so does anyone recall why we disable the "deflate" apache module? |
09:56 |
csharp |
I ask because doing so in xenial comes up with a scary "only do this if you know what you're doing!" warning |
10:00 |
|
mmorgan joined #evergreen |
10:00 |
jeff |
does xenial explain why they have that warning? |
10:00 |
berick |
hm, my installer enables it |
10:00 |
berick |
we say to disable it? |
10:01 |

sounds vaguely familiar |

Launchpad bug 1445187 in Evergreen 2.7 "New Install mod deflate removal error message" [Undecided,Fix released] |
10:02 |
jeff |
commit 83b36a6 was perhaps the first to outright disable it |
10:02 |
pinesol_green |
jeff: [evergreen|dbs] Prevent mod_deflate from mysteriously causing problems in interfaces like Conify - <http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=commit;h=83b36a6> |
10:03 |
jeff |
but later commits have made use of it and specifically adjusted mod_deflate related settings, or disabled it only on specific locations. |

jeff: thanks for the context! |
10:04 |
csharp |
bshum: thanks for the bug reference! |
10:04 |
berick |
fwiw, i have it enabled everywhere, not aware of any current issues |
10:04 |
bshum |
csharp: Well that one is for Jessie back in the day. I wonder how Xenial's makefile is setup |
10:05 |
jeff |
all four debian-based pre-req Makefile installers appear to call a2dismod deflate |
10:05 |
jeff |
(in current master) |
10:06 |
csharp |
bshum: it pulls from Makefile.debian |
10:06 |
bshum |
Ah, gotcha then, mis-read it :) |
10:09 |
jeff |
csharp: looks like the pre-req installer calls a2dismod with -f to silence the warning -- are you getting the warning when running the pre-req makefile and can you see if it's calling a2dismod with -f? |
10:09 |
jeff |
(it's possible that a2dismod has been changed since jessie (where I just looked) to emit the warning even when -f is passed) |
10:10 |
csharp |
jeff: it's biting us in GenaSYS/our debs (where we do that kind of thing in the postinst) |
10:10 |
jeff |
we have mod_deflate disabled on our apache instances, though nginx might compress in front of that. i've not looked into it in detail recently. |
10:20 |
jeff |
csharp: to get on par with what the pre-req makefiles do, you should be able to just call a2dismod with the -f argument, but determining why we started disabling it in the first place and if any of those issues/reasons still persist might be good. |
10:22 |
csharp |
jeff: thanks |
10:23 |
bshum |
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/652343 is pretty ancient but might be pertinent |

Launchpad bug 652343 in Evergreen 2.1 "use of mod_deflate can break XMLENT" [Undecided,Fix released] |
10:23 |
bshum |
I mean for things that were broken, when |
10:23 |
bshum |
But we don't use slimpac anymore, so, haha |
10:24 |
jeff |
alas, we also don't use trac, so some of the comments in that bug lack context. |
10:26 |
csharp |
looks like tsbere's fix would solve the original problem though |
10:27 |
csharp |
it disables gzip for conify stuff, which is what appears to have been the original problem |
10:28 |
jeff |
but since many installations run with mod_deflate disabled thanks to the pre-req makefiles, the existing fix might not be as widely tested as we might hope. :-) similar to what dbs pointed out in comment 10 on that bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/652343/comments/10 |

a2dismod gained the feature of warning on "essential" modules back in 2014. the logic seems to be "we enables these by default and permit packages to use config directives from these modules without them being wrapped in an IfModule" |

Trying to put an image jacket to my record, am I doing it right? https://snag.gy/WmzZqp.jpg |
15:05 |
bshum |
Freddy_Enrique: It looks like you need to make another folder at where you are uploading, that has the bib record ID number that you're uploading for |
15:05 |
bshum |
So probably 250 should be a folder |
15:06 |
Freddy_Enrique |
Ok, let see |
15:06 |
bshum |
Upon which you move that 250-m.png in there. Also, it's a .png, but the doc says it should be .jpg file format |
15:06 |
bshum |
And that might be an issue too |
15:07 |
bshum |
You may need to convert the file image to the right format |
15:09 |
Freddy_Enrique |

15:21 |

Freddy_Enrique: Actually, looking more closely at the doc, and an actual system, your medium jacket image file should be at: /openils/var/web/opac/extras/ac/jacket/medium/r/250 |
15:21 |
mmorgan |
250 is the file name, it shouldn't be a folder. |

15:30 |

15:30 |
mmorgan |
Freddy_Enrique: Possibly you need to "Clear AddedContent Cache" when viewing the record in the staff client. |
15:32 |
Freddy_Enrique |
how can I do that mmorgan? |
15:35 |
mmorgan |
Freddy_Enrique: Looking at Opac View in the staff client, there should be a link. See: https://www.screencast.com/t/vSDY24Va |

15:49 |
Freddy_Enrique |
what was it.... |
15:49 |
Freddy_Enrique |
856? |
15:50 |
mmorgan |
856 won't give you the cover image. 856 holds a link to a remote electronic resource. |
15:51 |
jeff |
i would like to dust off some of the old ideas on that -- especially since some vendors make it common practice in their e-resource records now. |
15:51 |
Freddy_Enrique |
But this is the field where I could link the record to that external image right? |
15:56 |
mmorgan |
Freddy_Enrique: You could, but would need to click on the link to see the image. |
15:58 |
Freddy_Enrique |
oh...... I thought I could make it appear on the TPAC :( |

Guys, when I want to create a Record a couple of fields appear to be filed (until 650). I just checked the concerto record examples and have more fields than I was given. |
16:53 |

is it possible? |
16:55 |

kmlussier: or we can get rid of launchpad all together :) |
16:56 |
kmlussier |
cesardv: Yeah, now that you mention it, I don't know if I want to invest time into a LP doc page if we really are planning to leave it soon. |
16:57 |
kmlussier |
cesardv: But for now, I think the important thing to know is that when you're code is ready for testing, slap on that pullrequest tag. If more work is needed, the reviewer will probably let you know with a comment at the same time they add a needstest, needsrepatch or needsreleasenote tag. |
16:57 |
kmlussier |
But those last three tags are generally added when somebody notices there is something missing from your code. |
