We do a specific Z39.50 search every 10 minutes to check that the service is up. The check suddenly started timing out (no response in 15s); looking more closely, the service was fine but the search included this one particular "bad" record, and it was the unapi.bre call for that record that was causing the results to return slowly. |

Did a pretty broad db vacuum last night which seems to have helped, though if that was the fix then it makes me wonder why autovac didn't prevent this behavior. |

The autovac defaults are percentage based and uselessly large for some of our largest tables; they’re something like 20% of table size or so on. I’ve had time to look up enough to know things need to be changed, but not enough time to put together the changes to make… |
