10:20 JBoyer Bad pun on the tea name I was randomly chosen for this morning.
10:20 JBoyer Not so much a pun I suppose. Anyway.
10:21 Dyrcona I see.... I wondered what Ardipithecus ramidus had to do with anything. :)

14:04 ohiojoe oh, I nearly forgot, I should mention that the agenda is availble at https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen-docs:dig_meeting_20170706-agenda
14:05 ohiojoe #topic Old Business
14:06 ohiojoe Previous action items.  I included the action items that came out of the Februrary meeting.  That said, that was rather a long time ago..
14:08 kmlussier Do we want to go through each of the action items to see if they still need to be done? It doesn't look like sandbergja is around to report on hers.
14:09 ohiojoe sounds like a good idea.
14:10 ohiojoe skipping to #2, Christineb you offered to add a link from the Web site's documenation page to the new playlist.  Any update?
14:10 Christineb ohiojoe - I couldn't decide where to put it so I asked the new Web team to consider options
14:11 kmlussier Christineb: Did we come to a consensus on that? I can't remember.
14:11 Christineb I will follow up with them to find out if they had a preference
14:11 Christineb kmlussier - I can't remember I was going to check the call minutes
14:11 Christineb or irc log
14:12 kmlussier OK, I'm looking too. We'll figure something out.
14:12 ohiojoe that sounds like a good plan.  lets see, I believe I should..
14:12 Christineb there was discussion about changing the list - potentially creating an Evergreen channel
14:13 Christineb currenlty the playlist is on the BC Libraries Cooperative channel so the banner and branding is Co-op specific
14:13 ohiojoe #action Christineb will follow up with web team to add a link from the web site's documenation page to the new playlist
14:13 kmlussier Christineb: Looks like the consensus was to put it in the Doc menu for now, but also that we explore other options for the future. If you need help putting it there, let me know.
14:14 Christineb https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdwlgwBNnH4riThcmOwvdLTddsn435RcJ
14:14 Christineb kmlussier - I will try and let you know
14:14 Christineb cheers
14:15 ohiojoe moving along, item 3, Everybody will send useful, Evergreen-related, Creative Commons-licensed videos to Christineb
14:15 dluch I totally forgot to send anything.  Sorry.
14:16 sandbergja joined #evergreen
14:17 remingtron sandbergja: welcome! we're having a DIG meeting, isn't that great?
14:17 sandbergja remingtron: thanks!
14:17 sandbergja sorry I'm late, everyone!
14:17 ohiojoe no worries.  please, go ahead and introduce yourself
14:18 sandbergja #info sandbergja is Jane Sandberg, Linn-Benton Community College
14:19 dluch So, Christineb, did you get any/many videos for the site?
14:20 Christineb we currently have 6 videos from 4 contributors
14:20 Christineb I believe one video was removed as it was for an older version
14:20 jweston NC Cardinal has a few tutorial videos but we are still on 2.9.  Would you want these?
14:21 kmlussier Sorry if this question has been answered in previous meetings, but are we planning to include videos just for currently-supported versions?
14:21 Christineb I'm not sure that was ever decided
14:22 Christineb this maybe a reason to consider an evergreen specific channel
14:22 Christineb then we could have multiple playlists
14:22 sandbergja It seems like weeding out old versions would be a lot of work for Christineb if the playlist grows too much
14:22 Christineb version specific, module specific etc
14:22 kmlussier Yes, it's also tricky. Reports haven't changed much in recent releases, so the intro to reports video is probably still good. Other videos may have a shorter shelflife.
14:22 jihpringle being able to have a new playlist once web client videos start coming out would probably be a good idea
14:23 Christineb it is possible for me to share a contibutor url - it allows anyone with the link the ability to add videos or remove (only ones they have added)
14:23 remingtron Christineb: sounds like a good idea, then people can simply ignore old playlists (e.g. 2.8)
14:24 kmlussier Yeah, I like the idea of an Evergreen channel with multiple playlists. A video could then be part of multiple playlists too.
14:24 dluch Yeah, I agree
14:24 jweston Me, too - - can I say "+1" - - I have always wanted to do that.
14:24 ohiojoe +1
14:25 ohiojoe that said, is anyone volunteering to set that up?
14:25 Christineb I can do it
14:25 kmlussier jweston: Yes, absolutely! +1 away! :)
14:25 sandbergja Christineb++
14:25 kmlussier Christineb++
14:25 Christineb Question - do you think it would be ok to share the account username and password on the Evergreen wiki?
14:25 ohiojoe Christineb++
14:25 kmlussier Christineb: I don't think it's a good idea.
14:25 Christineb I could create a wiki page and we could use that to write some guidelines
14:25 dluch Christineb++
14:26 Christineb ok I am ok to manage the account
14:26 kmlussier Christineb: Can the channel be administered by multiple accounts?
14:26 Christineb I will investigate
14:26 sandbergja Thanks for all your youtube work, Christineb!
14:27 Christineb our BC Libraries Cooperative channel is administered by one account but it may be possible
14:27 ohiojoe #action Christineb will setup an evergreen specific channel with specific playlist
14:27 kmlussier It looks like there is one owner, but you can have multiple managers.
14:27 Christineb ok perfect
14:28 ohiojoe looping back to previous action item 1, sandbergja, do you have anything to report on researching the state of missing RDA content from way back in Februrary?
14:29 sandbergja nope, sorry
14:29 sandbergja could you add that as an action item for me to work on for next time?
14:29 ohiojoe absolutely
14:29 ohiojoe #action sandbergja will research the state of missing RDA content
14:30 phasefx just an aside, we can partition parts of the wiki off for users with specific credentials
14:30 phasefx (he says 5 minutes later)
14:31 ohiojoe ok, it looks like pervious action item #4 pertained to either the conference or plans from back in March or April
14:32 sandbergja Yes, I think that one's old

14:32 ohiojoe #topic Progress on Web Client docs
14:32 ohiojoe (I just realized that I should have done that with the "Previous action items")
14:33 remingtron ohiojoe: you're doing great!
14:34 sandbergja agreed!
14:36 remingtron I've been reviewing the webclient wiki page
14:36 remingtron #link https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen-docs:webclient
14:37 remingtron Looks like anything marked "DONE" has been committed to the 2.12+ docs
14:37 remingtron any other links in the left-hand column are still needing review
14:40 jweston Even if the progress says "No Change", it still needs to be reviewed, correct?
14:40 dluch Okay, so, "DONE" and "NO CHANGE" are all set?  And the ones that say "New Draft" and "ready for Review", etc.?
14:41 dluch lol.  on the same wavelength as jweston...
14:41 sandbergja jweston: my understanding was that if something says "No change", it's already been reviewed
14:41 remingtron if it says "no change", that should mean "no change required", meaning it's done
14:41 dluch And if that column is totally blank, no one's reviewed it yet at all ?
14:42 remingtron correct, blank means it needs initial review
14:42 kmlussier Do you think we should schedule a couple of more web client documentation days between now and the 3.0 release?
14:42 dluch k, thx
14:42 jweston Got it.
14:43 dluch I think that would be a good idea.
14:45 jweston +1
14:45 kmlussier I could send out the Doodle poll.
14:45 kmlussier Maybe we could schedule one for August and one for September?
14:45 sandbergja kmlussier++
14:46 ohiojoe kmlussier++
14:46 ohiojoe I agree, I also think one each of the next 2 months is probably a good diea..
14:46 ohiojoe kmlussier - if you don't mind sending out a poll, I think that would be good..
14:47 kmlussier ohiojoe: Sure. Do you want to add it as an action item so I don't forget?

14:54 ohiojoe would you all like to discuss this now, or would you rather I send out another doodle poll?  I thought it was interesting to see that the winning time was the old regular date/time
14:55 sandbergja Doodle poll sounds good to me
14:55 remingtron especially for summer, Doodle poll seems good
14:55 kmlussier Oh, it is the same time. I hadn't even noticed that.
14:56 dluch Doodle poll is good.
14:58 ohiojoe #action ohiojoe will send out a doodle poll to pick a regular DIG meeting date and time
14:58 ohiojoe ok, question for you all, we are coming up on 1 hour.  do we normally soldier on or try to wrap it up?
14:59 remingtron I prefer keeping it to 1 hour
14:59 remingtron I think that has been our "normal"
15:00 jweston Newbie here - but if the next items are about progress on documentation.  Couldn't we just cover that during the web client documentation days?
15:00 sandbergja I have an announcement about ongoing business (b), but I can send that out to the email list
15:01 kmlussier +1 to wrapping up in the hour.
15:01 kmlussier We can talk about progress on documentation at the next meeting. For now, I think we should try to focus on web client documentation as much as we can.
15:01 kmlussier However, I am curious about sandbergja's announcement. :)
15:02 sandbergja kmlussier: I'm typing it up now. :-)
15:02 ohiojoe sandbergja , why if you don't mind, why do you share your announcement?  we can wrap up after that, and I'll start with ongoing business next time around

15:38 Bmagic Anyone have trouble with things being in the asset.transit_copy table, but the status of the item is not "In transit" ?
15:39 Bmagic I am trying to think of ways this is allowed to happen
15:39 kmlussier Bmagic: Canceled transits?
15:39 kmlussier Bmagic: What release are you on?
15:39 Bmagic The status of the items are all over the place. Damaged, Lost, Discard/Weed, In-Library Use
15:39 Bmagic 2.11
15:40 sandbergja joined #evergreen
15:40 Bmagic if you abort a transit on our system, the row in asset.transit_copy should be deleted
15:42 pastebot "Bmagic" at 64.57.241.14 pasted "Query to show weird transits" (11 lines) at http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/180
15:43 kmlussier Yeah, most of the situations I'm aware of where this happened were pre-2.11
15:43 Bmagic I am just wanting to explain it somehow to our staff
15:43 Bmagic I suppose they could manually change the status of an item after it had gone into transit
15:43 Bmagic is there another way?
15:49 mmorgan1 joined #evergreen
15:51 Dyrcona When a transit was aborted in the past, the copy status was set to a saved status value, IIRC.
15:52 Dyrcona And that was done regardless of the current copy status.
15:52 Dyrcona So, if the copy was checked out all kinds of fun ensued.
15:52 Dyrcona But that's about all I remember about it. I'm trying to block it out. :)
15:53 collum joined #evergreen
15:53 Bmagic haha
15:54 Dyrcona There were ways that a transit could get "stuck."
15:54 Bmagic I suppose I can just delete the rows in that table under these circumstances
15:55 Dyrcona That's probably the safest thing.
15:55 Dyrcona I used to deal with them in a similar manner.
15:55 Dyrcona I haven't had to deal with it for over a year.
15:56 Dyrcona Let me see if I have any sql or perl scripts hanging around...
16:01 Dyrcona Looks like what I do have are pretty specific to certain conditions, but I basically deleted rows from asset.hold_transit_copy when appropriate.
16:01 Dyrcona action.hold_transit_copy, sorry for the thinko.

17:00 Bmagic When the EDI mechanism FTP's a file from the Evergreen server to the vendor, can we customize the file extension to meet the vendor's requirements?
17:00 pinesol_green News from qatests: Test Success <http://testing.evergreen-ils.org/~live>
17:02 berick Bmagic: yes, somedir/*.edi (for example) should do it
17:02 Bmagic that belongs in the "out"
17:03 Bmagic Their server has a directory "in" and "out" - which I suppose is in their point of view. Therefore, "in" means incoming TO THE VENDOR. And "out" is FROM THE VENDOR
17:05 berick for delivery to the vendor: acq.edi_account.path = in/*.foo

20:29 Fr0z hello
20:30 Fr0z can i ask what is evergreen about?i read the "about" thing but i couldn't understand
20:30 Fr0z i mean,is it only to handle databases and libraries?
20:33 jonadab Fr0z: Evergreen is an integrated library system, i.e., software a library (or group of libraries) would use for all the library-specific stuff:  cataloging the collection, tracking patrons and circulation, etc.
20:33 Fr0z i wanna become a penetration tester.is everygreen a good application to start with?
20:33 Fr0z evergreen*
20:34 jonadab The catalog maybe?
20:34 Fr0z yes
20:34 jonadab I mean, I don't know that much about penetration testing.  I know what it _is_, but it's not something I've ever dabbled in.
20:35 Fr0z and one more thing :P.is it easy to handle as a newcomer?
20:35 jonadab Only if somebody else does the installation.
20:35 jonadab Installing Evergreen is more complicated than installing most software.\
20:35 Fr0z really? XD
20:35 jonadab This is improving, gradually.
20:36 Fr0z but there is a documentation about that, isn't it?
20:36 jonadab But it's still much more complicated than the typical ./configure && make && make install you see for off-the-shelf software.
20:36 jonadab Yes, there's documentation on the installation.
20:36 jonadab It's like thirty pages long.
20:36 jonadab For a reason.
20:36 Fr0z oh god
20:37 jonadab If you want something easy to install, you probably want off-the-shelf software, i.e., something way less industry-specific.  The kind of thing that's used in all kinds of offices regardless of the kind of organization or business.
20:38 jonadab Which, I mean, Evergreen depends on and uses several such packages.  Apache, ejabberd, etc.
20:40 jonadab From a security perspective, libraries are _usually_ not major targets.  I mean, we obviously have to defend against the stuff everybody has to defend against, worms, trojans, etc.
20:40 Fr0z well i just wanna create a server for all the stuff i want to learn on how to break in
20:40 Fr0z like sql, ftp, smtp and stuff like that
20:40 Fr0z i am also learning python and bash atm
20:41 jonadab I don't know if it's common for libraries to hire penetration testers.  Large library systems maybe?  Dunno.  (I work for a small library, we would never have budget for that.)
20:41 Fr0z hehe
20:41 Fr0z when we're talking about libraries are we talking about scripts and programs?
20:41 jonadab Common industry-standard off-the-shelf stuff like SQL, http, smtp, etc. is _used by_ Evergreen, but that stuff's mostly handled by other software.  Postgres, Apache, etc.
20:42 Fr0z i don't even know what you mean with off the shelf
20:42 jonadab Fr0z: In the context of Evergreen, "Libraries" means organizations that lend out books and videos and other materials to the public for free.
20:42 Fr0z oooooh
20:42 jonadab off-the-shelf means standard software that you can just install and use easily for standard stuff everybody does.
20:42 jonadab Like word processing software, web browsers, web servers, etc.
20:43 Fr0z i can see
20:43 jonadab As opposed to industry-specific software like Evergreen, or Enterprise software like Citrix.
20:43 Fr0z thank you for your assistance
20:43 Fr0z ^^
21:31 jonadab I _suppose_ I should probably not string along those fellows.  The #nethack ops generally give them just about one "You're wrong here" warning before kicking them.
21:32 jonadab (We get them a lot over there because NetHack has the word "hack" in it, which has shifted in meaning over the decades.)
