zgrep a 16GB file compressed to 1.6GB and watch your terminal become unresponsive... |

Vendor email: "There is no reason these [devices] will not work." A depressing lack of imagination in this one. |

JBoyer: I hate responses like that. I find it is more likely that the vendor doesn't have said devices in their list of "things that don't work with us" when I get a response like that. |
11:31 |
tsbere |
Whether or not the device should be in that list or the "does work with us" list is yet to be determined |
11:40 |
JBoyer |
I give them some leeway because English is a second language, but telling the devices there's no reason they shouldn't work hasn't helped so far. |

so I have a library deleting patrons, no transactions open, and they occasionally get "The user you have attempted to delete cannot be deleted because it has open circulations and/or unpaid bills." |
12:29 |
gsams |
Patron has no items or open bills |
12:29 |
tsbere |
gsams: $0 owed but no xact_finish transactions is my guess |
12:30 |
gsams |
I took a look at the circulation table and one transaction stood out. It didn't have an xact_finish set. |
12:30 |
gsams |
tsbere: Yeah that is more or less what I'm seeing. |
12:30 |
bshum |
There used to be old bugs in earlier Evergreen versions where the xact_finish didn't get set right. |
12:31 |
bshum |
Even if you've upgraded past the bug, the xacts might still linger and cause that problem for users when you go to purge them |
12:31 |
gsams |
I'm not sure how far back the bug was, we are still on 2.7.3 (upgrade soon to be in the works.) |
12:32 |

Like forever, I'm thinking like 2.0 era |

xact_finisher could probalby use a sanity check for checkin_time, or even use the checkin_time for the xact_finish, instead of now. |

Deleting patrons!!! Just mark them inactive. Cleaner that way imo. Speaking of which... |

hmm, INSERT INTO biblio.record_entry for a MARC record containing a diacritic works in PG 9.4 on trusty, but fails on maintain_control_numbers with "Cannot decode string with wide characters at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.22/Encode.pm line 241" in PG 9.4 on xenial. |
