06:59 mika__ hello?
07:00 mika__ I have problem when installing evergreen
07:01 mika__ 2.5.4 after this command "PATH=/openils/bin:$PATH ./configure --prefix=/openils --sysconfdir=/openils/conf"
07:02 mika__ and type the word "make" the error is "/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ldbdpgsql collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status"
07:02 mika__ I've tried everything hope someone is awake.. :(

07:13 mika__ noone here yet?
07:19 dbs mika__: what linux distribution?
07:20 mika__ 14.04
07:21 dbs hmm. You ran the Makefile.install for Evergreen?
07:21 dbs You have to install the prereqs when you install OpenSRF, and then again once you start on Evergreen
07:22 dbs that error suggests that the package that supplies libdbd-pgsql wasn't installed
07:22 mika__ I don't encounter a problem when installing opensrf only in evergreen
07:23 dbs However... I'm not 100% sure that 14.04 was tested with Evergreen 2.5, because we released 2.5 back in the fall and 14.04 only became stable last month
07:23 mika__ what should I do?
07:23 dbs I know we tested with Evergreen 2.6
07:23 mika__ so should i remove the 2.5.4?
07:24 dbs What Makefile.install target did you use for Evergreen 2.5?
07:24 mika__ I M just following the tutorial in there web.. i think Path: /openils/Bin
07:24 mika__ PATH=/openils/bin:$PATH ./configure --prefix=/openils --sysconfdir=/openils/conf
07:25 mika__ then after that the word "make"
07:25 mika__ is 2.6 is stable for 14,04 sir?
07:26 mika__ 14.04
07:26 mika__ then the error comes after i enter make
07:26 dbs http://evergreen-ils.org/documentation/install/README_2_5.html#_installing_prerequisites
07:27 dbs Are those the instructions you're using?
07:27 mika__ yes
07:28 dbs So what did you use for <osname> in step 4 there?
07:28 mika__ ubuntu-precise
07:30 dbs Yeah. I suspect you would be better off reinstalling with Evergreen 2.6 then, as that has a target for 14.04
07:30 jboyer-laptaupe joined #evergreen
07:30 mika__ is the opensrf 2.2.2 is good for 14.04?
07:30 dbs Looks like we need to update http://evergreen-ils.org/documentation/install/README_2_6.html#_installing_prerequisites though, it still mentions rc1
07:31 dbs http://evergreen-ils.org/egdownloads/ says you'll need 2.3.0
07:32 dbs Sorry about that mika__ :/
07:32 * dbs needs to run and get the kids ready for school
07:33 dbs mika__: if this is a virtual machine you would probably be best off if you were able to go back to a clean 14.04 install
07:33 dbs installing the precise prereqs might have added more compiled-from-source stuff that will just be a headache down the road
07:34 * dbs really goes to get kids ready
07:34 dbs @monologue
07:34 pinesol_green dbs: Your current monologue is at least 8 lines long.
07:34 mika__ I see... I will try 2.6 now
07:37 dbs mika__: you might want to wait until someone who actually uses Ubuntu is in the IRC channel
07:37 dbs I just took a look at an updated checkout from master and there's no mention of 14.04 support
07:37 mika__ wow that's sad
07:37 dbs which makes me think I'm a bit crazy, because I know people in here were talking about it
07:37 mika__ should i go back to 12.04?
07:38 dbs mika__: If you can wait another half hour there will be some ubuntu people in channel
07:38 mika__ so which is best to install evergreen?
07:39 dbs mika__: I'm an outlier, I develop on Fedora but I'm just about the only one
07:39 dbs Most people here use Ubuntu, some use Debian
07:40 mika__ T_T to bad for me...
07:40 dbs Okay, really have to go :)
07:40 dbs back in an hour or so
07:41 mika__ I am only 17 and I accidentally deleted my brother's file in his laptop now I need to fix I know some command in linux but not totally broad.

08:34 csharp mika__: 14.04 support is still under development - several things changed
08:34 csharp mika__: if you need a server today, I would recommend either 12.04 or Debian stable
08:34 mika__ so i need to quit in 14.04 now
08:35 csharp mika__: well, the script to automatically configure dependencies is not done yet
08:35 mika__ is 2.6.0 for is good for 12.04 ubuntu?
08:36 csharp so if you're new to this, yeah, you'll want to be on a version with current support
08:36 csharp mika__: should be fine
08:36 mika__ I will try in 12.04
08:36 * csharp needs to get with bshum this week on finishing that up
08:41 mika__ I am new in evergreen but during the installation of evergreen 2.5.4 I always ended in error after I type make
08:44 dbs csharp: thanks! I was surprised that we don't actually mention in the README what the possible Makefile.install targets are
08:44 mika__ uhmmm.... Help?
08:47 mmorgan joined #evergreen
08:48 Shae joined #evergreen
08:54 csharp dbs: yeah, that would be handy info ;-)
08:56 jeff mika__: if you're running into an error, you might want to share the error message any any other details at paste.evergreen-ils.org, or even consider providing details and asking for assistance on the mailing list, if you haven't yet.
08:57 jeff and (thinking more generally) one of these days we should decide which list is best to recommend for installation questions. maybe there's a recommendation and i'm just not on the same page.
09:01 mika__ I don;t know which part I am wrong installing evergreen.
09:02 mika__ in the video of ils.utk it shows it run succesfully after "./configure --prefix=/openils --sysconfdir=/openils/conf" without the "PATH=/openils/bin:$PATH"
09:02 mika__ I am a little bit confuse now.
09:03 kmlussier jeff: I personally prefer that most questions (installation and others) go to the general list. But that's just me.
09:05 jeff mika__: if you're following the videos here, they are quite old: http://opensource-ils.cci.utk.edu/content/evergreen-screencasts
09:05 csharp mika__: are you still on 14.04? or is this on 12.04 as suggested?
09:05 mika__ 12.04
09:05 jeff mika__: they appear to have been created as part of a grant, and it is unclear to me if there are plans to update or maintain them further.
09:06 csharp can you paste the full error at http://paste.evergreen-ils.org?
09:06 jeff mika__: that said, if you follow the directions in the README for Evergreen and OpenSRF, you should be able to get a working system without too much trouble.
09:06 mika__ I am following the instruction here "http://evergreen-ils.org/documentation/install/README_2_5.html#_installing_prerequisites"
09:08 mika__ after I enter the "PATH=/openils/bin:$PATH ./configure --prefix=/openils --sysconfdir=/openils/conf" and "MAKE" the error goes...
09:08 mika__ should I get wrong in CPAN mirror? It ask me yes. so I said all yes..
09:09 mika__ sorry bad english..
09:23 mika__ cp: cannot stat cp 'Open-ILS/examples/apache/eg_startup' No such file or directory
09:23 mika__ uhm help?
09:26 jeff mika__: when you run the commands in the section titled "7. Configure the Apache Web server
09:28 jeff ", you will need to be running as the "root" user, and you will need to be in the directory that was created when you extracted the Evergreen source -- that directory is probably called "Evergreen-ILS-2.5.4"
09:29 mika__ ohh
09:29 mika__ I just get that using evergreen
09:30 mika__ I mean I am in the folder of evergreen... is that correct?
09:31 mika__ root@ubuntu: /home/mikah_mika/Evergreen-ILS-2.5.4
09:31 dluch joined #evergreen
09:32 mika__ I am in the folder of evergreen when I download and copy the dojo
09:32 mika__ is that a wrong?
09:33 jeff if you're in that folder /home/mikah_mika/Evergreen-ILS-2.5.4 when you run the commands from section "7. Configure the Apache Web server" of this document, http://evergreen-ils.org/documentation/install/README_2_5.html#_installing_prerequisites then you should have better luck.

10:16 Guest23408 http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/15
10:18 Guest23408 anyone?
10:18 Guest23408 please?
10:20 jeff Guest23408: your open-ils.cstore service is no longer connected to the Jabber / XMPP server, or it simply isn't running at all.
10:20 Guest23408 so i need to go back in jabber to run it again>
10:21 jeff Guest23408: in very general terms, I would suggest stopping apache, stopping all OpenSRF services, then starting OpenSRF services and waiting for them to finish starting (watch CPU usage and/or logs), then start Apache again.
10:21 jeff You could optionally test with srfsh in between starting OpenSRF services and starting Apache.
10:22 jeff But keep an eye on logs to see if you have a problem that isn't fixed by a simple restart -- and I would recommend looking back in the logs to see what happened in the first place.
10:22 jeff Guest23408: good luck!

10:28 ellie-bas hello friends! i am having trouble to make Pull List for Hold Requests work
10:29 ellie-bas when i call this function from staff client, it shows empty list
10:30 ellie-bas but i know some patrons have placed holds succesfully
10:30 ellie-bas the item which had a hold placed, and also my circ account and my workstation are all registered to the same branch

10:35 miguel___1 Jeff its me again check this out. http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/16
10:35 miguel___1 I already restart all the system but still the same
10:37 miguel___1 this is when I type autogen.sh -u
10:37 jeff miguel___1: i'd recommend looking at the logs in /openils/var/log (or wherever you've configured them to be) to see why open-ils.cstore doesn't seem to be connected.
10:37 RoganH left #evergreen
10:38 jeff ellie-bas: when you look at the hold in the patron's account, is there a value in the "current copy" field?
10:39 ellie-bas jeff: thanks for your reply. right now there are two entries, one of them having a barcode there and the other item says 'no copy'
10:40 ellie-bas jeff: this is probably because one of the holds was placed from opac, while the other was placed from staff client and probably there is a difference due to title / volume / copy level holds
10:42 jboyer-laptaupe joined #evergreen
10:45 ellie-bas jeff: the status of both entries in patron's account say: Waiting for copy
10:51 jeff ellie-bas: is this a test system? also, are the copies in question in either Available or Reshelving statuses, or are they in some other status?
10:55 ellie-bas jeff: yes, this is a test system, and everything works fine on other test branch. but on particular test branch the pull list does not seem to work.
10:55 ellie-bas jeff: yes, the titles are available and they are not out.
10:56 jeff ellie-bas: ah! another good clue. is the branch in question configured with hours of operation that show it as being open today/now?

10:57 jeff mika__: 5222 is the default Jabber/XMPP client port, 5432 is the default PostgreSQL port.

11:08 miguel___1 anyone knows?
11:09 jeff miguel___1: i'm unable to spend more time on this at the moment, so unless someone else jumps in with suggestions i'd try some of the things in the troubleshooting document, and if that does not help try an email to the mailing list with some more detail
11:09 jeff ~troubleshooting
11:09 jeff ~lists
11:09 pinesol_green information on the Evergreen project's mailing lists is available here: http://www.evergreen-ils.org/listserv.php
11:09 jeff the troubleshooting document in question is here: http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=troubleshooting:checking_for_errors
11:10 jeff ellie-bas: there's a hold targeter process which on a production system is scheduled to run automatically. it would be worth running it by hand on the server or scheduling it to run -- that may be all you need to do here.
11:11 jeff ellie-bas: holds typically initiate a run of the hold targeter when they are placed, but i don't recall if that is enough to get it to appear on your pull lists.
11:11 tsbere jeff: It should be.
11:12 ellie-bas jeff: thanks, I will check that. The strange thing is that if it is already working on the same system for another branch, does it not mean that hold targeter should be working already?
11:13 tsbere ellie-bas: A question: Are there available copies with a circ library of the branch you are running the pull list for on the titles the holds were placed on?
11:13 jeff ellie-bas: holds can be complex, and you might find that there's another issue after checking on the holds targeter.
11:17 ellie-bas jeff: yes, there are available copies, an all the copies are on the same branch, i.e. circ library and owning library is the same
11:17 tsbere ellie-bas: But is the circ/owning library the library you are running the pull list at?
11:19 miguel___1 jeff >>>http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/17
11:20 miguel___1 When I test srfsh I get 4....
11:20 jeff miguel___1: if you could paste the contents of your ejabberd.cfg file at paste.evergreen-ils.org, i suspect you may need to adjust some settings. if you think you've already adjusted them correctly, you may need to completely stop and start ejabberd for them to take effect.
11:21 miguel___1 I already did tat
11:27 ellie-bas jeff: yes, circ/owning library is the library that my workstation is registered to and also my car/circ patron account has a home library of the same branch
11:27 tsbere ellie-bas: Note that jeff isn't the only one talking to you at this point. ;)
11:28 * tsbere is, however, running out of immediate ideas

12:05 remingtron yboston: I guess we should wait on that
12:06 yboston remingtron: for the record, I think we should consider having you as an admin becuase of the DIG work you are doing at some ppoint in the future
12:06 remingtron yboston: I'm probably setup correctly to watch the repo
12:07 yboston yboston: I guess I should cordinate with you to try to see if I can process your pull request, if it has not be done yet
12:07 remingtron yboston: can you think of specific abilities I would need? I can probably respond to github pull requests via plain old git.
12:08 remingtron and we might want to avoid the magic of GitHub pull request processing anyway. we should ask other devs about that.
12:08 yboston remingtron: to be clear, are you asking if you can handle your own pull request by using just plain git?
12:08 yboston remingtron: yes, we shoudl defer to the devs on decidign if we ever want to pull a github request through github
12:09 remingtron I bet I could handle mine or anyone else's, but you are welcome to work on my pull request if you want.
12:09 yboston try it out first on your own, hten see if it works, but we should also ask what the devs would prefer us to do with Github pull reuqetsts
12:14 jeff previously when this was discussed, the idea was to use github for someone initiating a pull request, but to use standard evergreen methods for committing those changes to the evergreen git repository. the github repository would be treated as if it were read-only, and would be overwritten (via existing automated scripts) by the repo on git.evergreen-ils.org
12:15 jeff see previous conversations here http://irc.evergreen-ils.org/evergreen/2014-03-19#i_77452 and here http://irc.evergreen-ils.org/evergreen/2014-03-20#i_77570
12:22 miguel___1 jeff if I will ignore the error in autogen,sh what will be happen?
12:25 jeff miguel___1: the error in question indicates that your open-ils.cstore process isn't connected. your Evergreen installation is rather unusable without open-ils.cstore.
12:26 jeff miguel___1: the error logs point to a setting in ejabberd.cfg being incorrect. my next recommendation would be to paste the contents of your ejabberd.cfg file somewhere like paste.evergreen-ils.org
12:26 jeff miguel___1: after you've pasted the contents of that file, ask here if someone could review it -- or ask on the mailing list if nobody's around here when you get to that point.

16:40 yboston jeff: I am copying what was written for the release ntoes for "stripe" and placing the content in the "library settings editor" section

16:42 jeff stripe depends on the value of the org unit setting opac.processor.stripe.enabled for the user's home ou.
16:44 jeff and credit.payments.allow
16:44 jeff also, credit.default.processor must be Stripe and credit.processor.stripe.pubkey and credit.processor.stripe.secretkey must have values
16:45 yboston yes, that is what I got form http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.6/_opac_2.html#_accepting_payments_with_stripe
16:46 jeff this is from commit a153ad5 and reading code.
16:46 pinesol_green [evergreen|Lebbeous Fogle-Weekley] DB upgrade script for Stripe payments; seed data; minor template fixes - <http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=commit;h=a153ad5>
16:47 jeff yboston: so to answer your original question: Yes, the bit in the docs is true: "Allow Credit Card Payments" (should be true)
16:50 * jeff looks sideways at open-ils.circ.credit.payable_balance.retrieve and wonders what uses it
16:52 jboyer-laptaupe yboston: I should have set my desktop client to away, I'm just seeing your Q re: stripe. jeff has steered you true, and your original assumption about paypal and authorize.net also requiring "Allow Credit Card Payments" = true is also correct.
16:53 yboston jboyer-laptaupe: thanks
16:53 jboyer-laptaupe jeff: you're also right that Lebbeous and I didn't really make any attempt to deal with stripe in the client, so I'm assuming general unhappiness results.
16:53 jeff well, paypal and authorize.net don't require that setting to be true if you're not using them in the public patron interfaces... if you're only using them in the staff client, that org unit setting doesn't matter, right?
16:54 yboston For the record, at this time my simpelst goal is to copy the content from the release notes abotu stripe (while keeping the release notes part as is). I want to find a permanent home for the stripe section moving forward
16:54 jboyer-laptaupe Oh yeah, in case you want to enter a payment taken via CC terminal.
16:55 jeff jboyer-laptaupe: or enter payment in the staff client UI and process it on the backend with paypal or authorize.net
16:55 yboston I just wanted to know if I should add any basic warnings/tips about (global/local) settigns that should be set for Stripe to work
16:56 yboston long term, I hope to add info for Authorize.net and PayPal too
16:56 jeff long term, i hope to rip those out. :-)
16:56 yboston but not Stripe, or stripe too?
16:56 jeff (but that may not be reasonable -- i'm somewhat joking)
16:56 jboyer-laptaupe They're terrifying from a PCI standpoint. (unless you're a single-library system)
16:57 yboston Authorize.net and PayPal? (just curious)
16:57 jboyer-laptaupe yboston: stripe avoids all of the potential issues that the others bring with them.
16:57 yboston and I suspect it works fine for single libraries?
16:57 jeff stripe *purports* to avoid those issues.
16:59 jboyer-laptaupe yboston, yes. (According to MY non-lawyerly reading of the PCI rules) Authorize.net and PayPal, because the CC number is entered at a staff workstation, essentially pulls all of your member library's networks into the "Credit Card Network" or whatever they call it.
16:59 yboston good to know
17:02 yboston another question, to make sure I am understanding, it seems that you have to seet both org unit settings and setttings in the "library setting editor" to set up Stripe? or are the org unit settings and library settigns editor the same thing?
17:02 jeff two names for the same thing.
17:03 yboston you learn something new everyday
17:03 jeff in the staff client, Admin -> Library Settings Editor is where you edit Org Unit Settings
17:03 kmlussier yboston: For doc purposes, I encourage you to use Library Settings because that's the name that is used in the staff client.
17:03 kmlussier That's what I try to do.
17:05 yboston I think I am confused by "admin > server admin > organization unit types"
17:06 kmlussier yboston: Yeah, that's a different setting.
17:06 yboston I am now less confused, but what is  "organization unit types" typically used for ?
17:08 gsams If I'm not mistaken, that section would allow you to create new Org Levels.
17:08 * jeff nods
17:09 gsams for very convoluted consortia
17:09 kmlussier yboston: It's where you would have set up your Evergreen hierarchy back in the early days. Most people probably do it through the database.
17:09 jeff that is where you could change the default org unit types of Consortium, System, Branch, Bookmobile, etc.
17:09 jeff and adjust settings such as "can have users"
17:09 jeff or "can have volumes"
17:10 yboston thanks gsams , kmlussier , jeff
17:14 jeff tsbere: looking way back at commit be76579c5 for Checkout Fills Related Hold modifications (which introduced Checkout Fills Related Hold On Valid Copy Only (circ.checkout_fills_related_hold_exact_match_only)), do you recall if there was a specific use case in mind for the exact match option?

17:23 jeff has anyone here made the transition from "staff use one account for patron-y and staff-y things" to "staff have a staff account and a patron account, and the patron account is not used for staff operations"?

17:23 jeff i'm interested in pitfalls, or good methods for avoiding same.
17:24 hbrennan When our library moved to EG, we switched to a two-acct system
17:25 gsams We pretend to two-account here.  It hasn't worked very well for doing it for real
17:25 hbrennan But our patron acct still has staff privleges, though those are related to  checkouts only (longer circ time, etc)
17:25 jeff my current thoughts are to create a new account for each staff member in question, assigning it the correct permissions and such, then remove those permissions from their existing account (then it becomes their "patron" (only) account).
17:26 hbrennan I think you can clone a person's permissions, right?
17:26 jeff this means that their (now) patron account would still be associated with past actions in the database, but i think I'm okay with that.
17:26 hbrennan That seems relatively smooth
17:26 jeff I'd also want to copy things over like copy templates, but I can easily do that at the db layer.
17:26 gsams that does seem like a good approach to the process
17:27 hbrennan The only thing I don't like is that our staff accounts have a supposedly unique ID, so I have to look myself up by name to find my acct
17:27 hbrennan But I only do this to view my permissions, or occasionally check out a staff-only ref book
17:27 jeff If a staff member's current account has never performed actions as a patron, I'm tempted to make that the "staff only" account and then create a new account for them as a patron. Likewise if the staff member in question has never really used their account in Evergreen to do staffy things -- I'd leave that account as the "patron" account and the new account would be their "staff" account.
17:28 hbrennan That actually sounds even easier
17:28 hbrennan since the patron acct will start fresh as just tath
17:28 hbrennan *that
17:29 jeff But I suspect that most of the staff members we'll be doing this with (probably all, eventually) will have a long and storied history of both staff and patron actions.
17:29 jeff So in most cases we'll be creating a new account for the staff things, and turning their existing account into a "just a patron" account.
17:34 hbrennan I'd say do it as soon as you can, since it sounds like you'll eventually head that directly
17:34 hbrennan direction
17:34 hbrennan blah
17:36 jeff we've been doing it for new staff for a while now.
