10:01 krvmga in browse.tt2, i can't see what part of the code determines the display order of See Also and See references. anyone know?
10:02 krvmga right now, on our production servers, See also is appearing before See. (Example: http://bark.cwmars.org/eg/opac/browse?blimit=25&amp;qtype=author&bterm=eagan,+nikki&locg=1 )
10:04 kmlussier krvmga: I don't know the answer to your question, but if you figure it out, please add the code to https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1307603

11:28 kmlussier Hmmm...I'm trying to help somebody through setting up git so that they can contribute patches. I've forgotten the steps I followed when I first set this up.
11:29 kmlussier In http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=dev:git, where it says to do git remote add name git@EvergreenGitServer:evergreen/user_foo.git, what is user_foo.git?
11:31 jboyer-isl kmlussier: I think that’s just an example of how to use the ssh config. The Working Repos section has more about remotes.
11:32 jboyer-isl And I misspoke! Make sure you go through the Quick Start for Evergreen Contributors before moving on the the working repos section.
11:33 kmlussier jboyer-isl: Yeah, I see where I need to be now. Thanks!

13:01 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1261791 in Evergreen "no search box on catalog's account pages when viewed on screens smaller than 600px wide" (affected: 1, heat: 8) [Undecided,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1261791
13:01 kmlussier Oop! Meeting time. Sorry.
13:02 gmcharlt kmlussier: bug

13:05 gmcharlt ok
13:05 gmcharlt #topic Actions items
13:06 gmcharlt first off, kmlussier++ for blogging
13:06 kmlussier It wasn't just me. gmcharlt++ bshum++
13:07 gmcharlt it looks like some of the action items will continue to need to carry over
13:07 gmcharlt so first, to name check the people who aren't ostensibly here
13:07 gmcharlt #action (carry-over) gdunbar will proceed with the redesign of the downloads page
13:08 gmcharlt #action (carry-over) phasefx will work on the FAQs
13:08 gmcharlt #action phasefx will put up the completed FAQ entries
13:09 gmcharlt so, I'll leave those standing unless folks can provide an update now
13:10 gmcharlt oh, also
13:10 gmcharlt #action (carry-over) ericar to add more libraries to the current roster
13:10 gmcharlt so moving on
13:10 gmcharlt I will be creating a child theme on the blog today so that the "learn more" buttons can be changed
13:11 bshum gmcharlt++
13:11 gmcharlt #action gmcharlt will create a child theme on the website for the purpose of managing minor tweaks like the "learn more" buttons
13:11 bshum When you do that, I'll be curious to see if maybe we can add the footer contents more appropriately in that child theme too.
13:11 kmlussier gmcharlt++
13:12 bshum I've never worked with them yet, so I'll watch carefully on your examples first.
13:12 gmcharlt bshum: ok, I'll be sure to write up what I do
13:12 gmcharlt next up - kmlussier, how goes it with putting up previous conference materials
13:13 kmlussier Sorry - I haven't worked on it. Add it as an action item for the next meeting so I don't forget?
13:13 gmcharlt #action (carry-over) kmlussier to create pages with handouts, schedule, logo etc. from the previous conference (as material is/becomes available)
13:13 gmcharlt #action (carry-over) gmcharlt will coordinate with the EOB regarding the trademark policy page
13:13 kmlussier gmcharlt: On that action item...
13:13 gmcharlt yep?
13:13 kmlussier I also noticed a trademark statement on http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=contributing:contributors
13:14 kmlussier I was going to update it, but wasn't quite sure of the language.
13:15 gmcharlt let's work together on that -- we need to dig up the language from previous meeting logs/minutes
13:15 kmlussier Fun!
13:17 gmcharlt bshum: ericar was working on a how to use LaunchPad page -- is that still pending, do you know?
13:17 bshum gmcharlt: I haven't seen a draft
13:17 bshum So I assume it's still pending
13:17 ericar I am still working on it. I know I'm behind the deadline.
13:17 gmcharlt ericar: no worries!
13:17 gmcharlt #action (carry-over) ericar will complete the how to use LaunchPad page and give it to bshum to put up
13:18 gmcharlt next up - bshum, anything further to report on the Google CSE settings
13:18 bshum gmcharlt: Nothing specific. I think when we started talking about it last, dbs or phasefx started tweaking a few things and I didn't want to touch it while everyone else was.
13:19 bshum I didn't follow up on it further after that.
13:19 gmcharlt ok
13:19 bshum I think we've got most things covered by it.
13:19 gmcharlt shall we consider the matter closed for now?
13:19 bshum But if anybody notices anything that's needed, they can drop a line on the list or IRC
13:19 bshum I would consider it closed as a general issue. We can deal with any further tweaks on case-by-case
13:20 gmcharlt sounds good

13:22 gmcharlt #info Chauncey Montgomery has proposed that the website contain a place for job listings related to Evergreen
13:22 ktomita joined #evergreen
13:22 gmcharlt so far folks seem amenable to that
13:22 gmcharlt so I'd like to discuss ideas for implementing it
13:23 gmcharlt one possibiity is to steal^Wborrow shorttimer, which is what runs jobs.code4lib.org
13:23 gmcharlt #link https://github.com/code4lib/shortimer
13:23 gmcharlt dbs++ for pointing the way
13:24 bshum Are there any wordpress plugins for this sort of thing?
13:24 kmlussier Yeah, I was just looking for some. https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-job-manager/
13:24 gmcharlt yeah
13:25 kmlussier I'm sure there are more.
13:25 gmcharlt #link http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-job-manager/
13:25 bshum I like code4lib's approach to things, but I'm thinking it'd be nice to avoid another piece of infrastructure if we can use anything that already exists (like wordpress)
13:25 gmcharlt yeah
13:26 gmcharlt the tradeoff is that if I'm reading the shorttimer description correctly, it works by in part by scraping job postings from the mailing lists
13:26 gmcharlt which is easy-peasy for folks posting the jobs
13:26 gmcharlt but bshum's point is good as well
13:27 gmcharlt how about this... we can toss up the WP Job Manager plugin and run it through its paces
13:28 ericar_ joined #evergreen
13:28 kmlussier Sounds reasonable. I'm looking at an article on 6 WP job solutions, but Job Manager was the only free one listed.
13:29 gmcharlt I think we also will need a volunteer to curate the job postings and assist employers with adding them, whichever technical solution we go with
13:30 kmlussier gmcharlt: Is that a volunteer opportunity that could be put out to the general list?
13:30 ericar_ left #evergreen
13:31 gmcharlt kmlussier: sure; since you'll be following the EOB discussions tomorrow, may I task you with putting out that call for volunteers?
13:31 kmlussier Sure
13:32 gmcharlt #action kmlussier will put out a call for a volunteer for somebody to curate the job listings
13:32 gmcharlt #action gmcharlt will install the WP Job Manager plugging for testing
13:33 gmcharlt any other discussion regarding the jobs listing service?

13:36 gmcharlt #topic New business - hosting the Evergreen Planet (RSS aggregator)
13:37 gmcharlt #info dbs has expressed that it would be a good idea to host the planet on the community server (and he continues to be willing to admiister it)
13:37 gmcharlt dbs: anything you want to say to expand on that?
13:39 dbs gmcharlt: not much more than it makes sense for me not to be a single point of failure if I get hit by a bus or whatever
13:39 gmcharlt (may that day never happen)
13:39 dbs and probably makes it easier to reuse CSS / images etc
13:39 dbs I envision just keeping the config in a git repo so that anyone could commit changes to add / remove blogs or whatever
13:39 gmcharlt what software is the planet using?
13:40 dbs "or whatever" is my new thing, apparently
13:40 dbs planet-venus - a simple cron-based RSS aggregator
13:40 gmcharlt and is there any technical reason to prefer creating a separate VM for it or just adding it to the main EG website VM?
13:41 dbs none that I can think of.
13:41 gmcharlt ok
13:42 gmcharlt before we move forward, any objection to the notion of moving the planet over to the community server?
13:42 bshum No objection.
13:42 kmlussier None from me.
13:43 gmcharlt great
13:43 gmcharlt #action gmcharlt will coordinate/assist with dbs to move the planet

13:58 jboyer-isl kmlussier: you asked about lp 1261791 while I was at lunch, it was originally considered a feature, because I assumed that the point of the My Account pages was the information about your account, not a search box and assorted clickables. Since tapping the logo sends you to the homepage (fairly common on the internet) I left it at that when I originally mobile’d Indiana’s opac.
13:58 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1261791 in Evergreen "no search box on catalog's account pages when viewed on screens smaller than 600px wide" (affected: 1, heat: 8) [Undecided,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1261791
13:59 tsbere Dunno if anyone wants to take a look at this, but I figured I should share it given how useful it may be: http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=working/random.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/collab/tsbere/buildvms
13:59 kmlussier jboyer-isl: Yes, I understand and am in total agreement with removing the search box from that page. It was way too large. But not every site has a logo that takes them to the home page.
13:59 tsbere MVLC has the logo potentially go to the individual library's website, not the catalog homepage. >_>
14:00 kmlussier jboyer-isl: I think the patch added to the bug handles the situation nicely without taking up too much screen space. I was just wondering bug vs. feature to get an idea of backporting, release notes, etc.
14:00 jboyer-isl Ah. Didn’t know that. (I think logo -> homepage is in the default template now so it didn’t occur to me.)
14:01 bshum Yeah logo -> home is something we added during the mobile work last year for 2.4
14:03 csharp gmcharlt++ webteam++
14:03 kmlussier Speaking of that bug, the patch is from a new Evergreen contributor if anyone wants to take a look at it.
14:04 * csharp thinks it's best usability best practice to make a logo be a "take me home" (that is, back to the catalog start page), but obviously that's a local choice
14:05 * csharp also understands that many libraries use their webpages as a start page for their patrons
14:05 Dyrcona log -> home is nice, except a) it isn't always obvious that you want to hit it if you want to search and b) ours go to library home pages.
14:06 Dyrcona I like the change. It adds explicit links to basic and advanced search.
14:08 Dyrcona Our member's staff who reported the problem has this to say after looking at it just now: "I think it's great."
14:08 jboyer-isl I’m not arguing against the opposed patch, if anything has be be added to those pages just basic links are the way to go. Just explaining how we got here.
14:08 jboyer-isl Ugh. PROposed patch. Thanks autocomplete.
14:08 Dyrcona jboyer-isl: Understood. It's in the bug comments.
14:08 Dyrcona It's IRC, we make allowances. :)
14:09 jboyer-isl Sure, but assuming something means essentially the opposite can be a dangerous game. :)
14:12 gmcharlt it's assumptions all the way down!!!! ;)
14:12 kmlussier gmcharlt: I can take "set up automatic social network propagation off the Blue Sky list, right?
14:12 jboyer-isl Assumption soup isn’t nearly as good as turtle soup.
14:12 gmcharlt kmlussier: oh, sure!
14:13 gmcharlt @quote add <jboyer-isl> Assumption soup isn’t nearly as good as turtle soup.
14:13 pinesol_green gmcharlt: The operation succeeded. Quote #89 added.

14:25 kmlussier csharp: I don't think your mailing lists like me anymore. I have another one I sent out about 30 minutes ago. It's in the mailman archive, but it's not in Markmail, and it hasn't arrived in my Inbox. http://libmail.georgialibraries.org/pipermail/open-ils-general/2014-August/010551.html
14:36 bshum kmlussier: Part of me wishes that we could just add "Search" as one of the "Go to..." menu links from when you first log into the my account area.
14:37 bshum That seems less intrusive to me than taking up screen real estate
14:40 bshum But maybe it's not as intuitive that way either...
14:42 kmlussier bshum: I didn't find it to be intrusive, but I'm looking at it on a production system where other changes were made for the mobile view. A smaller logo for example. So maybe it's a little different from what you're seeing on a clean install.
14:44 kmlussier It also is consistent with the links we have for basic and advanced search we have on other screens in the mobile view.
14:44 bshum kmlussier: Yeah well, I hate those being there too ;)
14:44 bshum As being generally intrusive to my screen real estate
14:45 Dyrcona See, I just don't use my phone for the web unless I really have to.
14:45 collum I tested on a clean install. I don't find it intrusive, but it is green links on a green background. Another option would be a drop-down with the 3 search options on the same line as the 'Go to' drop-down.
14:46 Dyrcona My phone's main purpose seems to be the playing of Candy Crush.
14:46 Dyrcona collum++
14:46 kmlussier I used to use my phone for the library catalog all the time (when I had a smarter phone). Easier to use than looking something up on a public workstation.
14:46 Dyrcona collum: I followed up with a muddled message that I think the ids of the added links should be used.
14:47 kmlussier collum: Yes, thanks for the comment and testing! I saw that. I think she can probably fix that up.
14:47 bshum Oh, so is that why I can't see the links on the clean master :)
14:47 Dyrcona I got distracted while editing the comment and it didn't come out quite perfect.
14:48 Dyrcona You can see them just fine at http://jasondev.mvlcstaff.org/, but then I'd need to give you an account.
14:48 Dyrcona Of course, we have customized css.
14:48 Dyrcona We get blue links on a white background.
14:48 * bshum should have registered a card for the consortiums he visits.
14:48 collum Dyrcona: id's sound good. I just have a tendency to favor classes.
14:49 kmlussier bshum: You can use my dummy account.
14:49 bshum I get the general idea.
14:49 bshum Switched to responsive view on Firefox to see the box spaces
14:50 Dyrcona collum: We use ids a lot in the existing css, and since the ids are in the new html, why not?
14:50 Dyrcona But I get the point, classes can be more flexible, since ids are supposed to be unique per document.
14:50 kmlussier collum++ #testing
14:51 bshum I guess it depends on how prominently you want search to be made to end users :)
14:51 * bshum supposes it could work this way
14:52 * berick just pulled a Kendall Square walking map from his bag
14:52 kmlussier berick: It's a sign that you should come up to visit us. :)
14:52 * bshum is all thumbs though and likely will hit the "Go to..." dropdown every time he tries to hit the "Basic" search text
14:53 * Dyrcona uses a stylus.
14:53 berick kmlussier: absolutely. given the number of kayaks in this photo, I missed some fun when I was there ;)
14:55 * jboyer-isl is starting to wonder if this old UPS will be able to keep things moving should this storm assert it’s will a little more strongly.
14:55 kmlussier berick: I could find some better places for you to kayak than Cambridge.
14:55 berick heh
14:55 berick i don't doubt it
15:00 bshum The "search:" label in strong is tough to read with the green background too. Black on dark green is a bit hard to make out.
15:17 kmlussier bshum: I'm guessing that when she's working to address the issues collum reported, she'll use colors that work best with the green background. But I would recommend adding that kind of feedback to the LP bug since she's not here.
15:17 * dbs recommends wave.webaim.org for accessibility testing for things like contrast
15:18 dbs (but then again, not sure that's going to help for mobile stylesheet. hrm.)
