile?) |
11:03 |
jeff |
I suspect that there is some existing example of this around billing, so I'll probably start looking there first. |
11:14 |
berick |
+1 to server-side penalty recal when user profile changes |
11:16 |
Dyrcona |
Interesting: And I recall it being noted before, but OpenSRF installs mod-perl though it is Evergreen that actually needs it. |
11:18 |
jeff |
Dyrcona: yes, i believe there was a recent bug or pair of bugs to adjust that back to "as it should be". |
11:18 |
Dyrcona |
jeff: Yep. That's probably where I recall it being mentioned recently. |
11:18 |
jeff |
i know that there was discussion here, at a minimum. i think i went looking to see where the split had taken place. |
11:19 |

I just restarted Apache after installing OpenSRF and no errors. |

heh. weird quirk with payments. |
11:29 |
jeff |
click Bills tab, make a payment (all xacts are selected). after applying payment, no xacts are selected. |
11:29 |
jeff |
select all, make second payment, now all xacts remain selected. |
11:30 |
jeff |
i suspect that the preferred behavior would be for them to not be unselected after the first payment. |

how many records can Vandelay reasonably handle with the methods documented at http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.10/_import_records.html |
13:38 |
mrpeters |
50K records? have a library that sent records to OCLC for cleanup and can't decide if I should just try and use fingerprints and handle it like a new record load or if they should try and use Vandelay and save themselves some money |
13:40 |

mrpeters: I loaded the Gutenberg records on a smallish setup with Vandelay a few years ago. That's about 40K records. |
13:41 |
Dyrcona |
It will keep loading after the client times out. |
13:42 |
mrpeters |
Good deal. I want to be able to do this in the most cost effective way for the customer, and showing them how they can do it themselves saves them lots :) |
13:44 |
mrpeters |
Vandelay will still try to find "matching" records with the fingerprinting tools and choose the highest scoring record, is that correct? |
13:45 |
Dyrcona |
If you use a match/merge profile, yeah. |
13:46 |
mrpeters |
does Evergreen come pre-loaded with any? |
13:47 |
Dyrcona |
I think so, yeah. I'd need to look to tell you what it does. |
13:47 |
mrpeters |
no no that is OK i can check |
13:48 |
mrpeters |
akilsdonk slides from EG14 are very solid on this |
13:48 |
berick |
EG comes with 2 default merge profiles. one for full overlay and one for match-only merge (no action is taken) |
13:48 |
berick |
that's not the same as match sets, though, I don't think there are any default match sets |
13:49 |
mrpeters |
Ah thanks bill that is good to know. I was just reading about the merge/overlay profiles |
13:49 |
berick |
confirmed, no default match sets. so, out of the box, EG can only match on 901c (ID) values. |
13:49 |
mrpeters |
http://evergreen-ils.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/eg14_Vandelay-presentation-EGCON-2014-2.pdf covers it well |
13:50 |
berick |
to match on other MARC fields, you have to create new match sets |
13:50 |
mrpeters |
matching on ISBN (020$a) for example |
13:50 |
berick |
cool |
13:51 |

this is very cool, its been a while (probably since 2.0) since I have looked at Vandelay -- it has come a long way! |

considering that the incumbent records will be coming from OCLC i'm betting the settings in this document would do quite a nice job |

i'm putting in an index for the 505 $t and was wondering if anyone is using the search_normalize normalizer for added indexes for titles or just the naco_normalize version? |
15:55 |
Dyrcona |
bmills: Just a sec'... I believe we have one of those configured. |
15:55 |
kmlussier |
bmills: The default is search_normalize for most stock indexes. At least one MassLNC consortium, if not both, is in the process of moving to naco_normalize. |
