09:48 Dyrcona JBoyer: I want you opinion on something with NCIPServer, so I wanted to make sure you were here.
09:49 JBoyer Sure thing. I haven't touched it in a while but I'll take a look

10:23 dbwells Okay, just throwing this out for any takers.  For the first time, I am switching real soon to full-time Mac for my work machine.  Wondering if folks have specific application or workflow pointers for dev productivity on that platform.
10:24 dbwells Doesn't necessarily need to be Mac specific, just anything which works particularly well for you on that platform.  Thanks!

10:29 dbwells For a little extra context, I have basically zero real Mac experience.  Just kinda fed-up with Windows, and we're being forced to Windows 10 this summer, so it seemed like a good time to test the waters.
10:30 Dyrcona I used to use a Mac. I installed MacPorts to have access to most of the F/OSS goodies.  There are probably better ways.  The XUL client was always hit or miss.  Seems like each new Mac OS release would break something new.

10:32 Dyrcona What annoyed me the most about using a Mac was the keyboard. As an Emacs user, having only 1 Ctrl-key kind of messed with my usual workflow. I eventually mapped the "Command" key to do the same as Ctrl in Emacs.
10:33 Dyrcona Then, Apple got even more into their control-the-users-experience-power-trip, and I stopped using Macs. My wife still does, but she doesn't do development.
10:33 jeff dbwells: I like iTerm2 for a terminal. You can experiment with text editors BBEdit, Sublime Text, or emacs/vim with as much/little GUI as you like. Most dev is still done on a VM but when I do use python/perl/etc locally I'm often using what I've installed using homebrew: https://brew.sh/
10:33 JBoyer dbwells, I like the built-in Terminal well enough even if some of the command line utilities are a little out of date. I do like using bbedit for most plain text text work, though like Dyrcona mentioned, you can install most anything if the built in versions of the utilities you're used to are out of date or missing.
10:34 Dyrcona I usually edit my files on my laptop, push to git and build on a VM.

10:34 Dyrcona Mac OS is basically a hacked up copy of FreeBSD that works great with the hardware that Apple uses, so pretty much all the F/OSS stuff just works.
10:39 Dyrcona That said, Leopard (10.5) was the last Mac OS release that I recall using regularly.

10:59 dbwells As far as VMs, are people generally using Virtualbox, or something else?  I had a little trouble getting Virtualbox to install (some security issue which apparently keeps changing), but it seems ok now.
10:59 Dyrcona Well, I never ran VMs on a Mac, so I can't say.
11:00 jeff I tend to avoid running VMs locally, but when I do it's with VirtualBox.
11:00 rhamby I use VirtualBox on a Mac, occasionally an OS update will make me re-enable permissions (yes, I really do want to let this non-app-store app do this) butit's been stable for me
11:01 jeff More often I'm working with VMs on our local VMware systems or in AWS.
11:01 Dyrcona Regarding the command line utilities: They follow BSD option conventions, so they have different/missing options from the GNU utilities. You can install the latter, and the GN versions usually end up with g prepended to the name.
11:01 JBoyer I like Parallels (not the subscription...) but VirtualBox does work fine.
11:05 Dyrcona qemu-kvm may also work. :)
11:08 JBoyer If you want to install that much of MacPorts/Homebrew/etc., be my guest. ;)

11:18 Dyrcona INSTALL ALL THE THINGS!!!!!!
11:34 Dyrcona git says: fatal: refusing to merge unrelated histories
11:34 Dyrcona My response, "Well, la-dee-da...."
11:34 Dyrcona I half expected that response or something to that effect.
11:36 Dyrcona git checkout remote/branch -- . # Does the trick. :)

15:48 Dyrcona @later tell JBoyer: That table restore that I mentioned in private chat just worked without --disable-triggers and then I could delete the 1,400 or so rows for users added after the prior dump.
15:48 pinesol Dyrcona: The operation succeeded.
15:49 Dyrcona The joys of testing SQL code when you figure an AND in your WHERE. Updated more rows than intended.
15:50 Dyrcona s/figure/forget/ # I suppose I should knock off the code after this and just update bug reports. :)
15:52 Dyrcona That's better: 139K rows instead of 1.3M.
15:52 phasefx new Jessie install of OpenSRF master: Failed to start apache2-websockets.service: Unit apache2-websockets.service failed to load: No such file or directory.    Not sure what I did wrong
15:57 Dyrcona My advice is don't use apache2-websockts. Use websocketd instead.
15:57 * phasefx will try that

16:31 mmorgan I don't see column options for patron name fields in the Holds Shelf column picker in 3.2.4. Am I missing something?
16:32 khuckins I think it's displayed as "User Display Name"
