dbwells: Do you have time for a quick question regarding your implementation of Syrup? |
09:22 |
dbwells |
sure |
09:23 |
kmlussier |
What version of OpenSRF are you running with Syrup? Is it 2.4? |
09:24 |
dbwells |
I'll have to check, one moment. |
09:27 |
dbwells |
It looks like we're still on 2.3. |
09:28 |
kmlussier |
dbwells: OK, thanks. I know we've had trouble moving it to the most recent version of OpenSRF, so I was curious to see if anyone else had done it. |
09:29 |
dbwells |
kmlussier: that's interesting. What kind of errors are you seeing? |
09:29 |
kmlussier |
dbwells: I don't know the specifics. |

Good morning everyone, can someone tell me if the Library Setting about targeting copies at a branch that is closed, takes note of both actor.org_unit_closed and actor.hours_of_operation closed days? |

I think it's just closed dates, but I don't know for sure |

Cool thing about the delivery company using SIP2 to get item information is I can check when they scanned the things that are coming to me, so I can guess when I might get them. |

11:22 |
kmlussier |
Dyrcona: hmmm...could we use that information to add a "arrived at sort facility" date in my account? |
11:23 |
Dyrcona |
kmlussier: Possibly, but it might cause problems later when the thing doesn't show up. An alarming number of items disappear in transit. |
11:23 |
Dyrcona |
Items often get scanned more than once at the facility, too. |
11:23 |
kmlussier |
Dyrcona: Yes, but we already have the problem where a patron sees that it has gone in transit and then the item doesn't show up. |
11:24 |
Dyrcona |
kmlussier: True. |
11:25 |
kmlussier |
So have a "track your hold" function and see the date it was put into transit, the date it arrives at the sort facility, and then the date it arrives at the library. Once the system gets the "arrive at sort facility" date, it doesn't update again when it's re-scanned. |
11:25 |
* kmlussier |
prefers contemplating fun new features to the work she is supposed to be doing right now. |
11:26 |
tsbere |
kmlussier: I wonder if attaching "Last Seen" dates to transits would work better, then feed the "was scanned by the delivery company" info into that. |
11:27 |
tsbere |
(rather than limiting to holds only and all, given that "return to library" transits often have similar, though less noticeable, issues) |
11:28 |
kmlussier |
I think "last seen" would be more useful to staff than to users. I guess I could see both features being useful for different reasons. |
11:28 |
kmlussier |
What I think would really make the holds tracking feature useful is if there was a scan that happened as the item was being put on a truck, and that there was a way to distinguish that scan from the others. |
11:29 |
kmlussier |
I know that doesn't happen, but I think it would be great if people could see "being delivered to your library today!" |
11:29 |
kmlussier |
Of course, some of those losses probably happen between the sort facility and the destination. |

So, re: bug 1438136, it looks like there's now something to look into for Subject searches. The only bib searches that show up in our pgbadger logs are subject searches that all take around 1.5 minutes and are the only queries that cause any temp tables. (And they're all for United States, like, every day.) |

Launchpad bug 1438136 in Evergreen 2.8 "OPAC searching significantly slowed by adding format filters" (affected: 4, heat: 20) [High,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1438136 |

(I'm not saying it's the same problem, just the next step in boosting search speed) |
14:23 |
kmlussier |
jboyer-isl: Hmmm...I just did a subject search, and it didn't seem to be too bad. Do they tend to be broad subjects? |

Actually, I just tried 'history'. That one took a while. |
14:25 |
jboyer-isl |
kmlussier: I need to do some testing to figure out what's what. They do appear to be limited to specific locations vs a full consortium search, etc. Every example I've seen so far has always been United States though. |
