09:28 sandbergja I took the liberty of adding a new tag in launchpad: release-process.  Once we've gathered several bugs under that tag, I think it would be very interesting if a funder could sponsor some development to improve the release process, to reduce some of those barriers to releasing.
09:31 Dyrcona sandbergja++
09:31 Dyrcona I've reported a couple of bugs that might be appropriate for that tag. I don't have time to dig them up right now.
09:33 pinesol News from commits: LP#2048907: remove .angular from release tarballs <https://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=commitdiff;h=a587c50be44177f1d947447ab23f5aee9c379e75>
09:43 kmlussier sandbergja++ indeed
09:43 kmlussier Also, TGIF all!

09:44 kmlussier pinesol seems to be favoring Equinox staff this morning.
09:44 pinesol kmlussier: NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!
09:44 Rogan tea is good

09:44 * pinesol grabs some Tiramisu for jonadab
09:45 kmlussier Rogan: It's like the bot knows what your caffeine preference is. Same for gmcharlt.
09:45 Rogan I philosophically disagree with favored statuses of people but if it gets me tea .... wow, that is an ethical issue
10:03 Dyrcona "All is quite on New Year's day." induces a flash back: "I roll to hit the Orc."
10:03 Dyrcona Bleh, "quiet" not "quite".
10:07 Dyrcona i should probably know this. Is there a cp command to just install the AngjularJS client?
10:09 Dyrcona Oh, right.... I forgot how ham-fisted webcore-install is. That's one of the things on my "to bug" list.
10:11 Dyrcona And, it's nearly impossible to run by itself.
10:11 * Dyrcona sighs.'
10:21 * Dyrcona opines that the update inventory from checkin feature was implemented poorly. Data is gathered in the backend, then sent to the AngularJS client to be updated via pcrud. It should have just been updated in the backend.
10:23 * Dyrcona has to bisect a bizarre bug that started with that feature after our latest update on Monday night. Nothing related to that feature was changed except the IDL, and if the IDL was busted, nothing related to alci or aws would work. You can update alci from Item Status and workstations are working fine with other interfaces.
10:23 Dyrcona I made a  quick patch to deflesh the workstation because the console showed a fleshed workstation in the failure, but it still fails to update or create....
10:24 Dyrcona NB: It did not happen with a stock release on the same hardware and same dependencies.
10:25 berick yeah pcrud will de-flesh for you during update
10:26 Dyrcona berick: It gets crazier because the backend sends just the workstation id to the AngularJS client, and the client appears to use what the back end sends it. I would suspect a change in a dependency except it works with a stock release on the same data.
10:27 Dyrcona No database errors either.
10:30 Dyrcona I've got 47 commits to bisect... Dunno if I want to go all the way back to start since it apparently worked last week.
10:32 Dyrcona I should test this on a more recent release with similar patches.
10:33 Dyrcona I have two available.
10:43 Dyrcona OK. it works on a more recent Evergreen release, but that one may not have all of the patches or may have one that's missing. I can't rule out that we dropped something.
10:49 Dyrcona Guess I'll bisect everything.
10:57 csharp_ does slimpac still exist in any form?
10:57 csharp_ (looking at autogen.sh and trying to see what could reasonably be removed from it)
11:01 Dyrcona csharp_: Try it and see.
11:01 csharp_ Dyrcona: it doesn't load for me
11:01 sandbergja joined #evergreen
11:01 csharp_ I was just wondering if someone out there was using that somehow - I'm of the opion that it should go completely away
11:01 csharp_ *opinion
11:02 csharp_ @decide onion or opinion
11:02 pinesol csharp_: That's a tough one...
11:02 Dyrcona I have a similar opinion.
11:02 Dyrcona Right now... never mind. :)

11:12 Dyrcona OK. It's good after the first bisect.
11:25 Dyrcona !?++
11:26 Dyrcona sandbergja++ for recommending disabling cache in the developer tools. (I don't pay enough attention to all of the options.)

11:48 Dyrcona Bingo! We have a winner! It was a backport of an IDL cleanup commit. Why that only broke this, I have no idea.
11:51 berick we should find a way to encode the IDL as a double-helix DNA-ish thing
11:54 Dyrcona Too compact. Hard drive vendors rely on the ubiquity of XML. :)

16:17 JonHGeorg Random comment. I have a library staff member who was troubleshooting SMS messages for StraightTalk, and found that switching those patrons to Verizon for SMS messages from Evergreen allows the messages to go through. This makes sense since Verizon purchased Straight Talk a while back, but I haven't seen any mention of that anywhere in the
16:17 JonHGeorg documentation or the IRC logs.
16:22 Dyrcona StraightTalk has not come up specifically before.
16:22 Dyrcona I also think that the days of using email to SMS gateways are numbered.
16:26 jeff can confirm.
16:27 JonHGeorg I know that it's days are numbered, given how often SMS doesn't work. I just thought it should be mentioned. We're going to update the SMS carrier config to mirror verizon for straight talk so patron accounts don't need altered.
16:28 Dyrcona I don't think we call out any specific carriers in the documentation, do we?
16:28 Dyrcona There are some providers where it depends on service area which other provider's gateway you need to use.
16:29 Dyrcona It's Verizon one place, AT&T somewhere else.
16:30 JonHGeorg I don't think specific carriers are listed in the documentation for that reason, and they seem to change semi-regularly as they buy out each other, but I just thought someone might need that info.
16:30 Dyrcona yeahp, and now it's in the IRC logs.
16:31 Dyrcona JonHGeorg++
16:38 JonHGeorg Exactly. Thanks. It'll be interesting to see how the migration away from SMS continues to take shape.
16:42 Dyrcona Well, I think we'll end up having to add support for various commercial SMS gateway providers, but not recommending any, leaving it up to individual sites to choose which one to get service from. I suspect that email to SMS will remain the default until it absolutely stops working.
16:43 JonHGeorg Agreed.
