jeff: NOBLE is very interested in your stats dashboard and your work with jasper reports. Do you have getting started resources you can share? Has anyone else set up something similar? |
15:09 |
jeff |
mmorgan: at present I'm only aware of TADL and TADL partners doing much with Jasper and/or that specific dashboard. On the dashboard itself, we're hoping to revisit and package up some code (there wasn't even a LOCAL git repo until last week sometime) before the end of the year. |

15:20 |
jeff |
we've also brought on an additional client/partner library into our shared system which is not part of our library district, which has given us the opportunity to segment both the stats dashboard and Jasper Reports in ways that force us to avoid things like "hardcoded to TADL org units" |
15:20 |
dbs |
hmm. no info in the docs on how to customize hold slips? Seems like that would be a reasonably common activity |
15:22 |

so, serious question... if we put more effort into making that a customizable thing, do people here think that their library would make use of it? |
16:12 |
jeff |
or are there hangups (technical or political) that you think would need to be overcome first? |
16:13 |
jeff |
where "making that a customizable thing" is more along the lines of "making our stats dashboard more friendly for people to set up for their own libraries", perhaps. |
16:16 |
jeff |
the basic workings of it at present are: cron job runs that outputs various SQL queries to CSV and copies CSV to web server. PHP on web server reads CSV data and outputs web page. |
16:16 |
jeff |
that last part was mostly because the "read it from a CSV file" bits of highcharts were not suitable at the time. |
16:20 |
kmlussier |
jeff: What level of technical skill would be require if you made it more customizable? |
16:20 |
kmlussier |
It seems to me that it would be a clear win to make it more customizable, unless it was something that were really hard to implement. |
16:20 |
dbs |
One could potentially take PHP out of the mix and just feed the CSV to a JS library? |
16:21 |
Stompro |
jeff: I think we would consider using it, it looks like a great marketing tool. Are the EG stats gathered nightly right now? |
16:26 |
|
tspindler left #evergreen |
16:29 |
jeff |
Stompro: yes. there is presently some manual confirmation of successful database rotation when it comes to things like the public computing usage stats, so those weekly graphs don't update automatically. the rest is just a scheduled cron job. |

dbs: yes, or have the backend scripts generate json files instead of CSV -- both should be able to remove the PHP requirement from the front end. |
