I have CSV files and want to import to my Evergreen clean server |
08:09 |
devi_ |
how? |

kmlussier |
devi_: You can't import records from a CSV files. You need to import MARC records. |
08:29 |
devi_ |
how to obtain MARC records? |
08:31 |
kmlussier |
devi_: If you're setting up a test system to see how it works, there is a test dataset called Concerto that can be used. |
08:31 |
devi_ |
I have other system with data and want to migrate to new server |
08:32 |
kmlussier |
devi_: OK, there is some info in this email thread here, but basically you would be looking to export the records out of your old system into a MARC format. http://markmail.org/message/ojwvigqpldn6wtsg |
08:33 |
kmlussier |
devi_: A lot of it depends on what system you were previously using and how easy it is to obtain the records. But most library systems will already have those records in the MARC format. |
08:34 |
devi_ |
thank you |
08:34 |
kmlussier |
devi_: Once you get those records, you can import them into Evergreen by using the instructions here - http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.8/_migrating_from_a_legacy_system.html |
08:34 |
kmlussier |
devi_: Or if there is just a small number of records, you can use the staff client to import them -http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.8/_importing_materials_in_the_staff_client.html |
08:35 |
* kmlussier |
wouldn't recommend using the staff client if you have a large number of records. |

We have a few quotes that lack context in the logs. |

I feel really sad that I haven't had a chance to experience the Armenian staff client yet if it is indeed that pretty. I was hoping I might find a link to a screenshot along with the quote. |

I don't have a copy of all my IRC logs from that time on this laptop, but Dyrcona is probably right that it was a PM I sent or some other remark. |

Would it be fair to say that, in the web client, it will be easier to customize which fields display in places like the record summary and the patron summary? Are those just tt2 files that will need editing? |
13:17 |

The Catalog and Admin Menu items are still in English also. Looking at the actual staff client, there are still some areas that are not translated. |

Embarrased to go back to this AM - but our state folks reviewed the docs.evergreen-ils.org time out and indicated everything is fine from within our network. Is their someone at Mowhak College that could review and see if we are being bounced for some reason? |

14:42 |
montgoc1 |
OK. We currently just replace the hold as the new type, alter the date to match the original, and delete the original. |
14:44 |
montgoc1 |
I didn't know if I was missing some clever option that streamlined that process. |
14:44 |
csharp |
we've trained our folks to default to title hold placement unless there's a specific reason to do otherwise |
14:44 |
csharp |
staff place copy and volume holds thinking that will speed things up somehow, but it usually means the patron waits longer when a specific copy goes missing or something |
14:45 |
montgoc1 |
I agree. |
14:46 |
montgoc1 |
I actually place volume holds for myself to slow things down. |
14:46 |
montgoc1 |
I time my holds and hate when I forget to place a volume hold. The book then comes in a day, when I was hoping to have a couple more weeks. |
14:48 |

I was actually looking at moving some title holds to meta to include both reg print and large print. |

RoganH joined #evergreen |

montgoc1: I'd thought about retraining/encouraging the staff to start doing meta holds for most situations where the patron doesn't care exactly which format they would get.. |
15:03 |
ohiojoe |
especially large print versus regular |
15:04 |
montgoc1 |
The issue is happening when we have a regular print already and a new LP copy comes in. To reduce the list wait time, we'd like to make them all meta holds unless the patron specified a format. |
15:06 |
ohiojoe |
Do you think it would workk as desired with DVDs as well? i've noticed that there are times when we have multiple DVD records that by rule, should kind of be kept seperate.. |
