berick: We didn't run out of RAM but a/t can't handle that many events. The whole thing blew up last night. I reset the collected events to pending and ran the a/t again. It blew up again later. I suspect we may have some patrons with so many items out that we're getting template output larger than our max stanza size. |
08:15 |
Dyrcona |
This morning's overdues also blew up with less than 1,000 events. I'm going to focus on resolving those and then go back to "fixing" yesterday's. |
08:15 |
Dyrcona |
Does anyone remember the message to look for when a message exceeds max stanza size? I tried grepping the logs for 'stanza', but that turned up stuff about someone named Constanza. |
08:20 |
Dyrcona |
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I think A/T is the wrong way to do overdues and lost. They ought to be standalone programs run from cron. |

csharp Bmagic: I missed the comment about adding indexes yesterday. I recall adding an index or two to speed things up, but I should look into that some more when I have time. (HA!) |
08:31 |
Dyrcona |
Does anyone have a recommendation on what to do with events that are stuck in "cleaning" state? I'm going to leave them alone for now. |

Fascinating! Those "cleaning" events seemed to have been picked up by the --run-pending a/t runner that I started, or perhaps the one that we have scheduled to run regularly. I notice that they are no longer in the database. Perhaps they were being processed at the time, and I didn't notice. |

Going through the scroll back in my terminal, I can see that the numbers of the collected and complete states on the events were changing. I just didn't notice the first time because they changed so little. |
08:46 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: Yes, that's helpful, and that's what I seem to recall. I'll check the gateway logs, but I'm less inclined to think that's my problem today. |
08:46 |
Dyrcona |
I guess 32GB is not enough RAM for a utility server..... |
08:48 |
Dyrcona |
We seem to have trouble with a/t events on a semi-annual basis. I recall having trouble with autorenewals around New Year. |
08:49 |
Dyrcona |
Of course, this is exceptional, given that we've not run overdue notices since May, and we set the delay to go all the way back. |
08:51 |
Dyrcona |
And, for the sake of the logs, there are no "XML stanza' messages in the gateweay logs from yesterday or today, and I'm not sure that these go through the gateway anyway. |
08:51 |
mmorgan |
Dyrcona: That's a big chunk! |

08:52 |

86,426 each for email and print events. |
08:52 |
Dyrcona |
This morning there 738 each, and they didn't finish until I reset the collected ones and started a new runner. |
08:53 |
Dyrcona |
It really shouldn't take this long to process these. Again, I think A/T is too inefficient for this kind of batch processing. |

dluch: I'm also in a college town and I am so grateful they opted for all-remote for the fall |
14:06 |
abneiman |
as for me, the humidity is revolting here but otherwise we're mostly OK |
14:06 |
dluch |
abneiman: that IS good. I haven't paid attention to the news this week, but last week the MU pres. said they weren't going to close because young people get over it quickly. *eyeroll |

Apparently the MU pres never missed two weeks of school and then tried to catch up while also living the "college experience." |

What is everyone planning to work on today? Please let us know here, and feel free to talk and work with each other. If you'd like extra accountability, I can make an action item to show up in the minutes, but it's not necessary |
14:47 |
dluch |
Also, for the last meeting, I made a list of ideas you can work on (alone or with others) if you don't already have something. I know it can be kind of overwhelming sometimes to know where to start. |

belatedly - I did have an item of new biz (apologies) - and it is that Outreach is going to be reviewing wiki pages for outdated info. I know that the DIG stuff is pretty well maintained, so this shouldn't affect its pages, but just as an FYI |

phasefx: i was able to get freenode staff to remove the k-line. They suggested running identd to avoid that in the future, though with quassel I'm not sure that will help. There's probably a way. |

gmcharlt: (and other acq angularizers): a note that the course materials module branch includes a new component called <eg-marc-simplified-editor>, which might be helpful when you get to brief records in acq. Given some MARC tags/subfields/default data/indicators, it constructs a friendly-looking form without any MARC tags in sight. |
