mmorgan, I didn't see your question on Friday, B&T did say it was on their end. It is still broken this morning when I test it. |
08:35 |
mmorgan |
Stompro: Thanks! I got a similar reply from B&T late Friday. Tested it first thing myself, too.:) Still broken.:-( |

Hye, I'm Ariez. I having difficulties to create Circulation Policies in Evergreen. I already set the Circulation Policies according to shelving location. |

ahazaril: can you provide more details about what's not working? |
10:22 |
ahazaril |
when i'm doing check-out, it shows error: no_matchpoint |
10:22 |
csharp_ |
ahazaril: for all items or just some? |
10:23 |
csharp_ |
ahazaril: that error means that the conditions of the circulation didn't match any of the rules you've configured |
10:23 |
jeff |
It sounds like you have created some policies (based on your post to the mailing list, "Unable to Create Circulation Policies"), but it's possible that the policies you have now created are too specific, and aren't matching the item + library + user that you're testing with. Sometimes a "catch-all" policy helps, other times you *want* to know that things are amiss -- like the current "no matchpoint" error |
10:23 |
ahazaril |
actually i just installed back Evergreen and i'm not fully skilful enough to set up Evergreen |
10:23 |
jeff |
you're getting. |
10:24 |
ahazaril |
i see |
10:24 |
csharp_ |
ahazaril: yes, lots of moving parts |
10:24 |
rhamby |
start with as broad a policy as possible for all users, all items, all locations and then create more specific ones after you know that one is working |
10:24 |
rhamby |
and it can be your default for your most common items and patrons types |
10:25 |
ahazaril |
can you guys give me some examples for configuring circulation policies |
10:25 |
ahazaril |
because, i need to expert enough to use Evergreen before i'm installing to one of the school library in Malaysia |
10:26 |
csharp_ |
ahazaril: very cool that you're doing that! |
10:27 |
terranm |
That is exciting! |
10:27 |
csharp_ |
ahazaril: https://docs.evergreen-ils.org/eg/docs/latest/admin_initial_setup/borrowing_items.html#_circulation_rules provides some guidance - have you seen that? |
10:27 |
csharp_ |
maybe start at the top of that page for context |
10:27 |
ahazaril |
i doing a research a lot about Evergreen as Evergreen give Consortium option, suitable for library school in Malaysia |
10:28 |
terranm |
For the basic broad circulation policy, you can set one up with just the permission group set to the top "Users" level and the org unit set to the top "Consortium" level and nothing else filled in. |
10:29 |
csharp_ |
ahazaril: to be successful, you'll need strong Linux server admin skills and patience and time to learn Evergreen's configuration |
10:29 |
csharp_ |
ahazaril: lots of people here can point you to resources, but at the end of the day you'll need to be the expert :-) |
10:30 |
csharp_ |
(or investigate getting admin help from someone with skills/knowledge - or even hosting, if that's reasonable for your situation) |

10:40 |
ahazaril |
No |
10:40 |
ahazaril |
I put value in Copy circ library |
10:40 |
ahazaril |
after I remove the vlaue, it seems work now |
10:41 |
Dyrcona |
OK! Glad to hear it. |
10:43 |
ahazaril |
thanks! for now i need to read again the manual n learn how to use evergreen |
10:43 |
Dyrcona |
What rhamby suggested earlier is to input a row with almost all of the match fields blank and the rule fields filled in. This would be a default rule that would match any circulation that doesn't match other rules. |
10:44 |
Dyrcona |
Evergreen matches from most specific to least specific rule, so having a "blank" rule as a fall back is a good idea. |
10:44 |
rhamby |
and depending on your needs may save you a lot of time |
10:45 |
ahazaril |
noted on that Dyrcona. |
10:45 |
ahazaril |
Thanks rhamby |
10:45 |

I've often thought we should do a round table of this kind of thing at the conference and record it sometime |
10:46 |
rhamby |
not "here is what you have to do" but "here are things that might make your life easier starting with configuring Evergreen" |
10:46 |
ahazaril |
interesting! perhaps Evergreen Committee can host a session for newbie like me |
10:47 |

I'd love to see a detailed recording of the entire process of installing and configuring a new Evergreen instance from scratch. |

before this, i'm trying to install evergreen back in 2017 after I finished my high school. but due to lack of skills in ubuntu, i seek helps from local ubuntu community in Malaysia |
10:49 |
rhamby |
we often have sort of orientation to the community events at the conference but not ones that go into specific areas |
10:50 |
ahazaril |
so this year i'm planning to install to my high school library after school librarian decided to migrate to the new library system |
10:50 |
rhamby |
I'd be curious to see next year's conference committee pole the community for a few of those, especially if it's online again since recording is fairly straightforward that way |
10:50 |
ahazaril |
i will share the entire procces after i finished install at the school library terranm |

because i'm planning to join IFLA Conference in Rotterdam this year, and one of my friends suggested to bring Evergreen as a topic for poster competition |

ahazaril the community conference is coming up in april, details at evergreen-ils.org; it is in the united states but a few sessions will be streamed. next year's we don't have a schedule for yet but may be entirely online |

10:56 |

it didn't show in calendar Dyrcona |

has anyone tried this self check out software? https://www.greensburglibrary.org/selfcheck & https://evergreenindiana.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Customizable-Open-Source-Self-Check.pdf |
11:52 |
ahazaril |
i'm trying to setup but but it shows Patron is not allowed to check out the selected items |
11:53 |
Dyrcona |
ahazaril: Evergreen has its own built-in self check out. |
11:54 |
ahazaril |
i see |
11:54 |
Dyrcona |
As it says in the slides on Disadvantages, that one you've linked to is "not supported by Evergreen tech. support." |
11:55 |
Dyrcona |
If I remember correctly, the Evergreen circulation code has a line that checks if a patron is checking out to themselves as part of the permission checks. This is so that online renewals and the self check work. |
11:56 |

Does anyone know if there actually is a NISO NCIP committee right now? I'm finding lots of dead links on www.ncip.info and on the niso.org site. |
12:59 |
Dyrcona |
Stompro: I dunno. Do you need any document in particular? I have a couple of them locally. |
13:01 |

All the V1 schema links are dead, our state ILL uses OCLC VDX, which uses NCIP V1, plus a translator to V2 to communicate with Evergreen. |
13:04 |
Stompro |
So I was just going to check out the V1 schema, but cannot find a link that works on there. |

I sent NISO HQ an email just to see if they know what is up. |

this line from the documentation: "Why would you want to use the weak mode? Well, it could be that you have a huge collection of ISBN numbers, and that there are so many of them that for weird reasons some have the wrong check digit [...]" is right up there with "The maximum practical number of sort bins [...] is probably only 3 or 4, but many digits are allowed to accommodate some sort of fantastic |
