07:15 kmlussier Yes, I often find that clear skies are rather manly.

08:50 csharp wow - looks like a full house for the hackaway, kmlussier!
08:50 * csharp just saw the added entries to http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=hack-a-way-2015-agenda
08:50 kmlussier :)
08:51 kmlussier Some of the NOBLE folks may be coming and going during the event, but I know several of them are interested in working on course reserves during the week.
08:51 * mmorgan may need to start brewing the coffee now
08:51 csharp mmorgan++
08:53 kmlussier Also, I invited kenstir, who has been working on bug 1506207. He's local, so I thought it would be a good opportunity for him to meet other devs from the community. And maybe we can make the app more generic for other eg sites. :)
08:53 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1506207 in Evergreen "Android app for Evergreen" [Wishlist,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1506207 - Assigned to Ken Cox (kenstir)
08:54 csharp awesome!
08:55 Dyrcona I won't be there, but I might see if I can make in on Wednesday.
08:55 csharp Dyrcona: hope you can ;-)
08:58 Dyrcona My wife has a retreat with other teachers from her school on Thursday night through Friday, so I'm taking the days off.
09:02 csharp ah - understood

09:12 Dyrcona I'm not going on the retreat, of course. I'm staying home because our daughter won't have school on Friday and will only have a half day on Thursday.
09:17 * gmcharlt tosses out #evghack15 as a suggested hashtag for the hack-a-way
09:18 jeff less tweeting, more hacking!
09:18 gmcharlt no hacking in a vacuum! ;)
09:19 jeff :-)

09:38 Dyrcona Alway good with opensrf.math add 2,2 tells you the response is 4.
09:39 gmcharlt Dyrcona: has it every done otherwise for you? ;)
09:39 Dyrcona Once in a while it says whatever it says when the service is not running. :)
09:40 tsbere gmcharlt: No response, error response, and I once got it to answer with a hash ref instead of a number.
09:40 gmcharlt boring; just once it would be nice if it were to connect with an OpenSRF stack running in a different universe with different laws of arithmetic!
09:40 * Dyrcona is starting Movember/NaNoWriMo with a fresh vm.
09:41 * Dyrcona wishes he could write fiction as easily as he writes code.
09:44 Dyrcona I often threaten myself with writing software to write fiction.
09:44 gmcharlt well, there's the whole Literate Programming thing
09:44 jeff Dyrcona: I've pondered entering a poetry contest using a markov chain generated from past published winners of said contest.
09:44 gmcharlt and heck, code as a literary genre, while it's inspired things like Perl poetry, is underdeveloped
09:45 Dyrcona jeff++ gmcharlt++
09:45 Dyrcona Yep, on both counts.
09:46 Dyrcona jeff: BTW, https://github.com/Dyrcona/markov
09:46 jeff first I'd like to finish work on a bot to read my mail from other bots.
09:46 Dyrcona heh.
09:47 Dyrcona My daughter thought it was fun to run Through the Looking Glass and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland through a Markov chain.
09:47 jeff email is a de facto notification channel for many things, but especially since much of this is "warn me when you DON'T get one of these" or "warn me when it contains something other than THIS", I really think a script would be more appropriate.
09:48 Dyrcona Yep. Icinga sends me a text for the truly important stuff. :)
09:48 Dyrcona One vendor sends us an email when a new batch of records is ready to load.
09:49 Dyrcona I thought asking them to send it to a new email address that will run a program to download the records and load them into Evergreen automatically.
09:49 Dyrcona Gee, I can see it's gonna be one of those days, where I words. ;)
09:49 * jeff reads the post-mortem/apology from a phone vendor
09:49 jeff nope, nothing interesting.
09:50 jeff sometimes postmortems are entertaining, educational, or both. this was not one of those post-mortems.
09:51 jeff unless you want to take the lesson of "sometimes outages have mundane causes like 'failure to handle increased load'. don't forget the simple stuff when doing whatever risk analysis you do."
09:51 Dyrcona Interesting, two people have forked my Markov code.
09:52 Dyrcona We currently have an email outage because, main hard drive on the server filled up.

12:18 tizwoz Is there a recommended Linux Server distro recommended for the database?
12:21 gmcharlt tizwoz: Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora all have current support; most folks use a Debian or Ubuntu
12:23 tizwoz Thank you.  When you say "current support", are you referring to support from Evergreen techs?
12:24 gmcharlt community support from folks currently using Evergreen (and there being folks sending in patches to keep per-distro stuff up to date)
12:26 tizwoz That's very useful.  Will take a look at those distros again.  Thanks.
12:26 mixo I've created user as cilculator
12:27 mixo and when i try to login to server with staff client I get permission denied message
12:27 mixo view_billing_type, perission denied

12:32 csharp mixo: make sure your user has the right working location - you can set that within the user account -> Other -> User Permission Editor - just check the box by the branch that owns the workstation

13:02 jeff jboyer-isl++ for the "de-tangle shared addresses" script at https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/885270/comments/8
13:02 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 885270 in Evergreen "Delete User Aborts on Shared Address" [Medium,Confirmed]

14:24 csharp jeff: yeah, that helped us too :-)

14:25 jeff modified to only affect one home_ou, ran a quick check to see if we could skip the "two different addresses" part (we could).
14:49 berick wondering if it would make sense to put canonical URL's in our TPAC record detail pages that point to the same pages in our external catalog (bibliocommons).
14:49 berick they're not the same pages, of course, but the content is mostly the same
14:50 berick and ideally the googs would send traffic to the external catalog (since that's what patrons use)
14:50 gmcharlt doesn't seem unreasonable if you've got crawls going at the TPAC
14:50 gmcharlt *crawlers
14:51 gmcharlt curious: BiblioCommons embed any semantic markup?
14:51 berick gmcharlt: just about deploy bug #1330784 in fact
14:51 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1330784 in Evergreen "Evergreen needs automated sitemap generation" [Wishlist,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1330784
14:52 berick gmcharlt: i know they have work in progress, but i'm not sure what's actually done yet
14:53 * berick reads bug #1406451
14:53 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1406451 in Evergreen "Discoverability: apply rel=canonical to record detail and library pages" [Undecided,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1406451
15:15 dbs berick: huh, normally canonical is all about stripping off query params and the like to present one clean view
15:15 dbs saying the canonical URL for cat.foo.com/eg/opac/1 should be cat.bar.com/1 (cross domain) seems weird, but never really thought about it
15:16 berick dbs: yeah, that was my concern. it's not quite what it's for
15:22 dbs It's all snake oil!
15:23 dbs Bibliocommons embeds OpenGraph Protocol (Facebook) and Twitter card metadata in <head>
15:29 dbs I could see cat.foo.com -> cat.bibliocommons.com, I guess. Worth a try! But holy crap are you ever locked into bibliocommons after that... :)
15:29 dbs @who has all the google juice?
15:29 pinesol_green phasefx has all the google juice.
15:30 dbs Those quiet types, always so powerful
15:30 berick https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1716747?hl=en suggests cross-domain is OK.
15:30 berick may be some locale issues to contend with
15:31 dbs nice
15:31 * phasefx had the google juice, but they deprecated and removed it to better focus on other stuff
15:59 Stompro What term would be used in permissions for items that have to do with damaged materials?  I cannot find anything that has to do with marking damaged in 950.data.seed-values.sql.
16:01 mmorgan Stompro: I have MARK_ITEM_DAMAGED
16:01 berick and that's what the code appears to be looking for
16:02 berick hm, not seeing that in the seed data either
16:03 mmorgan Odd. I don
16:03 mmorgan oops.
16:04 mmorgan I don't remember adding that, but it has id 1044 in our db.
16:04 Stompro I wonder what happened to it?
16:05 Stompro I'll create a bug report and add it manually.
16:05 mmorgan That high an id suggests that it was added to our db at some point.
16:05 dbs Perhaps it was marked as damaged and removed
16:05 * berick chuckles
16:05 mmorgan Heh.
16:05 berick don't see it in any version upgrades, etc.  probably never existed
16:05 Stompro Secret permissions are the best permissions.
16:06 * gmcharlt is a big fan of the OPEN_NECRONOMICON permission
16:06 gmcharlt wait... I may have said too much
16:07 dbs Feel free to open it. Just don't read it out loud
16:07 * mmorgan sees a number of permissions with ids higher than 1000 in our db. If those also don't exist in the seed data, should I add them on to Stompro's soon to exist bug?
16:08 berick mmorgan: depends.  some may be local only, particularly for things like perms to create user's in custom groups
16:08 Stompro I think there are several bugs open right now about missing permissions.
16:08 gmcharlt i.e., group_application.user.*
16:09 mmorgan berick: Yeah. I have added those, but I also have added, for example ITEM_DEPOSIT_PAID.override, ITEM_DEPOSIT_REQUIRED.override
16:10 mmorgan possibly a few others, too.
16:10 berick mmorgan: yeah, those should probably be bugged
16:11 Dyrcona EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE
16:12 mmorgan Dyrcona: Where's the challeng in that? ;-)
16:12 Stompro mmorgan, lp 1456301 might be a good spot to add those to.
16:12 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1456301 in Evergreen "No permission in permission.perm_list that give permission to override ITEM_DEPOSIT_REQUIRED" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1456301
16:14 mmorgan ok, I'll see what else I've added and visit launchpad.
16:14 mmorgan Stompro++
17:06 mmorgan left #evergreen
17:57 kmlussier I probably won't be here in the morning since I'll be embarking on day 2 of jlitrell's crazy tour of the MassLNC consortia offices, so I'm stopping in tonight to wish everyone a happy travels as they make their way to Mass. tomorrow.
