09:08 kmlussier Web client. question. We've noticed that some interfaces that previously had a print button no longer have one. Is it because the expectation is the user will print with the standard browser print button?
09:09 ericar joined #evergreen
09:10 tsbere maybe it was felt some of the interfaces never really needed one? :P
09:10 RoganH joined #evergreen
09:10 kmlussier ummm...these are interefaces that do need to be printed.
09:11 tsbere kmlussier: I was joking. Hence the ":P" on the end. Beyond that, if you don't list the interfaces in question I doubt anyone can give you a solid answer anyway.
09:12 * kmlussier is still verifying.
09:12 kmlussier But the holds shelf is one.
09:13 tsbere hold shelf, not the pull list?
09:13 kmlussier The other one that was reported to me does indeed have a print button. I think I misunderstood the report.
09:13 kmlussier Holds shelf. Some people print out the clearable holds so that they know what to pull from the holds shelf.
09:14 tsbere Bah. Get a laptop, slap a barcode scanner on it, and you can even run them through checkin while you pull them! :P
09:18 * kmlussier tries not to dictate a library's workflow, but just tries to give them the tools they need to perform their jobs in a variety of ways.
09:18 mmorgan kmlussier++
09:19 * mmorgan thinks that the lack of a print button where there previously was one would have a big impact on workflow

09:50 RoganH Besides, I had to buy decaf coffee this weekend for the hack-a-way.  I honestly can't say I've ever bought it before in my life.

09:51 kmlussier Developers drink decaf? Who knew?
09:52 bradl pretty soon ya'll have dbs complaining about Starbucks.
09:53 kmlussier @hate Starbucks
09:53 pinesol_green kmlussier: The operation succeeded.  kmlussier hates Starbucks.
09:53 graced hey berick: since you're around... in your crazy mad design of the circulation re-write did you intend to keep "print" buttons?   Or replace them with a standard print function from the browser menu?  Or something else?
09:53 * mmorgan thinks they slip an empty cup that says decaf over the real stuff
09:54 berick graced: can you be more specific?  I added quite a few print buttons.
09:54 berick and some print actions in the grid actions drop-downs
09:54 bradl berick: you forgot the <flash> tag
09:55 berick graced: to answer your question, though, no i was not expecting anyone to have to use the browser print action
09:55 kmlussier berick: We were talking earlier about holds shelf screen. I wasn't sure if the print button was missing or if it was replaced by browser print.
09:55 graced berick: that's really the answer I was looking for  :)
09:55 kmlussier berick++ #Thanks!
09:56 berick bah, i just didn't add it
09:57 RoganH bradl: if we're putting in <flash> we also need starry backgrounds http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--FFiPLKZm--/c_fit,fl_progressive,q_80,w_636/18edh210775atpng.jpg
09:57 dbs People, please: <blink>
09:58 RoganH dbs: I stand corrected :)
09:58 bradl oh yeah, blink. that's right.
09:59 bradl this is why I'm not allowed to make websites
10:01 berick kmlussier: graced: for something like the holds shelf.. would you expect there to be a print template or would you expect it to print the grid as currently displayed?
10:02 berick if it's the latter, would the CSV print work
10:02 berick or do we need another pretty-grid print template thingy?
10:03 * kmlussier didn't know of the existence of pretty-grid print template thingies until today.
10:03 berick (note: csv printing is broken until the latest master patches are applied to webby).
10:03 berick kmlussier: it doesn't exist
10:03 berick should we create it, i guess, is my question
10:03 berick (purely theoretical)
10:03 * kmlussier usually defers to people like mmorgan for questions like this.
10:05 mmorgan In my experience, when users print a grid, they usually like it to print as it's displayed on the screen
10:05 kmlussier Right now, we use a receipt template for that interface, but I feel like it would be better to print the grid as currently displayed.
10:06 mmorgan the column picker gives the flexibility to change the display depending on what the user is doing at the moment, it would be nice if printing was as flexible
10:07 berick makes sense
10:08 berick should be possible w/ print CSS
10:14 collum Oh, some google humor.  Do a search on <blink>.

11:00 kmlussier tspindler: I don't see anything. I'm trying to recall when the feature arrived. It may have been before ESI was doing docs for all of its dev projects.
11:02 tspindler there is this discussion I found http://list.georgialibraries.org/pipermail/open-ils-general/2012-May/006943.html
11:02 * dbs seems to recall bshum or Dyrcona or both running batch check-ins for a set of barcodes. misremembering?
11:03 tspindler kmlussier:  I think it is an older function that was never documented
11:03 eeevil tspindler: the side-by-side edit thing, you mean?
11:03 snigdha26 joined #evergreen
11:04 eeevil if so, IIRC, that was basically original functionality, though it's been changed/updated through the ages
11:04 tspindler eeevil: not sure what you main, i'm looking at marc batch edit for a bucket of marc records
11:04 Dyrcona dbs: I've done all kinds of batch stuff.
11:04 tspindler that is what you mean (not main)
11:05 eeevil tspindler: I mean where you can see multiple marc editors. as opposed to the "batch edit" where you build a template

11:23 tspindler eevil: thanks I understand now
11:24 dbs Dyrcona: cool. For some reason I thought that would be the kind of use case that would be documented somewhere, but I failed to find anything in a simple google search
11:26 dbs meh, search at http://evergreen-ils.org/ isn't responding. Just me?
11:27 jcamins dbs: isn't that a Google search, and didn't you say that Google isn't routable for you?
11:28 kmlussier dbs: Doesn't seem to be responding for me either.
11:29 dbs jcamins: Yes, and Yes, but then I tunnelled through my server in Atlanta and #2 was resolved
11:30 dbs kmlussier++ # thanks for trying and confirming :)
11:30 dbs search at http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/ works fine though
11:31 dbs too bad that search is now limited to just the docs
11:34 eeevil tspindler: for my own understanding, which were you looking for docs on?
11:44 tspindler eeevil: marc "batch edit"
11:45 tspindler eeevil: part of it is just to understand what is possible and what is not with the interface
11:46 eeevil gotcha, thanks
11:46 kmlussier tspindler: In addition to the thread you linked to, there's also an earlier thread here: http://georgialibraries.markmail.org/thread/je6owjgy4vdu5ueh
11:46 kmlussier tspindler: It's not documentation, but maybe it's helpful?
11:48 tspindler kmlussier: yes it is and i think i'm clear on what "add" and "delete" do but ultimately, i'm wondering what replace does
11:49 tspindler for instance can it be used to replace a portion of a field's contents like "c-ebr" with "ebr" to get rid of the "c-" .  I know how to do this with SQL but I was wondering what is possible with the client interface.

14:43 yboston Can someone help me find the intructions for installing a version of EG that include the "staff browser client"?
14:43 yboston I have been looking for a while without any luck. I looked in the wiki, and I thought bshum said there was a README somewhere, but I have not found it
14:43 collum tspindler: try something like this.  http://bit.ly/1B3RVtP
14:44 collum BTW the two poeple in our TS department that use this feature always export the records beforehand.  Just in case.
14:44 kmlussier yboston: Last I talked to bshum, he was still working on improving the README instructions.
14:45 kmlussier yboston: He mentioned in the release notes that some instructions can be found in the code at Open-ILS/web/js/ui/default/staff/README.install.

14:45 yboston the ".install" part threw my search off
14:49 collum tspindler: the subfield is suppose to be a not 1.  Let me repost.
14:54 tspindler collum: thanks but something still isn't correct, I tried with that
14:55 collum Interesting.  I just tested and it worked for me.  Seems to work better if you don't have anything in the subfields option.
14:55 tspindler bit.ly/1ogXVtq
14:56 tspindler collum: I will try that
14:56 collum http://bit.ly/1rmo0fp
14:57 kmlussier Maybe because you put the subfield in the MARC data field, you don't need to add it in the field above?
14:59 tspindler collum: still not working, I'm testing this on the MassLNC community test server
15:01 collum tspindler: are you getting an error screen, or is it just popping back to the batch edit screen?
15:02 collum If it pops back to the edit screen, make sure that the proper bucket is still selected.
15:02 tspindler I get to the screen and it is 1 success, 0 failures but the record  is not updated.  See  http://mlnc4.mvlcstaff.org/eg/opac/record/239
15:03 * kmlussier suspects it's a cache problem
15:03 kmlussier tspindler: I see writer
15:04 kmlussier tspindler: Oh wait. You were trying to replace writer with author. Just ignore my ramblings.
15:04 collum Yep.  My regexp is just looking for writer only.  You can change it from ^writer$ to writer, but it will probably overwrite the entire 505.
15:05 tspindler http://screencast.com/t/HlvaFuQljt
15:06 tspindler collum: yep, without the ^ and $ it replaced the entire field with author.
15:08 collum You can change the MARC data to the entire field 505 \\$aJ.R.R Tolkien ...., but that sort of defeats the batch purpose.
15:08 tspindler collum:  yeah, i have been just trying to figure out the correct way to used the regex to get a portion of the field
15:09 tspindler collum: it worked for you on master?
15:10 collum On a test machine of mine, 2.2.0, but I changed the entire 505, not a portion of it.
15:10 tspindler collum: I am testing this on master, i can update a whole field fine
15:11 collum Yep.  That's what I did, as well.
15:12 collum My catalogers mainly use this for author entries.  When a death date has to be added.
15:12 tspindler we haven't used it much so I'm just exploring what can be done instead of going on the database side and doing db updates with sql

20:32 jeff for example -- a missing character on or around the hosts definition in the config file
20:33 jeff also -- does your hostname vanya-Aspire-5830TG" change from time to time? now might be the time to override it for ejabberd purposes if it is expected to change.
20:36 vanya jeff: Thank you! I'll try it out.
20:39 vanya I didn't make any changes to the ejabberd.cfg file. Although, my university network uses a proxy- could that be a problem?
20:44 Agustin67 joined #evergreen
20:44 jeff the university's proxy shouldn't be a problem. the installation steps walk you through setting things up in a way that works even if your computer is not connected to a network at all.
20:45 jeff the university proxy may get in the way when you are installing pre-requisites using Makefile.install, but hopefully not.
20:47 jeff anyway, part of the installation process does instruct you to make changes to the ejabberd.cfg file. do you have a line in /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg that looks like this?  197 {hosts, ["localhost", "private.localhost", "public.localhost"]}.

20:53 vanya I'll try that out

21:02 vanya okay. I'll try that
21:08 vanya jeff: still no luck.

21:13 jeff vanya: if you can copy your entire ejabberd.cfg file to a pastebin site like https://gist.github.com/ and share the link here, i'll see if i can see anything else amiss...

21:22 vanya do you think i have too many used ports, maybe?
21:25 jeff vanya: consider removing or commenting out this line also: https://gist.github.com/dragonfly9517/5a912c87d41ce1b01d36#file-ejabered-cfg-L61
21:25 jeff vanya: you have "hosts" declarations on line 61 and line 95 in that file.
21:28 vanya I had tried that earlier.
21:28 vanya It doesn't help
21:28 vanya :/

21:38 jeff minor change, but might be worth trying -- alternately, you could use dpkg-reconfigure ejabberd to set the hostnames. https://gist.github.com/jeff/097e7a9e75c27107622b/revisions
21:38 jeff (that shouldn't required, in my experience -- as long as you know not to try and reconfigure with dpkg-reconfigure after manually editing)
