06:11 devi_ hello pipl
06:12 devi_ can someboy help me with importing data to evergreen?
07:47 rjackson_isl joined #evergreen
08:09 devi_ I have CSV files and want to import to my Evergreen clean server
08:09 devi_ how?
08:17 ericar joined #evergreen
08:28 kmlussier devi_: You can't import records from a CSV files. You need to import MARC records.
08:29 devi_ how to obtain MARC records?
08:31 kmlussier devi_: If you're setting up a test system to see how it works, there is a test dataset called Concerto that can be used.
08:31 devi_ I have other system with data and want to migrate to new server
08:32 kmlussier devi_: OK, there is some info in this email thread here, but basically you would be looking to export the records out of your old system into a MARC format. http://markmail.org/message/ojwvigqpldn6wtsg
08:33 kmlussier devi_: A lot of it depends on what system you were previously using and how easy it is to obtain the records. But most library systems will already have those records in the MARC format.
08:34 devi_ thank you
08:34 kmlussier devi_: Once you get those records, you can import them into Evergreen by using the instructions here - http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.8/_migrating_from_a_legacy_system.html
08:34 kmlussier devi_: Or if there is just a small number of records, you can use the staff client to import them -http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.8/_importing_materials_in_the_staff_client.html
08:35 * kmlussier wouldn't recommend using the staff client if you have a large number of records.
08:35 devi_ ok

08:53 rjackson_isl it apears that IOT (state network) is blocking... :(

11:17 jboyer-isl There are multiple gross things about that statement. spam and yahoo's ios app are both vying for top spot.

12:35 pinesol_green kmlussier: Quote #20: "<bshum> The staff client looks pretty in Armenian" (added by Dyrcona at 09:50 PM, November 16, 2011)
12:35 RoganH_ joined #evergreen
12:44 bshum Heh, it does.
12:46 kmlussier bshum: I was trying to find the context in which that quote was made, but I couldn't find the original instance of the quote.
12:47 Dyrcona It might have been in a private conversation.
12:47 Dyrcona We have a few quotes that lack context in the logs.
12:51 kmlussier I feel really sad that I haven't had a chance to experience the Armenian staff client yet if it is indeed that pretty. I was hoping I might find a link to a screenshot along with the quote.
12:53 bshum I don't have a copy of all my IRC logs from that time on this laptop, but Dyrcona is probably right that it was a PM I sent or some other remark.
12:54 bshum Looking at the log of the day it was added, it was during 2.1's development testing and I think I was testing all the languages for the staff client
12:54 bshum Trying to figure out an i18n error.
12:54 bshum That was preventing login or something
12:54 bshum But I might have gotten my bugs and stories mixed up.
12:57 * bshum grabs a stock 2.8 client to use to get a screenshot for kmlussier
12:58 kmlussier bshum: Well, I'm not *that* sad. You don't need to go to the trouble.
12:58 bshum Ouch
12:58 bshum Yeah that won't work :)
12:58 bshum I don't have i18n setup on our servers and it bombs very unhappily trying to log in
12:59 bshum kmlussier: You can see some of it if you download the stock staff client, and then apply the locale for Armenian to see some of the string translations on the main login window itself.
12:59 bshum It's just a fancy looking script, I thought.
12:59 jeff @weather ktvc
12:59 kmlussier bshum: Thanks! I'll do that the next time I'm in the client.
12:59 pinesol_green jeff: The current temperature in Traverse City, Michigan is 73.4°F (12:53 PM EDT on May 29, 2015). Conditions: Light Thunderstorms and Rain. Humidity: 73%. Dew Point: 64.4°F. Pressure: 30.01 in 1016 hPa (Rising).
13:00 jeff pretty sure i left at least two windows open at home. :P
13:01 * kmlussier got drenched in a thunderstorm yesterday walking from the MVLC office to her car.
13:04 * bshum carried his umbrella with him all day yesterday and didn't get hit by anything.
13:05 bshum But my car did get a nice rinse
13:06 kmlussier I carry my umbrella in my car. Which does me no good when I'm not in my car to start with.

13:10 kmlussier Nice!
13:10 kmlussier alynn26++
13:12 kmlussier I find it funny that Z39.50 continues to display the same.
13:15 kmlussier Would it be fair to say that, in the web client, it will be easier to customize which fields display in places like the record summary and the patron summary? Are those just tt2 files that will need editing?
13:17 alynn26 The Catalog and Admin Menu items are still in English also.  Looking at the actual staff client, there are still some areas that are not translated.
13:21 bshum alynn26: Yeah, keeping translations updated and synchronized has been... Interesting.
13:21 alynn26 Most of them were added in 2.5+
13:25 * bshum idly wonders if the Armenian libraries upgraded
13:33 bshum Well, a public server on the web seems to indicate that they're on 2.5.5 or so.
13:33 bshum Maybe
13:35 bshum Anywho

14:31 rjackson_isl Embarrased to go back to this AM - but our state folks reviewed the docs.evergreen-ils.org time out and indicated everything is fine from within our network. Is their someone at Mowhak College that could review and see if we are being bounced for some reason?
14:31 rjackson_isl I try an nslookup on 142.222.71.254 and it timesout in 2 seconds
14:31 csharp http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/docs.evergreen-ils.org - works for me okay
14:32 rjackson_isl I get an "It's just you" reply - is that indicating I do have a problem (other than the obvious)?
14:33 csharp it just means "we can get to it okay"
14:33 csharp I would suspect bad DNS unless your folks have ruled that out
14:34 rjackson_isl NEVER! ;)
14:34 csharp oh - wait - you said it didn't work with IP either
14:34 rjackson_isl right
14:34 csharp I can confirm that that IP is just spinning for me too
14:35 csharp docs.evergreen-ils.org has address 142.222.145.74
14:35 rjackson_isl tracert goes from 216.185.64.122 then to the mentioned spinner
14:36 csharp rjackson_isl: ^^ that's what I get with "host docs.evergreen-ils.org"
14:38 montgoc1 Is there a way to change hold types (meta, title, etc.) without recreating the hold from scratch?
14:40 csharp montgoc1: I don't think so
14:40 akilsdonk joined #evergreen
14:41 csharp I mean, direct DB change to modify the type, but I have no idea whether that would change anythin
14:41 csharp g
14:42 montgoc1 OK. We currently just replace the hold as the new type, alter the date to match the original, and delete the original.
14:44 montgoc1 I didn't know if I was missing some clever option that streamlined that process.
14:44 csharp we've trained our folks to default to title hold placement unless there's a specific reason to do otherwise
14:44 csharp staff place copy and volume holds thinking that will speed things up somehow, but it usually means the patron waits longer when a specific copy goes missing or something
14:45 montgoc1 I agree.
14:46 montgoc1 I actually place volume holds for myself to slow things down.
14:46 montgoc1 I time my holds and hate when I forget to place a volume hold.  The book then comes in a day, when I was hoping to have a couple more weeks.
14:48 montgoc1 I was actually looking at moving some title holds to meta to include both reg print and large print.
14:59 RoganH joined #evergreen
15:03 ohiojoe montgoc1:  I'd thought about retraining/encouraging the staff to start doing meta holds for most situations where the patron doesn't care exactly which format they would get..
15:03 ohiojoe especially large print versus regular
15:04 montgoc1 The issue is happening when we have a regular print already and a new LP copy comes in.  To reduce the list wait time, we'd like to make them all meta holds unless the patron specified a format.
15:06 ohiojoe Do you think it would workk as desired with DVDs as well?  i've noticed that there are times when we have multiple DVD records that by rule, should kind of be kept seperate..
15:07 montgoc1 I suppose so.

22:43 ohiojoe Is anybody listening who might know.  I'm starting the weekend project of doing my first EG install, and have stumbbled on the prereqs for OpenSRF
22:44 ohiojoe instruction #2 states to issue the command, in my case of:  make -f /src/extras/Makefile.install debian-wheezy
22:44 ohiojoe however, when I issue this command make returns "*** No rule to make target 'Makefile.install' and stops
22:52 ohiojoe ah, wait a sec..  I think I just figured out what I was missing..
23:30 jeff_ Glad to hear!
