09:24 kmlussier krvmga: The only emacs user I know of is Dyrcona.
09:25 krvmga kmlussier: thanks. i knew Dyrcona used it (but he's on vacation this week) :-)
09:26 krvmga i use vim all the time myself. i was wondering about people's experience with things like magit.

09:36 jeff apropos of almost nothing: looks like Evergreen 2.11 should be the last Evergreen release to claim support for Debian Wheezy
09:37 jeff (if we want to avoid the situation where we have a supported Evergreen release whose underlying Debian release is no longer supported)

13:20 Bmagic whasssup everyone, back from vaca
13:23 mmorgan Bmagic: Welcome back!
13:24 * berick waves
13:33 kmlussier Bmagic: Hello! You seem very chipper for a person who is on his first day back from vacation.
13:33 Bmagic ha!
13:33 Bmagic I'm really not, got to bed at 3am after a 14 hour drive down from the mountains of Colorado
13:35 berick crazy, just had a friend drive home 14 hrs from Maine
13:36 berick that's... a lot of podcasts :)
13:37 jeff i currently maintain an (untested) hypothesis that podcasts while driving would be a Bad Thing for me.
13:39 jeff i believe i may have conditioned myself to fall asleep to several.
13:45 Bmagic cell coverage was pretty good along I-70, so the four of us enjoyed some stand up comedy
13:45 Bmagic and two audiobooks
14:20 kmlussier @marc 240
14:20 pinesol_green kmlussier: The uniform title for an item when the bibliographic description is entered under a main entry field that contains a personal (field 100), corporate (110), or meeting (111) name. [a,d,f,g,h,k,l,m,n,o,p,r,s,6,8]
14:43 kmlussier I thought I understood biblio fingerprints, but I guess I didn't.
14:43 JBoyer kmlussier, oh?
14:44 kmlussier When creating the fingerprint, there are several fields that the title piece can be pulled from: 700t, 240a, 242a, etc.
14:44 kmlussier When the record has several of these fields, how does it determine which one to use?
14:45 JBoyer The first one it finds from each xpath, I believe.
14:46 JBoyer That's certainly how it looks, anyway.
14:47 JBoyer Are you seeing something that disagrees, or trying to add more parts to the existing fingerprint methods?
14:48 kmlussier The first one in the xpath is 700t.
14:49 kmlussier But in this record - http://bark.cwmars.org/eg/opac/record/3010707?expand=marchtml#marchtml
14:49 JBoyer And rather than waiting I just verified in our db that you're right, it's got nothing to do with the xpath order. I should check (myself before I wreck myself...) before guessing
14:49 kmlussier The fingerprint is using the 240a.
14:49 kmlussier I wonder if it's the first one in the MARC record.
14:50 kmlussier JBoyer: I had always thought it was related to the xpath order too.
14:50 JBoyer That's what my 1-record sample looks like.
14:50 kmlussier JBoyer: 1 record? I'm working with a much larger 5-record sample. :)
14:50 JBoyer Lazyness. :)
14:54 JBoyer I suppose it makes sense. The elements will be traversed in order and each time they're checked against these xpath queries that OR together a bunch of conditions. (The |'s, just like in a regular expression group.)
14:55 * kmlussier nods

16:03 tsbere Power outages, however short, can be amusing. Especially when you have the only desktop computer in the entire office on a UPS.

16:13 yboston Hello, are there any pitfalls to storing an email address in the actor.usr.usrname field? We are merging with another library, and I want to prevent username clashes. Thanks
16:21 tsbere yboston: The fact that multiple accounts share emails at times? Such as parents having their email address on all the kids cards?
16:23 yboston tsbere: we have merged with an academic library (BOston Conservatory), and I want to consider putting the full email address in the “usrname” field to make sure there are no username collisions
16:24 yboston tsbere: in case I already have username “jdoe” and they have the same username
16:24 tsbere yboston: I would be more tempted to put their primary card number in that field, personally. That can't be duped anyway. ;)
16:24 tsbere Not to mention that is kindof the default for usernames
16:25 yboston tsbere: makes sense, but our users have the expectation that they use their school issued username or full email when logging into systems
16:25 yboston tsbere: thanks for the feedback
16:26 tsbere yboston: I would recommend at least checking that the emails in the dataset are unique before you go the email route
16:26 yboston tsbere: yes, I agree
16:26 * tsbere wonders if it would make sense to enter the email addresses as cards and add ".*@.*" (or something that is a bit more comprehensive) to the "looks like a barcode" regex...
16:33 kmlussier In an academic environment, I would think the e-mail addresses are more likely to be unique than in a public environment.
16:37 jeff is there an expectation that they can change their username and/or email address? do you permit that now? would people be confused if they changed their username from one email address to another and then didn't receive emails at that "new" email address (that's set as their username)?
16:37 * jeff shrugs
16:37 jeff lots of questions. :-)
16:41 yboston it is a very rare situation that parons ask IT if they can change their usernames, suaully because of a marriage or a divorce
16:42 yboston BTW, I would be using their offical email address from the instituation the belong too (to be clear)
16:42 yboston thanks everyone, need to log off. Take care alll
