csharp_: oh, back on the discussion from yesterday regarding simple inventory techniques... i'm pretty sure i've confirmed that scanning an on-shelf available item for checkin touches at least the last edit time. |
11:17 |
jeff |
(then you probably just have to consider if you're willing to tolerate large swaths of the collection being "Reshelving") |
11:19 |
gsams |
jeff: That's how we handle the inventory process here, set a date, scan a section, report on the items in that section with an edit date before the scanning occured, etc. |
11:19 |
gsams |
Works well for us. |
11:21 |
gsams |
Also allows for the process to take a while, since it's based off of a date and not a status or other temporary setting. |
11:23 |
JBoyer |
jeff, that's what a few of our libraries do here, but it looks like the web client doesn't do this anymore. (it's difficult to argue that this should be changed back, it wasn't actually edited unless your view of checkin is that it's the "mark as reshelving" interface. |

JBoyer: I'm surprised that edit_date doesn't get set /because/ of the web client, I think it's more likely a coincident change ... maybe status_changed_time could be used instead |
12:04 |
jeff |
JBoyer: interesting. that makes me want to go look into that more. |
12:36 |
jeff |
I've gone back and forth on adding features to either item status or the checkin screen vs a new dedicated "scan for inventory" screen. I think avoiding item status is best, and there's benefits in being able to smoothly handle checkin of circulating items found on the shelf, etc. |
12:37 |
jeff |
But I'm not sure if this is a job for Moar Checkin Modifiers or maybe an inventory interface that reuses much of checkin. |
12:38 |
jeff |
I do like the idea of "passive" inventory for those who want to use it: a "last seen" time that updates on some/all checkin/checkout/in-house-use scans. |
12:40 |
jeff |
Actually, a last seen with user/workstation that's exposed in a useful way to staff (for "where IS this?" use), AND a last_inventoried might be good. |
12:46 |
miker |
jeff: fwiw, several years ago Equinox created a whole plan for a grown up inventory "module" ... it would track everything on tables adjacent to asset.copy, avoiding further bloat there and allowing purpose-specific reporting (not via clark) and visualization, etc |

jeff, miker, It's been some time since this issue came up and I've not been able to look into it again. With luck I'm misremembering. |
13:23 |
JBoyer |
and to jeff's point about all the checkin mods; in the half-baked inventory idea I've had in the back of my mind for the last few weeks you'd open an inventory "session" and any checkin (possibly also checkout) of any item would then count as an inventory scan because the item was in sombody's hands. |
13:24 |
JBoyer |
I consider "do I still have this item?" to be much more important than "is this item shelved correctly?" I know pages and patrons benefit the most from the second, but just the first is a big step. |
13:25 |

13:36 |
berick |
with our powers combined... |
13:38 |
jeff |
JBoyer: nope! doesn't work that way! berick is forever burdened with the sole responsibility of maintaining and answering inquiries about every interface he hath wrought. |
13:38 |
terran |
I'm trying to figure out a way to set a default patron permission group. |
13:39 |
JBoyer |
Sweet. In that case I've got some questions about why I can't enter more than 1 email when the multiple attribute is set on that field. :P |
13:39 |

It seems like I should be able to call set_profile(grp) |

13:45 |
JBoyer |
also, where are you putting that call? |
13:45 |
berick |
yeah, patch/diff would be helpful |
13:45 |
JBoyer |
(This could be generalized into a OUS (ick) and just put into the initial new user creation at line 708 of staff/circ/parton/regctl.js |
13:46 |
JBoyer |
That wouldn't be as a function call though, just a simple profile:value, in the user dictionary. |

dluch joined #evergreen |

I've tried calling it a few different places and ways and haven't seen any errors in the browser console. Most recently tried adding it to the initial button creation on line 464: ng-init="set_profile('Patrons')" |
13:50 |
berick |
terran: grp is an object, not a string |

Also tried adding it into a separate clickable link with an onclick just to try to force it |
13:50 |
terran |
Ooooh |
13:51 |
berick |
fwiw, JBoyer's suggestion is a better one than calling set_profile after the fact. |
13:52 |
berick |
hm, but that might require chagnes to copy_stage_data and copy_clone_data |
13:53 |
JBoyer |
Oh, I see. that user object shouldn't have that value set yet at that point for clone at least. (I didn't know if staged users had a profile? they likely wouldn't know what to pick) |

tspindler |
I have had some conversations with Donna Bacon from MOBIUS. Amy and I discussed some issues also with the SFC about what is needed for the transition. |
14:13 |
tspindler |
Donna is currently in contact with MOBIUS attorney to develop an agreement. |
14:15 |
tspindler |
One of the issues her attorney raised is how to have an agreement with the Evergreen Project when the Evergreen Project is not a legal entity. When I talked to her last, her attorney said he had an idea how to proceed. |
14:15 |
tspindler |
She is planning to talk to me in the next few weeks. |
14:15 |

Whatever happens, the SFC indicated they can review any agreement. |
14:16 |
tspindler |
Any questions or comments? |
14:17 |
rgagnon |
Is there something weird about having SFC review the agreement? |
14:17 |
tspindler |
Do others have concerns? |
14:17 |

I don't think so ... their only req is that we move to a 501(c)3 |
14:17 |
miker |
best case, we gain some knowledge |
14:18 |
ScottThomas |
It is a little weird, but I don't see any harm in it and, like Mike said, we may learn a few things. |
14:19 |
tspindler |
Donna was also open to the Evergreen Project becoming its own non-profit. She has been OK with contining to contract with MOBIUS for services if the Evergreen Project became its own non-profit. |
14:19 |
tspindler |
She would support this even after we have an agreement with them and work with us to make the transition. |

i'm guessing for ping you'd rather have each request wait until the response to the previous request has arrvied. |

you could consider throwing away the first result. |

what's the reason behind the "just ping once after the initial ten" behavior? looks like the end result is you send 11 pings? |
16:37 |
cesardv_ |
jeff: hmm no quite, click the "start test" button gets you the first 10, then after that clicking again just gets you one more |
16:38 |
