What's the advantage of the SQLBuilder json-esque queries we have in Perl sometimes compared to putting the query in psql as a function? (This is like the 3rd time I've touched 'open-ils.search.biblio.record_hold_parts') |

@later tell smayo a database function is usually faster. The nice thing about a function is that you can call it from different code languages, so that you don't have to re-implement the same logic in different places. Like Angular, AngularJS, Perl, etc. |

When I was developing bug 2069645, it became clear that we needed the business logic in the database. Which simplified all of the interface code. I'm not sure that there is a rule about this, if that's what you're wanting to know. |

That was what I was wanting to know. I was considering moving 'open-ils.search.biblio.record_hold_parts' into the database since I had needed to grab the info in SQL at least once before, and working with the json thing in perl is kind of a pain |

I almost commented earlier that it's easier to modify the JSON thing in Perl than it is to modify a SQL statement. You can find many places where queries are built via Perl hashes. |

I sometimes think we do too much in the database, and then sometimes think there are things we do in Perl that would be more convenient in the database. ;) |
