Is anyone else getting occasional spam from "Ecrlib" that looks like it is replies to messages from the Evergreen General mailing list, or is it just me? |
| 12:57 |
jihpringle |
with the subject Most Popular? |
| 12:58 |
Dyrcona |
No. Mine are usually "Re: [Evergreen-general] Question about search results page" The subject is likely related to something that the recipient sent to the list. It includes the body of a message that I sent with that subject after the spam part. |
| 12:58 |
jihpringle |
I'm seeing it come with that subject from a variety of emails pretending to be the general list |
| 12:59 |
jihpringle |
yup, that sounds like exactly what I'm seeing except mine are usually "Re: [Evergreen-general] Most popular?" |
| 12:59 |
Dyrcona |
Well, I'm not so sure it is pretending to the be general list. It looks like an individual reply. The email address does vary. |
| 13:00 |
jihpringle |
my email shows it as from Evergreen Discussion Group but then when I look at the actual sending email it's some random email |
| 13:01 |
Dyrcona |
I didn't think I was alone. I've been running them through my spam trainer for the ones that get through, but I think I'm going to add a rule where the From begins with Ecrlib. |
| 13:01 |
Dyrcona |
jihpringle: When you say, "my email shows it as from Evergreen Discussion Group" how are you determining that? |
| 13:03 |
jihpringle |
when I look at the email that's what displays in the From field. If I hover over it it shows me the actual email address and I can see it in the source as well |
| 13:03 |
jihpringle |
we use Horde |
| 13:04 |
Dyrcona |
The emails that I get have the list name in the subject, but that's it. Everything else looks like it was sent directly to me. |
| 13:06 |
jihpringle |
This is what shows for me in the source From: "Evergreen Discussion Group" <kenya.barnett lcinvestment.com> (unless I go into the source my email just displays what's in quotes in the from field |
| 13:06 |
Dyrcona |
That might explain why mine always say "Ercrlib." They're attempting to spoof a mailing list name. |
| 13:06 |
Dyrcona |
Ecrlib....rather. |
| 13:07 |
Dyrcona |
i don't get that many, but it is enough to be a nuisance. |
| 13:07 |
jihpringle |
I've just been deleting them, but it looks like at least for the last week I've been getting one every three days |
| 13:08 |
Dyrcona |
I get them about that often. I'd say two or three per week. |
| 13:11 |
jihpringle |
I've also seen some weird spam emails from launchpad in reference to https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1865302 |

Someone was posting spam comments on Launchpad recently. I've hidden 3 this week. Someone reported the user accounts to Lp staff. |

So, right off the bat, starting ejabberd from systemctl "hangs" with interesting messages in the logs. |
| 16:16 |
Dyrcona |
The messages seem to imply that ejabberd requires a public ip address. |

I'm not looking at the logs you're looking at, but you might need/want to disable some ejabberd features, including any ACME bits for SSL cert issuance... |

I can pick it up tomorrow, and I've got two virtual machines to work with. I set up an extra one so I wouldn't necessarily have to start over. |
