We had an interesting search failure issue yesterday on our 3.0.9 production system. |
09:45 |
mmorgan |
We updated the bib_source for Project Gutenberg to transcendant:FALSE and can_have_copies:FALSE |
09:45 |
mmorgan |
After that, searches done in copy locations or copy location groups failed saying no results. |
09:46 |
mmorgan |
After reverting the change and restarting services, all was well, but we don't understand why making that change should have the affect it did. |
09:46 |
mmorgan |
We only have a handful of deleted bibs in the system with that source. |

Logs for the copy location/location group searches showed a syntax error for the queries |

so... hmm - where is patron circ/hold history stored? currently looking in the DB in the actor and container schemas |
10:20 |
mmorgan |
csharp: actor.usr_circ_history for circs |
10:20 |
mmorgan |
Hild history still comes from action.hold_request, I believe |
10:21 |
csharp |
hmm - the mystery deepens - I don't appear to have that table |
10:21 |
mmorgan |
Hold history, that is. |

oh - *action* not actor |

mmorgan, I was seeing something like that around 3.0.3 but it should have been fixed in 3.0.4. What's the error look like? |
13:09 |
pastebot |
"mmorgan" at 64.57.241.14 pasted "Location search error" (8 lines) at http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/14381 |
13:10 |

JBoyer: ^^ We just couldn't understand how changing attributes of an unused bib source would cause location searches to fail. |
13:16 |
JBoyer |
And short of digging up that specific query I don't suppose it's possible still since the error is so far away. :( I wondered if there might have been some weird interaction with a bib that's not allowed to have items yet still having them, etc. |
13:17 |
JBoyer |
Not worth breaking prod to get curious though. ;) |
13:18 |

has another system to try it on ;-) |
13:19 |

The strange thing is that it broke *every* location/location group search |

I just visited the xulrunner website for the first time and was surprised to see that it was alive and well. And it looks like it's being developed. Thunderbird is still using it? |

You can still run XUL apps using `firefox -app {handwave}`on the cli. |
15:47 |
Dyrcona |
Where "{handwave}" is the path to the ini file or something like that. |
15:48 |
Dyrcona |
Of course, Evergreen won't work that way because we require several features that were removed in XUL 15+. |
15:48 |

Yeah, path to the application.ini file. |

Also, I think that striped border around pages on MDN means the page is about a discontinued/deprecated technology. |
15:52 |
Bmagic |
I was wondering about that. I sort of got that vibe |
15:53 |
Bmagic |
I did notice that the last update was 2015 (but that was much more recent than when I thought it was depricated) |

It was discontinued in 2015. Looks like someone updated the MDN page in September or 2018. |

has been considering joining Thunderbird development, but I don't have a lot of spare time and no real itch to scratch. |

Thunderbird is still using it right? |
15:55 |

I have considered implementing an extension to save emails sent as attachments as emails in their own right. |
15:56 |
Dyrcona |
Not sure. Firefox still uses the XUL technology underneath, but it was merged into Firefox at one point and developed separately from XULRunner. |

I recently installed an add-on that archives mail to a local folder and maintains the folder structure AND for all mailboxes |

I presently use 3 extensions/add-ons: Lightning (for calendars), Enigmail (for GPG encryption, and mail redirect (to redirect, i.e. redeliver an email to someone else). |

I had some Address Book extensions installed but they're not compatible with Thunderbird 60, though I should check again. |

Thunderbird is good software. I love the history being that it was a couple of disgruntled Netscape employees quitting and starting Mozilla (which looked an aweful lot like Netscape) |
15:59 |

Um... Mozilla started at Netscape. |
16:00 |

I could have swore I read an article somewhere. How I got the Mozilla history.... |
16:04 |
jonadab |
Mozilla was open-source but mostly maintained by Netscape employees until sometime in the 0.9.x era. |
16:05 |
jonadab |
I don't know for sure the exact details of the Mozilla Foundatain being started, but I suspect it had something to do with some people seeing the handwriting on the wall for Netscape's ongoing commercial viability. Don't remember if that was before or after the AOL buyout. |
