if you are planning on attending the hack-a-way in indiana this year please fill out the survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XTH2KYY before end of day tomorrow |
10:10 |
rhamby |
FYI if anyone has strong feelings about October 18th-20th veruss Nov 1-3 those are in a dead heat right now |
10:14 |
Dyrcona |

rhamby |
and for the record I blame email weirdness on my dog howling in the background |
10:15 |
rhamby |
it is really freaking unnerving |
10:19 |
alynn26 |
lol |
10:20 |
alynn26 |
Has anyone had a request to make the opac available but not allow patrons to login to the opac. |
10:20 |
berick |
rhamby: i prefer Nov if that helps |
10:21 |
rhamby |
berick I will add that to votes pile |
10:25 |
Dyrcona |
rhamby: November is slightly preferable for me, too, but all of the dates work. |
10:26 |
rhamby |
we usually don't have a tie like this so preferred dates are good to know |
10:26 |
rhamby |
in the future I need to use a service that lets me do weighted choices |
10:27 |
Dyrcona |
alynn26: I can't say that I have had that request. Is this for 1 location/library? |
10:27 |
rhamby |
survey monkey has also removed a ton of features from their free tier since I last used it |
10:27 |
rhamby |
alynn26 I know we've done it in the past though not routinely, I'd have to ask somoen in ops about what they did for it as my memory is fuzzy |
10:29 |
Dyrcona |
If it's just one library with their own domain name, you could make a custom template directory for them where the login page doesn't do anything but redirects to the home page. It would require some Apache config to support it. |
10:30 |
Dyrcona |
Might not even need the custom template. |
10:32 |
alynn26 |
It is one library, I have a way forward for this to work. If I need to pursue it. |
10:33 |
rhamby |
my instinct would be custom template too |
10:34 |
alynn26 |
Thanks |

Dyrcona / gmcharlt Could I get this merged into antora-ui master: https://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=working/eg-antora.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/user/blake/dig-email-footer |
10:47 |

I had to resolve a merge conflict to backport someone else's fix to 3.5 - should I get someone else to sign off on the backport, or can I go ahead and commit? (bug 1918362) |
10:47 |
pinesol |
Launchpad bug 1918362 in Evergreen 3.6 "Unchanged workstation settings are re-applied on every checkin" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1918362 |
10:50 |
Dyrcona |
jeffdavis: That depends on your confidence in the backport, really. If I'm not confident in the backport, I usually comment that in the bug and don't push it, or ask someone else to do the backport. |
10:51 |
Dyrcona |
Some conflicts are more obvious to resolve than others. |
10:52 |
Dyrcona |
Bmagic: Should you have commit access to the eg-antor git repo? |
10:52 |
jeffdavis |
OK, thanks. In this case I want to put the backport in production ASAP, so maybe I'll do that and commit next week if nothing blows up. |
10:53 |
Dyrcona |
jeffdavis: That's an excellent idea. I've done that, too, since we're usually a few versions behind. |
10:53 |
Bmagic |
Dyrcona: I'm not sure what the answer is for that |
10:54 |
Dyrcona |
Bmagic: I can tell you that you do have access to push to it, so you don't have to ask. |
10:54 |
Bmagic |
oh |
10:54 |
Dyrcona |
I had to look it up, fwiw. |
11:40 |
miker |
alynn26: I've done something like that by using just a few custom templates and sprinkling `class="[% IF !ctx.authtoken; 'hide_me'; END %]"` on thing like place-hold and my-list links/<option>s/<div>s that would drive someone through the login interstitial, and the main my-account <div> in the header. then the staff client still works, but you can't get an authtoken (easily) through the opac. there's surprisingly little to touch. in stock templates it |
11:40 |
miker |
looks like parts/cart.tt2, parts/record/summary.tt2, parts/result/table.tt2 and parts/topnav.tt2 ... should be about the same in the bootstrap opac |
11:59 |
alynn26 |
Thanks miker, I am waiting on them to come back to me. I think we are going to try to adjust the timeouts first. Set it for about 2 minutes then see if they are happy with that. I rather keep the options |
12:09 |
Dyrcona |
Why don't they want patrons logging in? They don't want them placing holds? |
12:20 |
jeffdavis |
A read-only mode would be useful during maintenance windows, fwiw. |

12:25 |
Dyrcona |
True, but we're usually doing database upgrades, etc. We have a "down for maintenance site" that we activate during those down times. |
12:30 |
jeffdavis |
I was imagining a maintenance server that is basically a copy of production, with login disabled to prevent holds, renewals etc while "real" production is upgraded. I should try setting up a server without open-ils.auth to see if that works. |

JBoyer |
I'm going to guess unless this library is a prison (users can't access it anyway) or school (have never cared before) that this is a spectacularly patron-hostile idea with equally bad reasoning. |
12:35 |
JBoyer |
Something something "We know our patrons, they're never going to want to do that." |
12:47 |
jeffdavis |
As a patron, when my library's ILS has been down, I've been grateful to still be able to search the catalogue via the discovery layer. I don't know the actual use case here though. |

We have some associate members or whatever who place holds for their patrons, but their patrons are not in the system, so they can't login. |
14:13 |

JBoyer: you mean you /don't/ recommend just changing the PG user that EG uses to be RO and letting users flail against a RO replica? ;) |

I was just curious what motivates the request to block patrons from logging in. I can think of reasons. |
15:12 |
alynn26 |
Dyrcona, I think more patron privacy then anything, was the concern. |
15:18 |
Dyrcona |
OK. I wasn't expecting that one. |

Dyrcona gmcharlt: alright, this one will* require a core committer. to Evergreen: https://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=working/Evergreen.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/user/blake/antora-search-index-latest-only |
15:33 |
gmcharlt |
Bmagic: I'll grab it now. Just needed for master? |
15:33 |
Bmagic |
yeah, just master |
15:34 |
Bmagic |
and that does it for my momentary EG docs fixes :) |

though, it's probably worth mentioning that I've synced our docs skin from the antora default UI repo (bringing in all the latest stuff with our stuff on top) - and the new footer is now on production (the blurb about emailing DIG) |

lunr (as far as I can tell) doesn't feature the ability to show search results per version of Evergreen, so I prefer (and I am sure most of you will agree) that the search results only show results from "latest" - instead of showing triple results for each version of Evergreen that's indexed |
