09:30 Dyrcona Ah, bash 4... You made my morning with declare -A...
09:31 Dyrcona For mapping server names to ports.
09:41 Dyrcona The only thing better would be to have it parse my ssh config....That's an exercise for another day.
09:44 Dyrcona Oops.. I forgot that... exit from a function kills the shell.
09:44 Dyrcona I want return, IIRC.

10:04 Dyrcona Bummer. You apparently cannot export a variable that was declared with -A....
10:06 Dyrcona Ah, maybe I've got it.
10:06 Dyrcona And, no....
10:09 Dyrcona Seems like a bug...
10:10 Dyrcona Oh...makes sense: There isn't really a good way to encode an array variable into the environment.

10:43 _bott_ Has anyone else ever experienced an action_trigger.event that is state='complete', but template_output=null, but there is an event_output, but the id was not stored?  I'm wondering if it's possibly a DB replication issue, but haven't found any clues.  It seems totally random.

10:48 rfrasur JBoyer, a thing came up at lunch at the SRCS training about Evergreen inventory.  I know there's been a convo in the listserv, but I have a pretty specific question if you've got the time.
10:48 JBoyer rfrasur, Fire away.
10:49 JBoyer _bott_, have you asked about this issue in-channel before? I know I've heard of it in here but I've not run into it here.
10:50 _bott_ JBoyer: I mentioned it last week, but I hadn't dug into it yet.  Now I'm finding that it is indeed an orphaned event_output, and just just a failure that isn't getting recorded as an error
10:50 _bott_ *not just
10:51 csharp _bott_: we have 619 such event rows in PINES
10:51 csharp looks like batches that didn't process correctly
10:51 rfrasur So, a library wants to go through their stacks, scan everything that's there.  Upload it into EG and have it spit back a list of things that should be there and aren't.  In my mind, that's creating a list, matching it based on some criteria to another list, and then having it return results based on some other criteria.  Is that a full-on development thing or something that could be scripted, etc?
10:51 _bott_ csharp: my misery appreciates your company
10:52 csharp (meaning that groups of them all occurred on the same date)
10:52 csharp _bott_: that seems to be our role for each other ;-)

10:53 miker rfrasur: there are lots of details between A and C there, and ESI outlined a plan to create a full-on inventory system, but funding (or will) has not materialized.  rhamby knows of what I speak quite well :)
10:54 rfrasur miker, good to note.  Is that plan available to look at?  or was it a confidential thing?  or what?
10:54 _bott_ Yesterday afternoon, 11 po's activated, all but 3 were just fine, but the other 3 ended up with orphaned POJEDI outputs, event_def 23 seems particularly susceptible to this
10:54 rhamby rfrasur: there is a ton more than be automated and a lot done to make lives easier.  miker, myself and I think it was senator hased up a pretty darn good plan a few years ago
10:54 * rfrasur never knows when toes are going to get stepped on and has two left feet.
10:54 csharp rfrasur: this may help? http://pines.georgialibraries.org/inventory
10:55 rhamby I still think it's a good plan and would work really well in the web based staff client

10:56 rfrasur_ Ugh, pardon.
10:56 csharp rfrasur_: did you see my last comment?
10:56 csharp 10:54 < csharp> rfrasur: this may help? http://pines.georgialibraries.org/inventory
10:56 rfrasur_ I did.  Thank you.  That's helpful to an extent.  We did talk about workflows.
10:56 csharp good ;-)
10:57 rfrasur_ But, they defined what they want the workflow to be.  Scan in, upload, get results.
10:57 miker rfrasur: :) ... I'm happy to talk about the rough outlines, and we could circulate the plan to folks interested in moving forward, but can't send detailed plans generally
10:57 csharp yeah...
10:58 rfrasur_ miker, let's hold off just a little.  I think I, as one lone library director have expressed interest, and will go through the channels and see where it goes.
10:58 JBoyer rfrasur_, You've already gotten fuller answers than I'd have, but yes, what they want == dev == $$.
10:58 csharp rfrasur_: we also have a requirements doc that was created several years ago that we're willing to share (may or may not be incorporated into ESI's outline)
10:58 rfrasur_ jboyer, okay, so that gives me that piece of info.
10:58 JBoyer If EI were part of the MLEDI (my acronymizer may have lost some letters...) that would be a good use of time/funds. ;)
10:58 rfrasur_ csharp, would you mind sharing that?
10:59 csharp rfrasur_: I'll dig it up and send it
10:59 rfrasur_ JBoyer, august meeting
10:59 * rfrasur_ is officially out of that loop for awhile at least.
11:00 rfrasur_ But you know my thoughts on the development co-op.
11:01 kmlussier JBoyer: I hate the fact that EDI appears in that acronym.
11:01 * kmlussier has been tempted to use it a few times, but the EDI always scares her off.
11:01 JBoyer kmlussier, agreed.
11:01 kmlussier rfrasur_: The project rogan and miker referred to has a rough outline in this e-mail thread. http://markmail.org/message/l2zd6volsmbwz46g
11:02 rfrasur_ I thankfully don't know enough about EDI to be afraid.
11:02 rfrasur_ kmlussier, thank you.
11:03 * csharp shudders at mention of EDI
11:03 miker kmlussier: thanks for digging that up! :)
11:03 rfrasur_ Okay, that's exactly what we'd be talking about then.

11:14 Dyrcona Functional programming in bash for the win! ;)
11:14 Dyrcona So, I solved my not able to export the array in bash by writing a function to initialize the array and lookup values in it.

14:07 Dyrcona Hmm. Was there a public git branch for the C/W MARS circulation customizations? I seem to recall it being mentioned, but that was a couple of years ago, and my git fu is failing me.

14:17 hbrennan Has anyone used Evergreen's SMS capabilities to push texts other than ILS circ/hold info? Such as early literacy tips?
14:20 jeff Why would you need to send those through the ILS?
14:20 jeff Also, would they be bulk or individualized in some way?
14:21 jeff Would you be sending them to a lot of patrons at once, or upon request, or?
14:21 hbrennan Bulk
14:21 hbrennan Yeah, there would have to be an opt-in process
14:21 hbrennan http://www.slj.com/2015/07/feature-articles/texting-1-2-3-brooklyn-public-library-messages-parents-to-get-kids-kindergarten-ready/#_
14:21 hbrennan This sparked the idea
14:21 hbrennan But it sounds like a third party service would work better
14:21 jeff email-to-SMS gateways like Evergreen currently uses are a terrible way to send bulk SMS. They're barely suitable for the current purposes.
14:21 hbrennan Ha
14:22 jeff Third party service (either specific to this kind of messaging, or an API like Twilio) is going to likely be a better idea.
14:22 jeff Depending on volume, you can do it without a shortcode.
14:22 hbrennan Figured. But had to ask in case someone has hacked evg to work
14:23 jeff If you have a large enough volume that you need a shortcode, you're going to want to go through a service where you're sharing a shortcode with others -- or get a grant to pay for the shortcode. :P
14:23 jeff And in general for that kind of thing I'd recommend opting in via SMS.
14:24 hbrennan Considering our summer reading program is only at 420 participants, this type of bulk messaging wouldn't be too large
14:24 jeff As opposed to opting in by saying "this is my phone number". At a minimum, confirmation would be something I'd strongly recommend -- you could have two paths, one where there's a confirmation step and one where it's initiated via SMS, making the confirmation step less critical.
14:26 hbrennan As someone who just received a "we're worried about you" text from my former dentist, I'm a huge proponent for opt in only
14:28 hbrennan Thanks for the input (on non-evergreen subject) Above and beyond! jeff++
14:32 jeff Yeah, you'll probably want to use a third party service that will let you send from a (shared) shortcode.
14:32 jeff And opt-in will likely be via SMS.
14:32 jeff "Send READ to [digits]", etc.
14:33 gsams joined #evergreen
14:33 hbrennan That avoids any messiness, which is good
14:35 jeff looks like the one company that i knew of that catered to libraries in this space has been acquired and possibly abandoned. oh well.
14:36 jeff nothing too library-specific about this one. shop around, look for reviews, etc. :-)
14:36 hbrennan Yeah, that article I shared mentions free services but doesn't name
14:36 jeff and, re-check that SMS is a good method for what you want to do. :-)
14:36 jeff i would avoid a "free" service.
14:36 jeff that sounds like a terrible idea.
14:36 hbrennan Quick search shows Teleflip, txtDrop, etc... but seem to be geared for people trying to avoid text fees
14:37 jeff a good way to get your patrons a lot of SMS spam, etc.
14:37 hbrennan Yup
14:37 Stompro Anyone a ACQ guru here?  Is it strange that none of our invoices are ever marked completed?  Also, I would assume that the actual costs from an invoice would show up in the fund debits screen, but only the processing charges show there... unless I'm looking at the wrong thing.
14:37 hbrennan I'll stop junking up the channel with this idea. But thanks again jeff!
14:39 _bott_ csharp: I have a theory about the orphans...
14:39 jeff the shortcodes required to send bulk messages of this nature run about $3,000 per quarter, so i would expect to pay a company for the use of theirs, not get it free. :-)
14:39 jeff hbrennan: you're welcome!
14:40 _bott_ keep your eye on the template_output.  These logs lines are sequential, albeit all noted at the same second.  http://pastie.org/pastes/10908383/text
14:42 _bott_ I added a trigger to prevent template_output from being updated from a non-null to a null.
14:42 _bott_ ...hoping those should not occur naturally
14:43 JBoyer I do enjoy a good condition.race
14:46 mmorgan Stompro: I'm certainly not a guru, but I can see in our database that we have a whole bunch of invoices where complete = TRUE
14:48 Stompro mmorgan, any idea of what process marks an invoice complete?
14:49 * mmorgan channels a coworker versed in acq
14:50 mmorgan When you click the "Close" button, the invoice is marked complete.
14:51 Stompro mmorgan... sigh, I think we were instructed to always click save & clear, which moves on to a new blank invoice.
14:52 mmorgan I'm told you have to click the close button. Save and clear doesn't close.
