08:43 kmlussier Good morning #evergreen! I've been negligent in my duties to keep everyone in this channel properly caffeinated.

09:32 Rogan kmlussier: I'm staying hydrated with my normal pgtips english morning coffee
09:37 kmlussier Rogan: I initially thought you were saying you energized yourself by reading Postgres tips. But now I see pg tips is a real thing in the tea world. A new fact to add to my already overloaded brain.
09:38 Rogan kmlussier its a pretty common brand in the UK from what I'm told, well and caffeinated as a morning tea should be
09:38 Rogan postgres tips would be interesting but not wake me up :)
09:39 kmlussier Rogan: In my case, postgres tips would be a cure for insomnia.
09:41 mantis1 @tea [kmlussier]
09:41 * pinesol brews and pours a pot of Honey Black Tea, and sends it sliding down the bar to Have you run autogen.sh? (http://ratetea.com/tea/health-and-tea/honey-black-tea/7529/)
09:51 Bmagic we keep a case of pgtips at the office dluch partakes regularly, me sometimes :)
10:25 Dyrcona So, I'm redoing the IDL update/merge. I'm going through and splitting the differences where the required attribute was added whitespace was changed, so that the first commit only concerns lines where the required attribute is added.
10:26 Dyrcona The second commit will regularize the remaining whitespace. Doing the latter will make doing something like this easier in the future.
10:33 Dyrcona Also the punctuation will be normalized to " in the second commit.

11:00 sandbergja Anybody up for creating some point releases next Wednesday (31 Jan) or Friday (2 Feb)?
11:00 sandbergja If there are no objections, I can also send out a call to the devs and newdevs lists for volunteers
11:01 Dyrcona sandbergja: Just email the lists. I'll have to check my calendar, but I've got a lot going on. I'm sure everyone else does, too.
11:02 csharp_ @who thought software was a good idea?
11:02 pinesol sandbergja thought software was a good idea.
11:03 Dyrcona We need to have a bigger conversation about releases in general, not just point releases. The last one was 3 months "late" according to our original goa.
11:04 Dyrcona Also, given how we upgrade via tarball, point releases are useless after a certain point. ...
11:04 * Dyrcona shuts up and goes back to tedium.
11:07 kmlussier mantis1: Thank you!
11:10 kmlussier sandbergja++ # Nudging on next point release.
11:10 * kmlussier also agrees with Dyrcona that a discussion about releases in general is a good idea.
11:11 kmlussier I could see release discussions being a standing agenda item until we feel like we're getting the balance right again.

11:25 Dyrcona So, initial pass is done: 1,229 differences in the end.
11:30 Dyrcona I suppose I should double check before committing.
11:37 sandbergja Dyrcona++ # having all those required fields in the IDL will be such a good UI (and beyond) improvement

13:09 Dyrcona Hm... diff has an option to ignore white-space changes, but not to only show white-space changes.
13:55 Dyrcona Ugh. The CDATA sections are a problem when it comes to indenting the IDL.
13:56 jeff what are you trying to do, and would xmllint --format help you, or would that destroy significant whitespace in IDL comments/etc?
13:58 jeff are you trying to make your non-whitespace changes first, then make a big big "xml whitespace cleanup" commit?
13:59 Dyrcona yes.
14:00 Dyrcona I might give xmllint a whirl later. I think I'm going to put this aside for a bit and work on something more important.
14:02 Dyrcona The indentation doesn't respect the vim/Emacs settings at the bottom. I have also noted that the Emacs on this Ubuntu 20.04 laptop is ignoring the settings. We've got mostly tabs, but some spaces mixed in.
14:04 Dyrcona I suspect the file may be too large for Emacs to care about the settings at the bottom. If they were at the top, it would probably work. I may move the comment just to test that theory. They're also some "unsafe" variables, so I may need to check if I've allowed them to be changed in my Emacs config....Software....
