09:45 mmorgan We had an interesting search failure issue yesterday on our 3.0.9 production system.
09:45 mmorgan We updated the bib_source for Project Gutenberg to transcendant:FALSE and can_have_copies:FALSE
09:45 mmorgan After that, searches done in copy locations or copy location groups failed saying no results.
09:46 mmorgan After reverting the change and restarting services, all was well, but we don't understand why making that change should have the affect it did.
09:46 mmorgan We only have a handful of deleted bibs in the system with that source.

09:51 mmorgan Logs for the copy location/location group searches showed a syntax error for the queries
10:18 csharp so... hmm - where is patron circ/hold history stored?  currently looking in the DB in the actor and container schemas
10:20 mmorgan csharp: actor.usr_circ_history for circs
10:20 mmorgan Hild history still comes from action.hold_request, I believe
10:21 csharp hmm - the mystery deepens - I don't appear to have that table
10:21 mmorgan Hold history, that is.
10:21 csharp oh - *action* not actor
10:22 csharp mmorgan: thanks for the pointers!
10:22 mmorgan Anytime!

13:06 JBoyer mmorgan, I was seeing something like that around 3.0.3 but it should have been fixed in 3.0.4. What's the error look like?
13:09 pastebot "mmorgan" at 64.57.241.14 pasted "Location search error" (8 lines) at http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/14381
13:10 mmorgan JBoyer: ^^ We just couldn't understand how changing attributes of an unused bib source would cause location searches to fail.
13:16 JBoyer And short of digging up that specific query I don't suppose it's possible still since the error is so far away. :( I wondered if there might have been some weird interaction with a bib that's not allowed to have items yet still having them, etc.
13:17 JBoyer Not worth breaking prod to get curious though. ;)
13:18 * mmorgan has another system to try it on ;-)
13:19 mmorgan The strange thing is that it broke *every* location/location group search

14:13 Bmagic I just visited the xulrunner website for the first time and was surprised to see that it was alive and well. And it looks like it's being developed. Thunderbird is still using it?
14:13 Bmagic Evergreen is listed in the hall of fame
14:14 Bmagic https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Archive/Mozilla/XULRunner/Hall_of_Fame
15:02 Dyrcona Um, XULRunner isn't alive and well. Development stopped with version 41 in 2015.
15:26 Bmagic Does it say somewhere that they are no longer working on it?
15:27 hbrennan Bmagic: Wikipedia calls it "discontinued"
15:27 Bmagic ah, thanks
15:28 hbrennan last stable release 41.0.2 in Oct 2015
15:29 hbrennan Bmagic: Being lazy and not looking, you said you're still on 3.0.9?
15:30 Bmagic yep
15:30 hbrennan Know anyone on 3.2 yet?
15:31 Bmagic you!???
15:31 remingtron hbrennan: we're using it as of Wednesday!
15:31 Bmagic remingtron++
15:31 hbrennan Haha, probably soon!
15:31 Bmagic sooo awesome man!
15:31 hbrennan I'm afraid of nothing since going to 3.0.0
15:31 hbrennan remingtron: Sweet!
15:31 remingtron hbrennan++ #no fear
15:32 Bmagic I bet! Ha! I remember you were "having your own hackaway" when you went live during the hackaway

15:32 Bmagic Your words, not mine
15:32 hbrennan yuup
15:32 hbrennan haha
15:33 hbrennan remingtron: Will probably bug you with some questions after the holidays
15:34 remingtron not prob, but you'll do better to bug dbwells
15:35 hbrennan remingtron: You and dbwells = dream team
15:35 remingtron uh, I mean "no prob"
15:35 remingtron wow, thanks!

15:45 Bmagic !!
15:45 Bmagic Dyrcona++
15:46 Dyrcona There are more, but that was the final "plea" for a new maintainer, which went unanswered.
15:46 Bmagic haha, I think that makes it official
15:46 Dyrcona You can still run XUL apps using `firefox -app {handwave}`on the cli.
15:47 Dyrcona Where "{handwave}" is the path to the ini file or something like that.
15:48 Dyrcona Of course, Evergreen won't work that way because we require several features that were removed in XUL 15+.
15:48 Dyrcona Yeah, path to the application.ini file.
15:50 Bmagic Dyrcona++
15:52 Dyrcona Also, I think that striped border around pages on MDN means the page is about a discontinued/deprecated technology.
15:52 Bmagic I was wondering about that. I sort of got that vibe
15:53 Bmagic I did notice that the last update was 2015 (but that was much more recent than when I thought it was depricated)
15:54 Bmagic /depricated/deprecated/
15:54 Dyrcona It was discontinued in 2015. Looks like someone updated the MDN page in September or 2018.
15:54 * Dyrcona has been considering joining Thunderbird development, but I don't have a lot of spare time and no real itch to scratch.
15:55 Bmagic Thunderbird is still using it right?
15:55 Dyrcona I have considered implementing an extension to save emails sent as attachments as emails in their own right.
15:56 Dyrcona Not sure. Firefox still uses the XUL technology underneath, but it was merged into Firefox at one point and developed separately from XULRunner.
15:56 Bmagic I recently installed an add-on that archives mail to a local folder and maintains the folder structure AND for all mailboxes
15:57 Bmagic With a configurable mail age. called "Ausesome Auto Archive"
15:57 Bmagic Auseome/Awesome
15:57 Dyrcona I presently use 3 extensions/add-ons: Lightning (for calendars), Enigmail (for GPG encryption, and mail redirect (to redirect, i.e. redeliver an email to someone else).
15:58 Dyrcona I had some Address Book extensions installed but they're not compatible with Thunderbird 60, though I should check again.
15:59 Bmagic Thunderbird is good software. I love the history being that it was a couple of disgruntled Netscape employees quitting and starting Mozilla (which looked an aweful lot like Netscape)
15:59 Dyrcona Um... Mozilla started at Netscape.
16:00 Bmagic didn't those guys split off (for some office politics or differencing view?)
16:00 Bmagic I see it https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/history/details/
16:01 Bmagic You're right
16:03 Bmagic I could have swore I read an article somewhere. How I got the Mozilla history....
16:04 jonadab Mozilla was open-source but mostly maintained by Netscape employees until sometime in the 0.9.x era.
16:05 jonadab I don't know for sure the exact details of the Mozilla Foundatain being started, but I suspect it had something to do with some people seeing the handwriting on the wall for Netscape's ongoing commercial viability.  Don't remember if that was before or after the AOL buyout.
16:07 Dyrcona If you poke around jwz.org long enough, you'll get one side of the story, plus a lot of other, opinionated stuff.
16:08 Dyrcona https://www.jwz.org/blog/2016/10/they-live-and-the-secret-history-of-the-mozilla-logo/
16:08 Dyrcona That's about how he, JWZ, got Shepard Fairey to design the new Mozilla logo.
16:09 * Dyrcona should clock out.

16:17 Bmagic later!
16:25 Bmagic oh man, this story is great!
16:25 Bmagic Dyrcona++
16:26 Dyrcona I should warn that some things that JWZ posts are not safe for work. That particular blog post should be OK.
16:42 csharp Happy $HOLIDAY_OF_CHOICE to all of my #evergreen friends - I'll be back in the new year
16:43 csharp @praise all y'all

16:44 mmorgan Happy All Holidays! #evergreen
16:44 Dyrcona I'll be off next week, but may pop into IRC, thought I doubt it.
16:44 * Dyrcona should pack for his trip.
16:45 Bmagic Evergreen can wait! Have a good trip!
