Does anyone use the MARC stream importer with OCLC? |
14:47 |
Dyrcona |
I have questions. |
14:51 |
berick |
Dyrcona: affirmative |
14:52 |
JBoyer |
claiming 1284 for (void *) |
14:53 |
Dyrcona |
Can other staff see the queue used by the importer, i.e. can catalogers use their regular login to access it? |
14:54 |
berick |
Dyrcona: it's the same as any other bib queue |
14:55 |
|
collum joined #evergreen |
14:55 |
Dyrcona |
So, yes? |
14:57 |
* berick |
doublechecks the view perms.. |
14:58 |
berick |
yes, assuming the right perms |
14:58 |
Dyrcona |
Here's the thing: We have 3 catalogers that are going to load records via the stream importer from OCLC, and we'll want them to all be able to process it, etc. |
14:59 |
Dyrcona |
Also, I've never used Vandelay. Can you reuse a queue? That is, can you add some records, process them, then add more later and just process those? |
14:59 |
Dyrcona |
Well, "never' means once or twice for one time tests. |
15:00 |
berick |
yes you can reuse queues. |
15:01 |
Dyrcona |
I thought so, but I've never done it. |
15:01 |
Dyrcona |
Thanks, berick++ |
15:01 |
Dyrcona |
We're going to set up a test on our training server, and I think I know what I need to do to set it up, despite my seemingly ignorant questions. :) |
15:02 |
berick |
Dyrcona: you can also tell the stream importer to import the records as they arrive so staff don't have to interract with vandelay |
15:02 |
Dyrcona |
berick: Yeah. I think they want them in the queue and then they import/overlay later. |
15:02 |
berick |
*nod* |
15:02 |
berick |
that works too |
15:02 |
Dyrcona |
Right now, they're all updating a file on a server that one of them imports later. |
15:04 |
* Dyrcona |
seems to be having difficulty with task switching today. |

Can anyone tell me how to get a report of the bookings scheduled through the booking module? |
16:07 |
ddale |
Not the pull list but an annual report |
16:15 |
jihpringle |
ddale: we have a report template that gives a list by barcode if total reservations |
16:16 |
jihpringle |
we have it set up to be monthly |
16:16 |
jihpringle |
it's based on the request_time column in the booking.reservation table |
16:16 |
jihpringle |
does that sound like what you're looking for? |
16:17 |
ddale |
Yes, that does sound right. |
16:19 |

ddale if you message me your email I can send you screen shots of the Display Fields and Filters in the template editor |

forgive my lack of cataloging expierence. But I've just manually linked a 650 to an authority record, and Evergreen plopped this little nugget into the MARC $0(Set cat.marc_control_number_identifier in Library Settings)2 |
16:28 |
Bmagic |
I went and found the code that created that. It's a result of that setting being null. OK, then, I'll set that setting. The setting description is a bit vegue |
16:28 |
Bmagic |
vague |
16:28 |
Bmagic |
"Defines the control number identifier used in 003 and 035 fields." |
16:31 |
Bmagic |
and now, I assume that without this library setting, the bib link does nothing. I need to set it to be equal to the Authority record's field? Like "150" ? |

Bmagic: the value of the setting in question is often a MARC organization code. More information on those here: https://www.loc.gov/marc/organizations/ and also mentioned by the 003 and 035 field defs, i.e. https://loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd003.html |
17:26 |

jeff: sweet! In other words, it's nothing functional for Evergreen? |
17:26 |
jeff |
Bmagic: for example, I believe PINES has theirs set to GaAaGPL |
17:30 |
jeff |
I don't know offhand what the impact is if you have it unset. I think it's recommended to have it set to something if you have maintain_control_numbers enabled, but it might be required/preferred even with that off. |

I'm still chasing down the code that should* be giving me authority search results when the search term from the authority record tag 550 is searched for. I think I'm really close |
17:36 |
Bmagic |
This table: authority.control_set_authority_field contains the glue. select * from authority.control_set_authority_field where tag in('550','450') |
17:37 |
Bmagic |
(I'm sure this is all stock default) - shows me that my database is configured to "consume" the 450 and the 550. The search is working when I use anything from the 450 (working in this context means that Evergreen gives me the "see also" stuff) |
17:38 |
Bmagic |
I think where it breaks down is authority.simple_heading |
17:38 |
Bmagic |
That table is not* receiving rows from the authority record's 550 field |
17:50 |
Bmagic |
I'm mistaken on that, the 550 is in the authority.simple_heading, somewhere along the search, my 550 stuff is getting omitted |

I think it's this hardcoded string in the function: AND ahf.heading_purpose IN (' || $$'variant'$$ || ') |
