Hello everyone |
05:39 |
sitalk |
I am having a problem with disabling the apache2 document root on Debian Jessie. |
05:39 |
sitalk |
I have used the command a2dissite 000-default |
05:39 |
sitalk |
But I am still getting the "500 Internal server error". The apache2 error.log says: |
05:39 |
sitalk |
“AH00128: File does not exist: /var/www/html/eg/opac/home” |
05:40 |
sitalk |
Is there anything else that needs to be disabled? |
05:40 |
sitalk |
Thanks in advance. |

I have a placing holds permission mystery that pops up occasionally that I can't figure out. |
10:17 |
mmorgan |
It's related to new popular titles where some copies have age protection. |
10:18 |
mmorgan |
Staff members attempt to place a hold for a patron and get the message: Problem: All available copies are temporarily unavailable at your pickup library. Placing this hold could result in longer wait times. |
10:19 |
mmorgan |
Staff should be able to override this and place the hold anyway, but sometimes the don't get the option to override. |
10:20 |
mmorgan |
Anyone run across something similar? |
10:21 |
jeff |
In the case where staff don't get the override, is the error still the same? |
10:21 |
jeff |
Does it differ from hold to hold for the same staff user? |
10:22 |
jeff |
I know it's hard to get details on "occasional" issues like that... |
10:23 |
mmorgan |
jeff: the error is the same. The staff user can attempt to place a hold on another record with age protected items and will get the override. |
10:24 |
mmorgan |
The record I'm looking at is: http://evergreen.noblenet.org/eg/opac/record/3738456?locg=1 |
10:26 |
Dyrcona |
I don't think we've seen that one, at least not that I am aware of. |
10:26 |
mmorgan |
9 copies are age protected. 6 are checked out. 2 are on the holds shelf. 1 is In Process |
10:27 |
mmorgan |
2 copies are not hodable, 1 is available, 1 is checked out. |
10:27 |
mmorgan |
1 copy is holdable, not age protected and In Process. |
10:30 |
mmorgan |
When I've encountered this previously, the problem can go away if the circulation status or attributes of the copies change. It seems to be a certain combination of age protection, circulation status and holdability that causes the problem. |
10:30 |
mmorgan |
One more data point. The pickup location for the attempted hold does NOT own a copy. |
10:31 |
mmorgan |
That's my word problem for today ;-) |
10:32 |
|
sitalk joined #evergreen |
10:35 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: 3 questions: What happens when the pickup point does own a copy? What happens if the hold is placed by staff at a library that owns the copy, but for pickup at one that doesn't? |
10:35 |
Dyrcona |
What happens when a patron places the request through the OPAC? |
10:36 |

also wonders if any org unit settings are involved, but I don't think so. |
10:39 |
mmorgan |
Dyrcona: If the pickup point is a library that owns a copy, the hold is placed successfully. |
10:39 |
Dyrcona |
That's what I expected. |
10:42 |
mmorgan |
As a staff member at a library that owns a copy, if I attempt a hold with a pickup location that doesn't own the copy, the hold fails with the same error and no override. |
10:43 |
kmlussier |
mmorgan: I'm guessing the non-age-protected, but holdable copy is one that was recently added? |
10:44 |
kmlussier |
And the holds targeter hasn't picked up on it yet? |
10:44 |
kmlussier |
Oh, sorry, I didn't see the part where you said they weren't getting an opportunity to override. |
10:47 |
mmorgan |
The holdable, non-age-protected item is on order, with the status In Process, added in March. |
10:47 |

10:48 |
sitalk |
I am having a problem with disabling the apache2 document root on Debian Jessie. |
10:48 |
sitalk |
The default site has already been disabled by using the command “a2dissite 000-default” |
10:48 |
sitalk |
However when trying to access <ip-address>/eg/opac/home I am getting the "500 Internal server error". |
10:48 |
sitalk |
The apache2 error.log says: |
10:48 |
sitalk |
“AH00128: File does not exist: /var/www/html/eg/opac/home” |
10:48 |
sitalk |
Is there anything else that needs to be disabled? |
10:49 |
Dyrcona |
sitalk: It sounds like you have not completely installed OpenSRF and Evergreen. |
10:49 |
kmlussier |
mmorgan: Is there anything else that might block the hold beyond age protection? An issue with the patron's account? |
10:50 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: Do the staff have the permission to override at the consortium depth? It could be a depth issue. |
10:51 |
kmlussier |
I know this is hard to test in production, but I wonder if removing the two non-holdable copies (or making them holdable, but age-protected) would make the override appear. |
10:52 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: Our staff have the ITEM_AGE_PROTECTED.override at depth 0. |
10:52 |
Dyrcona |
Well, actually, all users have it at that depth. |
10:54 |
Dyrcona |
sitalk: Did you a2ensite eg.conf? |
10:54 |
sitalk |
Dyrcona: Yes. Also Evergreen was started successfully. |
10:55 |
mmorgan |
Dyrcona: Users have that at depth 0 here, too. |
10:56 |
Dyrcona |
sitalk: Did you install evergreen and opensrf to /openils? If so, you're apache config is wrong. |
10:56 |
sitalk |
Dyrcona: I do not mind reinstalling. However, are there any particular rules for reinstalling OpenSRF and Evergreen, or they can be confidently installed on the top of the current installation? |
10:56 |
Dyrcona |
sitalk: My advice is follow the READMEs exactly, and come here if you have any questions. |
10:57 |
mmorgan |
kmlussier: the patron isn't blocked. I'm suspicious of the non-holdable copies, too. |
10:58 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: I'm at a loss without really digging into the holds code, and don't have time for that at the moment. |
10:59 |
csharp |
mmorgan: your problem rings a bell for me, but I'm not remembering all the details |
10:59 |
Dyrcona |
sitalk: You should be able to install over the current installation. That's what we typically do for upgrades. |
10:59 |
mmorgan |

anyone else notice that the mobile responsive design on the default OPAC is bugged in the "items out" ? |
11:38 |
Bmagic |
couldnt find a bug report for it |
11:40 |
terran |
Bmagic: there are definitely still some OPAC screens that still need more responsive design work |
11:41 |
terran |
Bmagic: I tweaked a few things when doing our customizations for our last upgrade, but I was hoping to get back to it at some point (hasn't happened yet) |
11:42 |

It seems like the issue is the use of tables, but I might be wrong |

Bmagic: In style.css the responsive CSS at the bottom is acting like "Title / Author" is in one table cell, but it's really in two table cells |

11:58 |
Bmagic |
so, it's a minor fix then? |
11:59 |

quick fix branch incoming... |
11:59 |
terran |
The easiest fix would be to tweak the CSS there to refer to Title Author on two lines - I haven't done that particularly type of CSS, but it looks pretty easy |
11:59 |
terran |
particularly = particular :D |
12:01 |

Here's what I just did locally, seems fine now: http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=working/Evergreen.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/user/dbwells/fix_responsive_items_out |
12:02 |
dbwells |
Probably easier to do by hand than apply the patch :) |
12:03 |

I also didn't try to determine any history about if Title / Author used to be one column and are now separate (likely), or if the responsive OPAC was doing something fancier in earlier working versions. |

I think you're right about them being combined in one column in earlier versions - I think there were some other bugs around that initially that have already been fixed |
12:07 |

did you want to talk about the re-org? any git comments or questions? |

14:23 |
yboston |
I do have a git related comment for the group now that you are here |
14:24 |
sandbergja |
I had some git confusion, but I think I should just work on it with you over email, yboston |
14:24 |
yboston |
seems like the 2.10 HTML is not building properly |
14:24 |
yboston |
the cahnges sandbergja made to the attributions page are not showing up |
14:24 |
jihpringle |
do we have access to the build log for it? |
14:25 |
yboston |
only Robert |
14:25 |
yboston |
it is building fine on dev amd on the “docs-testing” server |
14:25 |
sandbergja |
I could ask Robert to see if we can troubleshoot the issue together |

I was very curious about that myself! |

http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.10/attributions.html - this is the main 2.10 version |
14:26 |

that explains my issue too, my additions are showing in dev |

14:26 |

I would expect the page to be blank if there was a build error |
14:27 |
remingtron |
are we sure it was backported to 2.10? |
14:27 |
yboston |
I can email Robert and icnlude you all to be on the same page |
14:27 |
jihpringle |
I don't know how it works for these docs, but with ours if it runs into a problem it just keeps the last version that worked |
14:27 |
yboston |
yes, the commits are there, unless a newer commit somhow undud the changes. then againt he testing server grabbed it correctly |
14:28 |
remingtron |
yboston: you are right, git.evergreen-ils.org shows the updated file |
14:28 |

here's the 2.10 version: http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=blob;f=docs/attributions.txt;h=3e6c629f3d64a43b53be4ba1ac0aa110bd9d67c2;hb=rel_2_10 |

14:30 |

14:30 |

I appreciate that! |
14:30 |
yboston |
also usually when there is a problem it catch it when the PDF version does not get built |
14:30 |
yboston |
but this time it is getting built |
14:31 |
yboston |
I just checked the PDFs, and they are behaving like the HTML version |
14:32 |
yboston |
dev has the change, but not 2.10 |
14:32 |

I will set an action item |

14:41 |
jihpringle |
I really like the idea of getting the docs integrated into the client (whether current, web or both) |
14:42 |
yboston |
I suggest that we come up with a very short proposal for the list and for robert of how we would add teh stika videos |
14:43 |
yboston |
just a short write up which URL would be used and what label. |
14:43 |
yboston |
are we thinking of linking tot he sitka channel or point to soemspecific videos? |

any volunteer(s)? |

specific videos on related docs chapters, if possible |
14:44 |
jihpringle |
in our own docs we're adding links to specific videos to the relevant areas of the doc |
14:44 |
yboston |
sounds like I have to look at the SITKA docs |
14:44 |
remingtron |
jihpringle: do you have an example docs page to share? |
14:44 |

with a video link? |

we might need to keep track of which verison of EG the videos apply to |
14:47 |
yboston |
though I don’t think that is a huge deal |
14:47 |
jihpringle |
I'm currently putting together a spreadsheet to track that :) |
14:48 |
jihpringle |
I'm working on figuring out which ones we made in 2.8 will still be correct for 2.10 (any videos that show functionality that wasn't changed in 2.10 we're adding to our 2.10 docs) |
14:49 |
yboston |
Do you mention the version targetted int he videos? I would suggest goign forward to put a small not in the video desctipion with the version number |
14:49 |

(easier said than done) |
14:49 |
jihpringle |
some of them have that in the video or the description |

I wonder how the links would behave in the PDF and epub version. I hoep they work, but I would still want to proceed if they don't |

Hello, I have a bit of an issue I'm hoping to get some direction on. |
15:14 |
cfarley |
I'm attempting to install evergreen on RHEL 7 and having a bit of an issue starting opensrf |
15:14 |
cfarley |
Can't exec "opensrf_router": Permission denied at /openils/bin/osrf_control line 293. |

15:15 |
* tsbere |
used to be a fan of RHEL....then he started trying to use things that weren't 5+ years old >_> |
15:16 |
Dyrcona |
cfarley: First make sure that everything in /openils/bin is executable. |
15:16 |
Dyrcona |
cfarley: If they are, disable selinux. |
15:17 |
Dyrcona |
cfarley: If that fails, give up and switch to Debian. |
15:17 |
cfarley |
lol, I set se linux to permissive already |
15:18 |
Dyrcona |
Truth is no one in here uses RHEL, closest you'll get is some infrequent visitors who use Fedora. |
15:18 |
cfarley |
Fair enough. |

So I have an unrelated question as well. Once I get this working...likely in ubuntu... |
15:21 |
cfarley |
I will want to setup a single location for our "library". Where is the best level to set that up in the heirarchy? |
15:21 |
Dyrcona |
cfarley: I'd recommend setting up a new system and branch under a consortium. |
15:22 |
tsbere |
I dunno, very little expects actual depth levels these days, so a single top level org unit would probably work too. |
15:22 |
Dyrcona |
You can blow the defaults away in the database and put in anything you like, but it will work best with a consortium, system, and branch. |
15:23 |
cfarley |
OK, I know I had issues in the past with reporting not working and I think it was because I screwed something up when I originally set it up. |
15:24 |
cfarley |
It also messed with permissions. |
15:24 |
Dyrcona |
As tsbere said, some of those issues have been fixed. |
15:25 |
cfarley |
Ok, great! |
15:25 |
cfarley |
Thank you both for the help. I'll bang my head against RHEL for a bit longer before I give up. |
15:26 |
Dyrcona |
I know some folks got it to work on CentOS a while ago, but after much pain. |
15:26 |
Dyrcona |
I even heard of someone, *cough* jlitrell *cough* who got Evergreen working on gentoo. |
15:27 |
* Dyrcona |
uses Ubuntu. |
15:27 |

:-D |
15:28 |
jlitrell |
Not sure I'd recommend it unless you're a masochist like I am. |
15:28 |

:) |
15:30 |
jlitrell |
bsd would be more interesting, I think. Who was doing that, berick? |
15:32 |
cfarley |
so looks like I had just messed up my $PATH definition. |
15:34 |
cfarley |
On to attempt the actual evergreen install :) |
15:35 |
Dyrcona |
cfarley: Cool. I didn't think of that. |
15:36 |
Dyrcona |
jlitrell: Yeah, berick started it and I worked on it some. There is an old branch in the working repo. |
15:39 |
Bmagic |
nice! gentoo! |
15:39 |
Dyrcona |
Getting Evergreen to work on FreeBSD should make it easier to get it working on other linux distros besides those based on Debian. |
15:41 |
jlitrell |
I'll throw some beers at Theo to help. :) |
15:42 |
Dyrcona |
Theo would be OpenBSD, and I use that, too, but mostly for network gear. |
15:43 |
jlitrell |
obsd is bestbsd |
15:44 |
Dyrcona |
Well, depends on what you're doing, really, but yeah, I like it. |
15:44 |
Dyrcona |
I find the documentation to be excellent and the configuration to be dead simple. |
15:44 |
Dyrcona |
FreeBSD has excellent documentation, too. |
15:45 |
Dyrcona |
Don't tell anyone, but for certain loads and types of work, FreeBSD is faster than Linux. |
15:45 |
jlitrell |
Yeah, somehow I always wind up checking those man pages instead of the Linux ones. |
15:45 |
jlitrell |
Oh, desktop-wise, I always found it noticeably faster. |
