how is the importance of a bug in launchpad determined? |
08:14 |
alynn26 |
rfrasur: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance |
08:14 |
rfrasur |
But who decides it? |
08:15 |
rhamby |
rfrasur: in practice whoever initially files the bug sets an importance but others can go behind and change it |
08:15 |

thanks |

rfrasur: I tend to file bugs at conservative/lower importance but trust that others will bump it up if it's used more widely than I know, I sometimes comment on the bug asking others to do so if I'm reporting one that I don't know the workflows on well, since it can be low importance to one library and high to another |
08:18 |
rhamby |
the ymmv variable makes it a bit of negotiation at times but we seem to make it work |
08:21 |
rfrasur |
I suspect I'm probably missing something obvious, but I don't see anywhere to actually edit the importance. |
08:21 |
rfrasur |
And I'm looking at a bug that I submitted. |
08:21 |
rfrasur |
Oh, hold on. |
08:22 |
rfrasur |
Yeah, it says it's only editable by a project maintainer or bug supervisor. |

@later tell jihpringle Thanks! I might have found an item that wasn't assigned a branch. Looking at the code, it seems that could cause the issue |

jeffdavis: Dunno if you've encountered this before, but OverDrive APIs apparently don't like passwords with certain symbol characters in them. I even tried URI escaping my password in the api checker, but it still reported a 500 Intern Server Error: A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (password=\\"REDACTED\\"). |
09:42 |
Dyrcona |
Naturally, I'm not clumsy enough to paste my actual password in a publicly logged channel, at least not today. :) |
09:43 |
rfrasur |
Dyrcona++ |
09:44 |

accidentally pasted his password for OFTC net in a channel over there once. Thought I was chatting with the NickServ bot. ... Talk about "Oops, wrong window." :) |
09:44 |
rfrasur |
and then a flurry of password changing? |
09:45 |
Dyrcona |
Well, not a flurry. I only used that password on OFTC net, but yea. |
09:45 |
rfrasur |
a very, very brief and somewhat nonchalant flurry. |
09:46 |
Dyrcona |
So, that stinks that OverDrive won't accept legitimate passwords. Someone needs to introduce their programmers to the functions for safely handling "odd" characters. |
09:46 |
Dyrcona |
rfrasur++ |
09:46 |
* rfrasur |
probably shouldn't blanketly say "Overdrive stinks" considering she just downloaded another audiobook through them this morning. |
09:47 |
Dyrcona |
The upshot from this is that even if we fix the bugs in Evergreen for using passwords with OverDrive, it still won't work for some patrons with decent passwords. |
09:47 |
Dyrcona |

09:48 |

doesn't use OverDrive, personally...Not for any particular reason. Just haven't. |
09:48 |
Dyrcona |
Guess I can't, now, that they need our passwords. :) |
09:49 |
rfrasur |
Libby syncs nicely with my car which makes the hour long drive to work more palatable. and makes me feel a little less lax in terms of my reading. Nothing like a shot of righteousness in the morning. |
09:49 |
Dyrcona |
Actually, I'd be all right with MVLC. My password there doesn't have any banned characters. |
09:50 |
Dyrcona |
Yeah, I've considered listening to audiobooks on the way to work instead of music. I might "read" more books that way. |
09:51 |
rfrasur |
I prefer listening to music, but the books make the drive seem faster. I'm sure there's a psychological/neurological reason for that, but...I'm a librarian and neither a psychologist nor neurologist. Just a plain ol' observer rather than understander/explainer. |
09:51 |
Dyrcona |
Some vendors are still stuck in the '90s where PINs were used instead of passwords. |
09:52 |
rfrasur |
lol, yes, some of them are. Bless them. |
09:52 |
Dyrcona |
I do the opposite of bless them. :) |
09:53 |
Dyrcona |
But, anyway.... I guess it is still worth looking into the bugs with passwords, even if I can't use my account to test it. |
09:55 |
Dyrcona |
Really, I think it would be better if we had an OAuth provider and vendors connected to that to authorize our patrons. Looks like OverDrive's authentication is a form of OAuth provider. |

Dyrcona: there is a "granted auth" flow for Overdrive that would allow users to authenticate without providing a password, if I understand correctly. It didn't really fit with the development requirements I inherited but it would be a nice alternative for EG to support. |
13:32 |
jeffdavis |
(without providing their password to Overdrive, that is) |
13:34 |
Dyrcona |
Well, here's what we found: Everything was working without a password, until we switched regular OverDrive to require a password for authentication, then the API broke for us. Enabling password authentication for the API doesn't work because of bugs. I'm not worried about other flows at the moment. |
13:34 |
Dyrcona |
Long term, granted auth is worth exploring. |
13:35 |
Dyrcona |
Of course, somebody's working on something that may render this obsolete. |
13:35 |
Dyrcona |
I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, now, but I attended a session on it at the last conference.--Too much has happened since for me to keep it all in my head. |
