08:57 Bmagic Dyrcona: sorry I wasn't here. We had a nice family trip to the St. Louis Zoo yesterday! It was mega awesome sweet!
08:58 Bmagic I see you found bug 1931162 and commented on it :)
08:58 pinesol Launchpad bug 1931162 in Evergreen "Did You Mean optimization fails for some data sets" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1931162
08:58 Bmagic @later tell Dyrcona scroll up
08:58 pinesol Bmagic: The operation succeeded.

09:12 Dyrcona Bmagic: I can't scroll up. I'll have to check the logs.
09:15 Dyrcona Bmagic: Well, not exactly. I was a ware of the bug from before, but I didn't test it in its own context. I tested it in the context of bug 1931737 where it makes no difference, as I expected.
09:15 pinesol Launchpad bug 1931737 in Evergreen "Did you mean breaks parallel reingest" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1931737
09:15 Dyrcona Honestly, if I had noticed that issue, I may not have signed off did you mean, but I can't say with 100% certainty today.

10:54 miker Bmagic: did you have a chance to apply the fix from 1931162? (I don't see any comments from Dyrcona on there...)
10:55 miker (and Dyrcona's correct, the fix on 1931162 would have no impact on the pingest issue)

11:07 Bmagic miker: sorry, I don't have feedback on that yet
11:07 Bmagic it will be a week or two I'm afraid
11:08 miker no worries. it's working well for us so far :)
11:17 mantis Interested to hear thoughts about a particular situation.  One library called us to say that for a few weeks none of their computers using Evergreen scans things correctly.  For example when checking in items, ten items would be scanned but only one would actually be processed by the system.  No other libraries have reported this and this particular library migrated from XUL to the web client recently with this happening to them.  My
11:17 mantis thought was it was a connection issue.
11:21 jeff several things come to mind: is this a typical barcode scanner or something else, like an RFID pad or checkin EM ("tattle-tape") security device? how quickly are the items scanned? what happens on subsequent scans instead of what's expected?
11:22 jeff and, are the results any different if they type digits on the keyboard and press enter?

11:31 mantis jeff: I'm hoping that they'll call back soon so I can look at these other options.  I believe they have a barcode scanner without security tags on their items.

11:41 Bmagic mantis: make sure "check digit" isn't turned on for the staff client interface
12:02 jeff i think the option Bmagic is referring to is "strict barcode", which would be a problem if your barcodes don't have the expected check digit that "strict barcode" checks for.
12:04 jeff the symptom in the case of "strict barcode" being enabled and your item barcodes don't have the expected check digit is the staff client reports "invalid barcode" and asks if you want to proceed with the barcode or not.

14:06 mantis jeff: To answer an earlier question, the library uses regular barcodes for their items (no security tags), "Strict Barcode" was not in use, and like every live demo ever, of course the system was scanning properly when she did a video session with me.
14:07 mantis Basically, they scan items (at a pretty managable speed it looks like) and sometimes it shows up and sometimes it doesn't.  Typing the barcode in would sometimes result in the same thing.  I did notice that they had autofill on and advised them to turn that off.  Hopefully that can be helpful
14:07 mantis jeff++ I appreciate your follow up questions
