09:22 kmlussier dbwells: Do you have time for a quick question regarding your implementation of Syrup?
09:22 dbwells sure
09:23 kmlussier What version of OpenSRF are you running with Syrup? Is it 2.4?
09:24 dbwells I'll have to check, one moment.
09:27 dbwells It looks like we're still on 2.3.
09:28 kmlussier dbwells: OK, thanks. I know we've had trouble moving it to the most recent version of OpenSRF, so I was curious to see if anyone else had done it.
09:29 dbwells kmlussier: that's interesting.  What kind of errors are you seeing?
09:29 kmlussier dbwells: I don't know the specifics.
09:30 * Dyrcona is working on blog/email about 2.9-beta release.
09:30 kmlussier But maybe I can look at it a little more closely when I return from vacation.

10:28 Stompro Good morning everyone, can someone tell me if the Library Setting about targeting copies at a branch that is closed, takes note of both actor.org_unit_closed and actor.hours_of_operation closed days?
10:29 csharp I think it's just closed dates, but I don't know for sure
10:31 kmlussier Dyrcona: Do have credentials to post to the community blog?
10:31 Dyrcona I have no idea, so I doubt it.
10:32 Dyrcona My blog is picked up by planet.evergreen, though.
10:32 kmlussier Dyrcona: I can do that for you. I don't know when previous RM's have posted to the community blog, but definitely by the general release something should be posted there.
10:33 kmlussier Or maybe somebody can do it on your behalf.
10:45 csharp Dyrcona++ # 2.9-beta yay!
10:45 csharp everybody_else++
10:45 Dyrcona everybody_else++
10:45 Dyrcona I couldn't have done it without everyone else.
10:46 berick heh, should teach pinesol_green to give everyone (with karm) a +1 when that happens
10:46 berick Dyrcona++
10:48 csharp time to blow the dust off the trusty ol' PINES upgrade plan and re-tool it for 2.9
10:49 kmlussier Dyrcona++
10:49 berick we upgraded to 2.5 last month :)  already planning the 2.7 upgrade, though.  we'll get caught up...
10:50 kmlussier berick: That's awesome!
10:50 * jeff mentally pictures csharp going through a upgrade survival kit contents check with PINES admins, a la Dr Strangelove
10:50 dbwells Dyrcona++
10:50 kmlussier berick: What release were you on before the 2.5 upgrade?
10:51 berick kmlussier: 2.4, but on a different repository structure.  so, part of the 2.5 upgrade was get everything back into a clone of the Evergreen repo
10:52 kmlussier berick: So upgrades should be easy peasy from here on out, right? :)
10:52 berick kmlussier: exactly!
10:53 dbwells I figured you guys were up to 5.7 or so, and decided to come back and help us all out ;)
10:54 berick well, 5.7 does have great stuff in it.
10:54 kmlussier berick: Coffee?
10:54 berick i mean /will/ have.  i've said too much.
10:55 berick espresso!
10:57 Dyrcona "We cannot allow an upgrade gap!"
10:58 jeff Upgrade survival kit contents check. In them you'll find: one sixty-four gigabyte flash drive; ...; one miniature combination OpenSRF phrase book and IDL; one hundred dollars in bitcoin; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; [...]. Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend at DEFCON with all that stuff.
10:58 jeff Dyrcona++
10:59 berick jeff: you forgot the flash card reading, "did you try restaring apache?"
10:59 Dyrcona Just throwing this out there: https://gist.github.com/Dyrcona/a6de1cff655ecc4ca76c
10:59 Dyrcona @dunno
10:59 pinesol_green Dyrcona: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
10:59 * Dyrcona wonders if who works in dunnos.
11:00 jeff pinesol_green is nothing if not a fan of kubrick
11:00 pinesol_green jeff: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)
11:00 pinesol_green jeff: Leave me alone, I'm busy right now.
11:00 * jeff batch loads some genre tags pulled from TMDb
11:02 berick pinesol_green only drinks rain water
11:02 pinesol_green berick: did you finish your beer?
11:02 pinesol_green berick: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)
11:03 * Dyrcona is a fan of Kubrick.

11:08 Dyrcona Heh. So, I open my patron account in the staff client to check on the status of a hold.
11:09 Dyrcona I expired yesterday.
11:12 jeff one of our circ staff used to joke about that with patrons.
11:12 jeff "oh no."
11:12 jeff "i'm not sure how to say this, but it says here that you're... expired."
11:12 jeff he has since retired.
11:13 Dyrcona heh
11:20 Dyrcona Cool thing about the delivery company using SIP2 to get item information is I can check when they scanned the things that are coming to me, so I can guess when I might get them.
11:21 ningalls joined #evergreen
11:22 kmlussier Dyrcona: hmmm...could we use that information to add a "arrived at sort facility" date in my account?
11:23 Dyrcona kmlussier: Possibly, but it might cause problems later when the thing doesn't show up. An alarming number of items disappear in transit.
11:23 Dyrcona Items often get scanned more than once at the facility, too.
11:23 kmlussier Dyrcona: Yes, but we already have the problem where a patron sees that it has gone in transit and then the item doesn't show up.
11:24 Dyrcona kmlussier: True.
11:25 kmlussier So have a "track your hold" function and see the date it was put into transit, the date it arrives at the sort facility, and then the date it arrives at the library. Once the system gets the "arrive at sort facility" date, it doesn't update again when it's re-scanned.
11:25 * kmlussier prefers contemplating fun new features to the work she is supposed to be doing right now.
11:26 tsbere kmlussier: I wonder if attaching "Last Seen" dates to transits would work better, then feed the "was scanned by the delivery company" info into that.
11:27 tsbere (rather than limiting to holds only and all, given that "return to library" transits often have similar, though less noticeable, issues)
11:28 kmlussier I think "last seen" would be more useful to staff than to users. I guess I could see both features being useful for different reasons.
11:28 kmlussier What I think would really make the holds tracking feature useful is if there was a scan that happened as the item was being put on a truck, and that there was a way to distinguish that scan from the others.
11:29 kmlussier I know that doesn't happen, but I think it would be great if people could see "being delivered to your library today!"
11:29 kmlussier Of course, some of those losses probably happen between the sort facility and the destination.
11:30 * kmlussier returns to her more important work now.

14:07 pdot hey everyone, I've just noticed a 500 server error in my evergreen 2.8 client. which log file should I start with?
14:07 pdot assuming somewhere in /openils/var/log/
14:10 phasefx pdot: your apache error log may have something useful
14:10 rjackson_isl joined #evergreen
14:10 Dyrcona pdot: There should be information in the Apache logs. That is where I would start, because it will should give you some information to start looking through osrfsys.log.
14:13 pdot ah, excellent, checking apache now
14:14 rjackson_isl joined #evergreen
14:15 pdot restarted apache2, all is well (until next time) pretty sure it was vsphere migration related.
14:18 jboyer-isl So, re: bug 1438136, it looks like there's now something to look into for Subject searches. The only bib searches that show up in our pgbadger logs are subject searches that all take around 1.5 minutes and are the only queries that cause any temp tables. (And they're all for United States, like, every day.)
14:18 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1438136 in Evergreen 2.8 "OPAC searching significantly slowed by adding format filters" (affected: 4, heat: 20) [High,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1438136
14:19 jboyer-isl (I'm not saying it's the same problem, just the next step in boosting search speed)
14:23 kmlussier jboyer-isl: Hmmm...I just did a subject search, and it didn't seem to be too bad. Do they tend to be broad subjects?
14:24 kmlussier Actually, I just tried 'history'. That one took a while.
14:25 jboyer-isl kmlussier: I need to do some testing to figure out what's what. They do appear to be limited to specific locations vs a full consortium search, etc. Every example I've seen so far has always been United States though.
14:25 * kmlussier nods
14:25 Dyrcona Sounds to me like a different bug.
14:25 kmlussier jboyer-isl: That's a common search I do to pull back a large result set.
14:27 jboyer-isl Dyrcona: Yes, I meant next step as in "here's the next slow thing to look at," not "here's another problem with common attributes" I wasn't very clear about that.

15:03 pinesol_green kmlussier: well, that's what you get for not being a shell script
15:03 pinesol_green kmlussier: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)
15:04 kmlussier Dyrcona: I think it's only stuck on beer when it's talking to you.
15:04 kmlussier Which is how it should be.
15:04 Dyrcona I think it asked berick or csharp that question earlier, too.

15:06 pinesol_green berick: Have you confirmed your ISBN SPIDs with your service provider?
