09:03 Dyrcona I'm curious: Did anyone else get a "Senior Expo Asia 2015" spam this morning/last night?
09:03 Dyrcona I got it at home and at work.
09:04 Dyrcona Checking our mail server logs all of the recipients here are associated with the Evergreen community.
09:05 Dyrcona It's in English and Chinese.
09:05 bshum Dyrcona: Huh, I wondered where that came from...
09:05 Shae joined #evergreen
09:05 bshum Not really, I just junked it.
09:05 tsbere I got two copies. One for me, one for gitadmin. <_<
09:08 kmlussier Both of mind came from two different sfconservancy addresses. But Dyrcona already knew that.
09:08 Dyrcona Well, it was relayed through a conservancy server.
09:08 Dyrcona The sender address is elf.hui@....
09:13 ericar joined #evergreen
09:14 Dyrcona Must have sent it to a conservancy mailing list or two.
09:15 Dyrcona But mine apparently came directly from an ISP in Hong Kong.
09:15 Dyrcona I suppose this person must think Evergreen has to do with aging/longevity research.
09:25 gdunbar joined #evergreen
09:27 dbs Dyrcona: I got it a couple of times.
09:29 Dyrcona I told bshum in private chat that some of us should go.
09:29 Dyrcona It would be funny to be among the others with their geriatric products and there we are with our ILS.
09:30 bshum July in Hong Kong is tooo brutally hot for me.
09:30 csharp Dyrcona: it was sent to every list.evergreen-ils.org list
09:31 Dyrcona I would probably not have bothered to look at our mail server logs or asked in channel, if I had only gotten the 1 at home and 1 at MVLC.
09:32 Dyrcona But, I got 2 at MVLC so I was curious where they came from and what addresses they were sent to, so I started poking.
09:32 Dyrcona Anyway, it's been a curious distraction this morning.

09:35 Dyrcona On a more directly Evergreen-related note: We recently bumped our max cstore drones to 200 as a result of getting "could not launch" errors consistently since our upgrade, when we were at 100.
09:35 Dyrcona We made it one day without any "could not launch" errors at all.
09:35 Dyrcona Then on Sunday, we had 1530 such log entries.
09:36 Dyrcona We didn't have any on Monday, though we did hit 200 once or twice after midnight.
09:36 Dyrcona Our next step is to run webalizer on the apache logs to see if we're getting hammered from somewhere in particular.
09:37 Dyrcona And, our open-ils.cstore 'not connected' drone errors continue to plod along at the typical rate of several hundred to a thousand or so per day.
09:38 Dyrcona I really think we're going to go multi-server when we get new machines in the first quarter of 2015.
09:40 csharp bshum: are you seeing anything similar to what Dyrcona's describing?  Just curious, since I'd like to have a heads up on that kind of thing
09:41 csharp we have 6 app servers, FWIW, in case that's a factor
09:41 bshum I haven't seen amything weird going on. Or heard anything strange.
09:41 csharp ok - cool
09:41 dbs Dyrcona: it really sounds like something is creating transactions that are never completing
09:42 bshum Though bumping up cstore children is just a fact of life as far as I've known since 2.0 days
09:42 csharp Dyrcona: we saw similar stuff a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a rogue SIP client that was sending many many connections per second
09:42 dbs We saw that last year when we were getting hit with automated searches for things like "a", "the", "canada" that resulted in search timing out and the database pretty much locking up
09:42 berick Dyrcona: you could look for occurrences of "No request was received in %d seconds, exiting stateful session" to see if there is a common API call leaving them hanging
09:42 csharp (found with wireshark/tshark)
09:43 dbs We found the nasty queries by monitoring the database server with pg_top for queries running at 99% CPU for longer than 10 seconds.
09:44 dbs There are SIP clients that aren't rogues? Oh wait, "rogue" implies dashing/charming like Han Solo.
09:44 BigRig morning all
09:44 csharp BigRig: greetings
09:44 kmlussier BigRig: Good morning!
09:45 csharp dbs++
09:49 * dbs is starting to think we might be doing ourselves a disservice when we replace the $0 in a controlled field with our own locally-pointing $0
09:49 dbs because the existing $0 might be something like 100 1#$aTrollope, Anthony,$d1815-1882.$0(isni)1234567899999799 where the isni could be converted to a link out to http://isni.org/isni/0000000134596520
09:49 dbs err, replace 0000 with 123456blah but you get the idea
09:50 dbs and the $0 is repeatable, so we could point to external identifiers as well as to our internal authority record ID.
09:50 dbs Just thinking about next steps from bug 1402921
09:50 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1402921 in Evergreen "Linked data: link out to major entities such as LoC and OCLC" (affected: 1, heat: 6) [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1402921
09:51 eeevil dbs: I could get behind only removing $0 where the conents of the paren'd part match our authority identifier
09:51 eeevil s/removing/replacing/ or whatever
09:51 dbs eeevil: cool
09:51 eeevil and supply a reasonable default value for that
09:52 eeevil instead of generating "$0(you should really set this to something) 12345" ;)
09:52 dbs heh. What fool set that default! (DON'T RUN git blame!)
09:53 * dbs gets the feeling he might be diving back into authority code in the new year
09:53 * dbs heads out into the fog/rain

10:31 kmlussier Do people think it would be a good idea to add a community section to the FAQ? For example, we could add a question on how to get a wiki account.
10:31 kmlussier I know the info is listed on the site somewhere, but I always forget where to find it.
10:34 dbs kmlussier: sounds good to me, anything that lowers the barrier to joining
10:34 dbs I think the existing info is basically under a page that lists "who does what", maybe
10:35 kmlussier I also found it on a "how to participate in DIG" page, but I don't think most people who want to contribute to the wiki are necessarily thinking of documentation.
10:35 kmlussier Hey, I remember that who does what page. I wonder if it's still up to date.
10:39 rjackson-isl joined #evergreen
10:40 * dbs wonders if there's a "Person who updates this page: " entry on that page
10:41 kmlussier I used to make a habit of updating that page, but I haven't looked at it in maybe a year.
10:41 dbs re Bug 1403098 I wonder if the problem is that the authority linking scripts need to be run on the concerto data set first.
10:41 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1403098 in Evergreen "open-ils.supercat.authority.browse_center.by_axis.refs returns identical authority records" (affected: 1, heat: 6) [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1403098
10:43 dbs kmlussier: hey, what about development projects that developers are already actively working on (like bug 1402921)?
10:43 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1402921 in Evergreen "Linked data: link out to major entities such as LoC and OCLC" (affected: 1, heat: 6) [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1402921
10:43 dbs Should that be part of the wiki page? Hrm.
10:43 dbs probably not
10:44 yboston dbs: I was starting to look at that bug report too
10:44 dbs maybe we should recommend searching & linking to existing entries in launchpad though where proposed development potentially overlaps
10:44 yboston dbs: I wonder if what they are seeing is the repeated entries when auth matches have mutiple see and see alsos
10:50 kmlussier dbs: The idea behind the page was to capture projects that weren't at the Launchpad stage yet. Things that are really in the idea stage.
10:52 kmlussier yboston: I was thinking we should add the academic interest group to http://evergreen-ils.org/communicate/committees/, but I didn't know who to list as a main contact.

11:58 csharp okay - I'm not seeing DVD format icons show
11:58 csharp (in 2.7.1)
11:59 csharp the rest of the format icons display fine
11:59 kmlussier I'm feeling a bit of deja vu. Didn't somebody else have the same issue recently?
12:00 csharp probably :-/
12:02 kmlussier csharp: Ah, that was mrpeters. And I think it was your server. :)
12:03 berick yeah http://evergreen-ils.org/irc_logs/evergreen/2014-12/%23evergreen.01-Mon-2014.log

12:04 kmlussier csharp: It looks like the solution was revealed around http://irc.evergreen-ils.org/evergreen/2014-12-01#i_141800

12:22 mrpeters csharp: the issue is the way certain items are cataloged
12:22 mrpeters dvd icon does show up when cataloged properly, but you have lots of items that seem to be cataloged as Laserdisc or "Video Disc"
12:22 mrpeters I made note of it on the upgrade spreadsheet.

12:31 kmlussier bshum or anyone else: do you know if we already have a page with guidance on testing bugs/using Launchpad?
12:31 bshum kmlussier: Last I recalled, I thought ericar was working on a page for that.
12:32 kmlussier I was thinking it would be useful to put http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:bug_squashing:2014-11-10#testing_bugs on a page that is more permanant than a bug squashing day page, but I didn't want to create something new if there was something already out there.
12:33 bshum kmlussier: Yeah, it was a carryover from a few web team meetings:  http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=webteam:meetings:agenda:2014-10-15
12:34 bshum I imagine it's just gotten lost in the shuffles.
12:36 kmlussier Well, maybe I can create the page with info on testing bugs, and then when somebody has time to do the larger "how to use Launchpad" page, they can incorporate it there?

16:03 mmorgan jboyer-isl: I did start poking, but didn't finish testing yet.
16:04 mmorgan I did find that the deleted locations still show up in the interfaces where location groups and location order are configured.
16:07 jboyer-isl How annoying of them. :/ I'm glad I didn't try to get it pushed in under the wire then, I'll keep plugging away.
16:07 jboyer-isl Thanks mmorgan .
