08:35 Dyrcona Hmm. Our new cron job to restart the SIPServer every morning isn't working.
08:36 Dyrcona It works if I run it outside of cron on the command line, but not from cron.
08:36 Dyrcona Nothing looks amiss in the crontab, either.

08:40 Dyrcona And, the correct crontab is installed.....
08:42 Dyrcona cron is running.

08:53 krvmga in the staff client, looking at coded value maps for search formats, where does "Code" come from?
08:54 dbwells Dyrcona: environment variable issue?
08:54 Dyrcona dbwells: I don't think so, 'cause everything is defaulted in oils_ctl.sh and we're using the defaults.
08:55 dbwells I've got nothing else
08:55 Dyrcona Yeah, me neither. :(
08:56 Dyrcona It looks like it isn't being run at all, 'cause there's no message that it failed being emailed and no file.
08:56 kmlussier krvmga: The code is whatever code you want to give to the map you just created.
08:56 Dyrcona tsbere added a redirect of standard out to a file yesterday.
08:56 kmlussier krvmga: If it's being created for icons, you also want to make sure that the name of the icon file matches the code.

09:12 rfrasur csharp: Are you about?
09:18 bshum @roulette
09:18 pinesol_green *BANG* Hey, who put a blank in here?!
09:18 * pinesol_green reloads and spins the chambers.
09:19 rfrasur lol, silly bot.  Roulette, by it's nature includes blanks and/or empty chambers.  Why so surprised?
09:21 bshum rfrasur: if the bot had admin powers for the channel, those turn live and it kicks people.
09:22 rfrasur That's kinda funny.  I'd chuckle.
09:23 krvmga i added the search format filter coded value maps but they don't show up in the format dropdown in search. did i miss a step?
09:24 kmlussier Is that something that requires an apache restart?
09:24 kmlussier Also, make sure you've cleared the cache.
09:24 kmlussier @coffee
09:24 * pinesol_green brews and pours a cup of Rusty's Hawaiian Red Caturra Natural, and sends it sliding down the bar to kmlussier

09:25 rfrasur Hmm, that reminds me.  Coffee.  Coffee heals the wounded and fatigued soul.
09:26 kmlussier rfrasur: Coffee is magical
09:29 rfrasur It is.  It really is.
09:35 * bshum can't remember if reingest is also required before searches for new filters work.
09:36 kmlussier bshum: If it's a new record attribute, it would require reingest. But if it's a CVM using an existing attribute, I don't think it would be required.
09:37 krvmga i'm using existing attributes.
09:37 bshum Ah right

09:44 kmlussier Ha ha. It looks like rfrasur is giving RoganH karma for leaving the channel. :D

09:45 kmlussier Yeah, I figured it was something else.
09:46 rfrasur kmlussier: do you know anyone that originally worked on the Evergreen logo and might know about the font?
09:47 kmlussier rfrasur: No, I haven't been around that long.
09:47 rfrasur I'll track someone down....maybe?

09:53 jeff Stompro: Overall, I like Jaspersoft Studio a bit better than iReport. iReport is dead to Jaspersoft, it seems.
09:54 jeff of course, i'm still running 5.6.2... need to upgrade.
09:54 rfrasur jeff: just fyi, there's ONE portal within five miles of my house.
09:55 jeff rfrasur: start submitting! :-)
09:56 jeff rfrasur: with any luck, given their approval process, by this time next decade there could be TWO!
09:56 rfrasur jeff: Maybe...but I need less head clutter to figure it out to a real comfort level.
09:56 jeff rfrasur: joking aside, finding existing portals would probably be more productive and an easier start to things than trying to submit and wait on approvals.
09:56 rfrasur jeff: But...I will say that I'd submit way better ones than the one that exists.  It's a mechanics garage.
09:57 rfrasur jeff: oh yeah.  I'd def start just playing before submitting.

10:02 Stompro Jeff, III-- requires that we use ireport version 4.0.2 for Millennium, which requires JRE 7, sigh.  Of course Millennium-- still uses JRE 6.  They really suck at keeping up to date.
10:05 jeff Stompro: *cringe*
10:06 rfrasur How does that even make sense?  It sounds like they broke their own stuff.
10:06 * rfrasur is clueless of such things.
10:08 Dyrcona rfrasur: That happens a lot in the commercial world of Java development.
10:08 rfrasur Dyrcona: I suspect this is obvious, but that's seriously idiotic.
10:09 rfrasur And if you're gonna charge someone the cost of a house for a product...shouldn't you support it correctly?
10:09 rfrasur (a fairly decent house)
10:09 Dyrcona In the world of gov't contracts, that's pocket change. ;)
10:10 * rfrasur mumbles something about gov't contracts and BS.
10:10 Dyrcona I'm not disagreeing with you, btw.
10:12 rfrasur I know.  I'm just incredulous...and even more incredulous that I'm not MORE incredulous.
10:12 * rfrasur goes to get coffee with the hope that it has a dose of optimism and love in it.
10:13 Stompro At least they use a private copy of JRE 1.6 for Millennium, but everytime the system version changes, any of their web based tools fail.  They haven't figured out how to sign their applets yet, so it's whack a mole with the JRE exception list, which the JRE helpfully tries to reset with every install.
10:13 bshum yboston: Let me know if you have some free time today as we work on releases
10:13 Dyrcona Stompro: Sounds about right.
10:15 Dyrcona Is it monthly release day?

10:22 rfrasur kmlussier: Is there a specific size spec for the sign?
10:22 rfrasur lol, specific spec.  That's silly.
10:22 rfrasur sorry
10:22 kmlussier rfrasur: Yeah. I suppose you want to know what it is?
10:22 rfrasur :D, I mean...I can make crap up.
10:23 mmorgan Stompro: I remember when Millennium didn't use a private copy of JRE. Fun times. :)
10:24 kmlussier rfrasur: It's 36 x 24. You could also do 24x36, but I had a time making vertical work well with our logo.
10:24 kmlussier That is, a difficult time

10:25 Stompro Hey RM's, I need to push some doc changes to 2_8 and 2_7, should I wait until after release day?  I don't want to annoy.
10:25 bshum Stompro: No, please go ahead and do all you need to do
10:26 bshum Wait, I'm not officially an RM anymore... uh... I still think you should push ahead any docs you'd like.
10:26 bshum Since those get packaged with the tarballs, I like having them nicely updated prior to cuts.
10:26 bshum My to-do prior to cutting is to see what else needs to be pushed on
10:27 Stompro bshum, ok, I'll get them done ASAP!
10:27 * Dyrcona isn't supposed to be cutting anything today, so thinks it is fine. :)

10:33 yboston this reminds me, can any release manager point me to any wiki docs that cover how release are made. I want to start learning
10:34 yboston I started searching but have not found any docs yet
10:34 yboston I did find this page
10:34 yboston http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=dev:evergreen:release_checklist
10:34 bshum yboston: The best thing so far is this wiki page that was created to explain how 2.8 works
10:34 bshum http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:release_process:evergreen:2.8
10:35 bshum For maintainers, it's similar to that, but you skip over the i18n syncing steps

10:37 kmlussier Sigh...

10:39 yboston bshum: thanks, also I am abotu to send a email to you and the other involved partie to get on the same page
10:40 * kmlussier desperately searches for a time turner.
10:40 csharp rfrasur: I'm at a conference today, so not fully tuned-in to IRC - did you have a question for me?

10:42 * bshum wants to eat some poutine.
10:42 bshum Maybe next year :(
10:42 bshum Well, and learn about postgresql stuff... but mostly the poutine...
10:42 csharp I haven't had poutine yet, but I had some excellent Burmese food last night
10:42 rfrasur csharp: no worries.  I was just wondering if you knew who worked on the artwork for the Evergreen or happen to know the name of or have access to the font that was used.

14:10 kmlussier Dyrcona: You don't hate sip yet?
14:11 Dyrcona "Why would I hate SIP?" he asked ironically.
14:11 kmlussier @hates Dyrcona
14:11 pinesol_green Dyrcona hates parts; MARC; English orthography; Launchpad; RDA; typos; Launchpad Search; printing; NCIP; Launchpad_some_moar; billing even MOAR!; billing; futzing around in GUIs when I could actually get the work done instead of correcting all the horse shit the GUI insists on doing.; and the wifi in the office.
14:11 Dyrcona Hmm. Think I'll clear that out.
14:12 kmlussier I like the penultimate one
14:12 krvmga here is the URL for the massachusetts summer reading program in public libraries, http://iread.evanced.info
14:12 krvmga has anyone had any experience connecting evergreen to this?
14:12 bshum krvmga: Yes, and no.
14:12 bshum Mostly, I stick my head in the sand and avoid it.
14:13 krvmga bshum: i can give the libraries a default catalog URL to use but they're having trouble getting book jackets to display
14:13 bshum krvmga: Yeah, cause their approach sucks.
14:13 bshum Oh wait, I didn't mean to say that aloud... :P
14:13 krvmga i think the iread set up won't play well with evergreen
14:14 bshum The problem is that they're trying to crib from our book jackets by proxy, using identifiers that don't work (like ISBN, etc.)
14:14 bshum cause they're still written towards pre-2.7 systems where it was ISBN driven cover art
14:14 krvmga yes, i saw that in the code
14:14 bshum But now though, it's all record ID based
14:16 bshum So, basically you're where I was about a year ago.
14:16 bshum And the libraries who asked for more integration gave up at this point.
14:16 krvmga bshum: i am comforted...
14:16 krvmga ...not.
14:17 bshum At a certain point, I ask, do we modify our systems or does Evanced need to change theirs?  And nobody gave me a good answer on that, so I moved on with my life.
14:17 bshum :P
14:17 krvmga :P
14:18 bshum The thing that also bothered me was the piggy-backing they were doing, basically scraping our cover art off our catalogs.
14:18 bshum Which I guess we license to use the cover art for our catalog... but does Evanced get the right to use it?
14:18 bshum I got weird answers on that front too.
14:18 bshum And I didn't dig in deep into our Syndetics agreements to figure out what was right or wrong there.
14:18 krvmga bshum: i'm going to bet we'd be breaking our licensing agreement with Baker & Taylor.

15:14 rjackson_isl playing intermediary between libraries and 3rd party vendors using SIP is always fun!
15:17 Dyrcona Indeed!

16:08 jeff it also appears to enable the Text link next to call numbers in the catalog.
16:09 mmorgan Oh yeah! Forgot about that one.

16:12 kmlussier berick: 2.8.2 release notes are on their way once I do a bit of re-reading. Do you want me to merge them directly to master or would you like to look at the branch first?
16:12 digitalgraphitti any ideas when 2.8.2 will be a stable release?
16:13 kmlussier Today?
16:13 kmlussier Actually, I shouldn't answer that question. berick is the RM for 2.8.2 and could answer it definitively.

16:16 digitalgraphitti we are looking to convert to evergreen very soon, and I have test installed onto wheezy a month ago, but have since upgraded to jessie and ran into problems, and decided to put it down until 2.8.2
16:16 jeff Also, as the description of sms.enable somewhat alludes, if you set it to false and users or staff edit their notification preferences (possibly other scenarios as well), SMS notification can be saved as unset for a user who previously had it set.

16:18 * kmlussier creates more typos and grammatical errors as she fixes them.
16:18 kmlussier It's a lot like bug fixing.
16:21 digitalgraphitti i got frustratingly stuck a week ago compilling something because of a | vs l vs I typo

16:25 berick kmlussier++
16:25 kmlussier Does that last commit belong in the Release Notes?
16:27 berick kmlussier: the one for LP#1446816 ?
16:27 berick no, it's a sanity fix only
16:27 mrpeters1 is there a way to place on a bib with no copies or volumes?
16:27 mrpeters1 *place a hold i mean
16:27 bshum mrpeters1: What would you be creating a hold for with no copies or volumes?
16:28 mrpeters1 an e-book, for example
16:28 mrpeters1 no call number, no asset.copy, just the bib id with the 856 info
16:28 edoceo joined #evergreen
16:28 Dyrcona mrpeters1: I don't think so, 'cause there's nothing to check out.
16:28 bshum mrpeters1: The hold would never get filled though... so what'd be the point?
16:29 bshum mrpeters1: I mean, usually ebook hosting platforms tend to have their own reservation system (I'm thinking of like overdrive's odd model)
16:29 mrpeters1 having a heck of a time with jeffdavis's Overdrive branch -- there is a block of code -- http://pastie.org/private/xvptk8sy1muxxlpqwrni7g and i think it's preventing me from using that code becuase there aren't specific copies or volumes
16:29 bshum And those don't talk directly to Evergreen in any way.
16:29 bshum Without of course, the special API, right...
16:30 mrpeters1 example -- http://bpr.bc.catalogue.libraries.coop/eg/opac/record/106996891
16:30 mrpeters1 i've got the same code installed, but i'm never getting the Check Out E-Book stuff -- but i dont think that record has any volumes or copies either
16:31 jeff i suspect you're going to want to ensure that you have located URIs in scope on the bib in question.
16:31 jeff beyond that, it's been a long while since i looked at that code.
16:31 jeff (the sitka overdrive code)
16:31 mrpeters1 jeff, you know you might be on to something
16:31 bshum I would also think that the code isn't the same as that in Evergreen which says don't show the place hold link on bibs that have nothing
16:31 Dyrcona I've just perused it and not really tried to understand it, because CoffeeScript.
16:32 bshum And that something else is being overlaid onto that to add the link
16:32 mrpeters1 son of a gun
16:32 mrpeters1 that is EXACTLY the problem i bet
16:32 mrpeters1 no 856$9
16:33 mrpeters1 just 856 4  | 0.  ‡zClick here to access via OverDrive  ‡u http://foo.bar.com
16:33 mrpeters1 heh this should be fun...adding a $9 for each branch to that existing tag
16:34 jeff you probably don't want/need to do that.
16:34 kmlussier mrpeters1: You can also add the consortium to the $9
16:34 mrpeters1 good point kmlussier
16:34 mrpeters1 jeff: what would you do instead?
16:34 jeff mrpeters1: see kmlussier's statement.
16:35 mrpeters1 kmlussier++
16:35 jeff mrpeters1: answer can vary based on some settings, and also i've not looked at the code to determine if that's actually required. it could also be basing off of something like bib source plus a specific identifier, not relying on the url for the identifier, etc.
16:35 mrpeters1 its worth a shot
16:36 mrpeters1 and i can find out pretty quickly

16:42 * bshum taps his fingers waiting for i18n dance
16:42 Dyrcona That is a longish dance.
16:45 bshum Dyrcona: it's like the most annoying part of doing the release cutting.
16:45 Dyrcona Yep.
16:46 Dyrcona We do that dance during our production upgrades/installations.
16:47 bshum We probably should... someday.
16:47 Dyrcona Just in case someone decides to use the staff client in Armenian. :)
16:47 bshum :)
16:48 Bmagic Is there any reason a copy can be deleted by nobody? According to the auditor table, there was no one responsible. The item went into transit, then a couple weeks later deleted by no one
16:49 berick voldemort did it
16:49 * kmlussier suspects it was pinesol_green
16:49 pinesol_green Incoming from qatests: Test Failure - http://testing.evergreen-ils.org/~live/test.html <http://testing.evergreen-ils.org/~live/test.html>
16:49 Bmagic Ah! I knew it
16:49 kmlussier Uh oh
16:49 Bmagic Will "Abort transit" make that happen somehow?
16:49 bshum Hmmm
16:49 digitalgraphitti lost in the ether between here and there
16:50 Bmagic because there is no row in transit_copy for it having the "transit" status
16:50 pastebot "mrpeters" at 64.57.241.14 pasted "could not create XPath object" (12 lines) at http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/70
16:50 mmorgan Bmagic: Abort transit won't delete items. The row in the transit_copy is deleted when the transit is aborted.
16:50 mrpeters what fun have i gotten myself into with the could not create Xpath object stuff?
16:50 bshum Well that live test failure looks like a problem with installing Excel::Writer::XLSX on the wheezy system :\
16:50 * bshum wonders what might have happened there
16:50 mrpeters and the first line there should be helpful if anyone needs to ever add a 856$9 to some bibs
16:51 Bmagic mmorgan: I knew that "abort transit" will delete the row from transit_copy which is why I think someone must have used that function because there are no rows in there for this item. But it's also deleted by no one
16:51 mrpeters maybe worthy of a random magic spell entry, maybe :P
16:52 Dyrcona bshum: From the output, it looks like a failure with installing Archive::Zip from CPAN.
16:52 bshum Dyrcona: Yeah, that's what it seems like.
16:52 Dyrcona And so, nothing we can control.
16:52 * bshum won't worry about that more till tomorrow then.
16:53 mmorgan Bmagic: I have seen rows in the auditor table with NULL as the audit_user, is that what you're seeing?
16:54 jeff Bmagic: does the editor and edit time of the deleted copy match the editor and edit time of the most recent audit table entry for the copy?
16:54 jeff not everything sets audit_user, and not everything sets editor. i don't recall off the top of my head the common culprits for copies, though.
16:55 jeff a delete or an update (with set deleted = true) via direct database query would do something like this or very similar to this.
16:56 * mmorgan suspected there were actions in the client that did not set audit_user, and suspects batch updates.
17:00 jeff okay, so for something like adding a setting to disable "text me a call number", i'm currently thinking along the lines of adding a variable to config.tt2 which is not set by default, and falls back to querying an org unit setting if unset. if you want, you can disable or enable in config.tt2, otherwise you get the org unit setting.
17:00 jeff does this seem reasonable? it seems decently with regards to flexibility and performance.
17:01 bshum jeff: Is there a reason we need both a config.tt2 variable or YAOUS?
17:01 bshum Why not just make it a config.tt2 variable.
17:01 jeff i'm fine with that if there's no desire for anything more.
17:01 bshum Or are you saying there is YAOUS already for that?
17:01 jeff currently the on/off is set by the org unit setting sms.enable
17:02 jeff so there was some precedent for it being controlled by an aous.
17:02 bshum Hmm, in that case
17:02 * bshum grumbles
17:02 jeff it is an aous that is recommended to only be set at the top of the tree, though. :-)
17:03 jeff yeah. grumble.
17:03 bshum I don't like the idea of having it be a config.tt2 variable then, if there is YAOUS already involved.
17:03 bshum To me, that's a case where splitting the existing org unit setting into more granular choices might be better.
17:04 bshum And then, during upgrade, apply it to true/false based on the existing entry setting.  And then post-upgrade, in the 2.9 release notes, add a note about how there's now multiple choices for how to control all that separately.
17:04 bshum But that's just my opinion.
17:06 bshum I did that once for https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1185148 back during 2.6's development.
17:06 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1185148 in Evergreen "Add granular library settings for requiring staff initials on notes" (affected: 1, heat: 6) [Wishlist,Fix released]
17:06 bshum Splitting one org unit setting into three separate ones.
17:06 Stompro jeff, did you ever have a chance to find that PatronAPI adapter script that you told me about at the conference?  I would like to take a look at it if you still have it somewhere.
17:07 * bshum notes the irony of saying no more YAOUS and then highlighting an approach which advocates adding more :(
17:07 jeff looking all the way back at commit fb10314, i don't think there's any reason/need for the raw value of opac.hold_notify to exist as a hidden input. it seeme to be either leftover debugging or possibly a half-attempt at preserving the SMS setting in the event that sms.enable is false for a period of time.

17:08 jeff phasefx: any opinion/confirmation? :-)
17:08 jeff @seen phasefx
17:08 pinesol_green jeff: phasefx was last seen in #evergreen 1 day, 2 hours, 48 minutes, and 28 seconds ago: * phasefx read one book (Altered Carbon) where there was an AI that had bought out its indentureship and was running a hotel
17:08 jeff not that idle :-)
17:10 phasefx jeff: I don't remember why we went with aous.. gut says config variable sounds fine
17:10 * phasefx mulls over that commit
17:11 jeff phasefx: my specific query on that commit was unrelated to the previous org unit setting conversation, fwiw.
17:13 mmorgan left #evergreen
17:14 phasefx jeff: I think you're right
17:15 jeff phasefx: thanks for looking!
17:15 phasefx welcome
17:15 Bmagic mmorgan: yes
17:16 Bmagic jeff: yes
17:19 Bmagic So, the rows in the auditor table are a copy of the row in the state it was before what it is in asset_copy? So, if there is a row in the auditor table showing deleted=t then that was a copy of it right before the update on production?
17:21 kmlussier SMS was added just as tpac was first being built. In fact, I think our original specs had it in jspac. Might explain why it was YAOUS instead of a config.tt2 setting.
17:21 kmlussier Since that time, we've definitely leaned towards using config.tt2 for catalog options.
17:23 phasefx kmlussier: I also suspect the consequences of setting the aous at arbitrary places in the tree wasn't recognized until late in development
17:25 phasefx for would-be code archeaologists, unsquashed commits still exist in collab/phasefx/sms_msgs :) and sms_msgs2
17:26 phasefx s/and smsgs2//
17:31 bshum Bmagic: If you see an audit entry and it's already got deleted = T in it, then something else touched the copy after it was marked deleted.
17:31 bshum Bmagic: The audit entry to see that it was deleted, would have been an audit entry where deleted was last False
17:32 bshum Bmagic: Cause that'd be the row that existed in asset.copy right before the copy was marked deleted by someone.
17:34 Bmagic bshum: that's what I thought, I'm getting confused
17:35 bshum Bmagic: Once upon a time, people used to delete copies that were still checked out to people.
17:35 Bmagic funny story
17:35 bshum And then checked in the items later off the patron's records, by right-clicking and saying check-in
17:35 bshum I would imagine doing stuff like that would continue to manipulate a copy after it was deleted = TRUE
17:35 Bmagic yeah, that scenario exists for us still
17:36 hopkinsju bshum: I love it when you tell us bedtime stories!
17:36 bshum I say once upon a time, because I removed that permission much to their torment.

23:39 bshum Doh....
23:39 bshum I just realized that it seems that I never forward ported the 2.7.4-2.7.5 upgrade script to rel_2_7.  So we're missing an upgrade script for 2.7.6 between 2.7.4 and 2.7.5.  So it jumps from 2.7.3-2.7.4 to 2.7.5-2.7.6...
23:40 bshum I'll put something new together :(
