09:03 pinesol_green kmlussier: The operation succeeded. kmlussier loves coffee.
09:11 rfrasur Oh man...I think coffee might be needed this morning. Or tea. I think I'll go toward the tea instead.

09:12 csharp @more coffee
09:12 pinesol_green csharp: Error: I haven't seen coffee.
09:12 kmlussier I'm drinking tea, but I wish I had coffee.
09:12 csharp pinesol_green: explains a lot ;-)
09:12 pinesol_green csharp: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)
09:12 pinesol_green csharp: Beyond here be dragons.
09:12 rfrasur lol, pinesol_green: you're a bit of a buzz kill at times.
09:12 * kmlussier always wishes she had coffee.
09:13 rfrasur kmlussier: me too. But I wish someone would deliver fresh beans to the library and grind them...and make the coffee...and put it on my desk with the exact ratio of cream and sugar that I might like but haven't found yet.
09:14 rfrasur My dream /= my reality....yet
09:15 jeff unfortunately, the service we use has a limited delivery area. :-) http://www.highergroundstrading.com/31/beans-by-bike
09:21 rfrasur jeff: I'm working on convincing my husband that he'd love to live in Traverse City. He's kinda more of a warm weather kinda guy though. Oy. There must be a genetic therapy for that.
09:22 rfrasur (The 19 degrees this morning was positively balmly and unwelcome)

09:22 jeff not too far off.
09:23 rfrasur Ahh...but you have more snow than us. That's perfect weather for playing outside.

09:36 rfrasur (seriously...a winter weather advisory for 2-4 inches of snow)
09:37 rfrasur I scoff in my own general direction.
09:38 csharp rfrasur: in Atlanta that would close all schools and government agencies and there would be a run on milk, bread, and eggs at all grocery stores ;-)
09:39 rfrasur csharp: maybe we SHOULD move south. We'd look like survivalists or something.
09:39 jeff no run on strawberry pop tarts?
09:39 jeff oh, that's hurricanes -- not snow.

09:40 csharp rfrasur: clearly you missed Zombieland?
09:40 rfrasur well...I might have fallen asleep while my family was watching it.
09:40 jeff "strawberry pop tarts" autosuggests "strawberry pop tarts vegan" followed by "strawberry pop tarts hurricane", so i know I'm not being too obscure here. :-)
09:40 rfrasur It's been on my tv when I was present.

09:50 jeff rfrasur: bikeshed in this sense of the term: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/articles/mailing-list-faq/bikeshed.html
09:50 csharp "well obviously he's barred - that's Coca-Cola red, not Candy Apple red. Duh!"

09:52 rfrasur csharp++ #candy apple red - ha!
09:53 rfrasur and jeff++ #thank you for the definition and that IS funny.
09:55 dbs rfrasur: I'm sure my single-mother mom had doubts that putting her limited income into a computer + modem was actually going to result in anything, after seeing me mostly use it to try and acquire content
09:55 senator dbs: not even brr. more like "ow"
09:56 * berick wonders if dbs sleeps in a tauntaun
09:57 * csharp thought they smelled bad on the outside
09:57 dbs but the content acquisition goal required a ton of technical learning, which was a decent foundation for 'real' technical work later. I think. At least that's how I romanticize my path-to-where-I-am-now
09:57 rfrasur dbs: We never really know what all the ingredients are going to amount to til the kids are done baking (I'm not sure when that process ends, and I'm not advocating cooking children either).
09:57 dbs The weather will only be like this for three more months
09:58 berick csharp: you mean, you thought they smelled bad....................on the outside
09:58 senator heh
09:58 csharp berick++ # accuracy
09:58 dbs rfrasur: true true, I could have turned one wrong corner and have been a star in a Cops episode. Not the kind of star that wears a uniform.
09:58 dbs This is comforting to think of with two children of my own :)
09:59 dbs berick++ csharp++
09:59 dbs The tauntauns moved south long ago.
09:59 rfrasur They probably smell bad on both the outside AND inside...but survival doesn't require pleasant smells.
09:59 afterl dbs: remind me, what is your son's name?
10:00 dbs afterl: Arik - true story, inspired after meeting Araik, who occasionally posts on the EG mailing lists
10:01 afterl Ah, Arik. I thought it was Eric. He was fun to meet.
10:01 rfrasur dbs: I think we're all one step away from the wrong side of the law anyway :D whether we have skills or not. If we're gonna go, it'd be better to be purposeful about it...I think. (I'm also not encouraging illegal behavior unless it's civil disobedience against a repressive government).
10:01 dbs Lynn liked it but wanted to drop the middle 'a', so we did (of course!)
10:01 rfrasur good name
10:02 afterl great kid. I like meeting kids. They're usually entertaining.
10:08 rfrasur If our middlest son gets into Yale (please God), I'm hoping to bring him along to Boston (it's just 2.5 hours to New Haven on the train).
10:08 * rfrasur hasn't figured out what to do with him after that though. All the thinking.
10:09 rfrasur (and who wants to hang out with their mom for a week in a hotel room?)
10:09 * rfrasur doesn't
10:10 * csharp proposes a "teen" program track
10:11 rfrasur that'd be flippin' awesome. kinda. "Not it" for chaperoning.
10:12 dbs aww, afterl, you're sweet. I'm sure he was on his best behaviour around you :)
10:14 afterl kids I like. Teens, on the other hand .... (they've always scared me. Even when I was a teen)
10:15 rfrasur afterl: teens can be scary. It's just a matter of being scarier.
10:15 * rfrasur laughs evilly.
10:17 gmcharlt rfrasur++
10:19 rfrasur btw, if any of you have pull at Yale, I'm not above inappropriate begging.

10:23 csharp my sister in law went to divinity school there, but I don't think that would help ;-)
10:24 afterl rfrasur: thanks for the tip. Be scary. Right. Because teens are like dogs. They smell fear. They pick off the weak ones.

16:06 sseng looking for some evergreen api documention, came across http://evergreen-ils.org/api-reference/, seems to have some broken links, wondering if this is something that is no longer available or are legitimately broken links
16:07 bshum sseng: Err, depends, to which broken link do you refer? The docgen?
16:08 bshum It has to be installed by the sites, and maybe that server isn't up anymore.
16:08 sseng bshum: oh i see
16:08 bshum Easy enough to copy into place though
16:09 bshum It's in OpenSRF
16:09 bshum So you'd just copy it from there to /openils/var/web/opac/extras/..

16:17 Matt___ Is anyone here?
16:17 bshum Matt___: It's a quiet Friday and there's a few folks around.
16:17 Matt___ Hey!
16:17 Matt___ Oh I'm so glad someone's here
16:17 Matt___ :)
16:18 bshum Matt___: Are the same Matt who just wrote to the general mailing list?
16:18 Matt___ yeah
16:18 Matt___ :)
16:18 Matt___ sorry - didn't mean to be rude
16:18 bshum Matt___: Didn't seem rude to me, I'm glad you're able to poke around here for some direct feedback.
16:19 Matt___ :) okay
16:19 Matt___ I just can't get opensrf to install - it's really frustrating
16:19 bshum So, can you tell me a little more about your situation and setup?
16:19 Matt___ I'm obviously doing something wrong
16:19 bshum What linux distributions are you using? Which version of opensrf?
16:19 Matt___ Yes - using Debian Wheezy i386
16:19 Matt___ Opensrf 2.2.1
16:20 Matt___ I also looked at the log files, but can't really make heads or tails out of it
16:22 Matt___ I am correct that I should not install anything, not even postgresql until I get opensrf up and running, right?
16:23 bshum Well, I'm not actually a Debian user with Evergreen (we use Ubuntu here), so I can't say if there's anything wrong with OpenSRF and Wheezy
16:23 Matt___ ah - hmm
16:23 bshum Maybe someone else has thoughts on that (though I would expect it to be working, though I did pause at i386)
16:23 Matt___ I'm wiling to try Ubuntu
16:24 bshum And yes, that's correct, you'll want OpenSRF to run properly first before you install the next steps.
16:24 Matt___ do you know if there is an issue with an x64 v x86 system
16:24 bshum For my part, I've only worked with 64 bit systems
16:24 Matt___ hmm - okay - what version of ubuntu are you using/
16:24 Matt___ ?
16:24 bshum For us, we're using Ubuntu 12.04 server edition.
16:25 Matt___ during install, are you literally only installing the shell
16:25 Matt___ nothing else - or are you running with desktop
16:25 bshum Yeah, for our installations we've only run the server edition. I believe there are some package dependency issues with the desktop editions of Ubuntu.
16:26 Matt___ I know that the server edition wants you to install "pre-determine" servers
16:26 Matt___ Aha! That explains a few things now as to why I couldn't get it to run on Ubuntu
16:26 bshum And we only work with LTS releases
16:26 Matt___ Yeah, what I figured
16:26 bshum So 13.10 probably will do weird stuff too
16:26 Matt___ Okay, what I figured
16:26 Matt___ I think I'm going to attempt the server install again
16:27 bshum If you're still stuck
16:27 Matt___ I think my mistake has been trying to run the gui ontop of things
16:27 bshum You can always attach a copy of your logs (assuming you're either sanitizing it of real login data or just using test examples)
16:27 bshum And maybe something will spark an idea with one of us.
16:27 bshum The "Received no data from server" seems to me like something didn't start quite right.
16:27 Matt___ okay - that sounds great - I'm trying to help my son's school get a library system up and running
16:27 Matt___ yeah that I'm thinking also
16:28 Matt___ cool!
16:28 bshum Oh cool!
16:28 Matt___ I'm going to go back to square one and begin with the Ubuntu LTS server edition
16:28 Matt___ Thanks SO much
16:28 Matt___ this at least gives me a place to start

17:59 hopkinsju I had killed the process since I wasn't running it in the background.
17:59 bshum Hmm
18:00 hopkinsju http://pastebin.com/YfZsVq8B
18:01 bshum Yeah I got through this time, but I'm seeing what you're saying
18:02 bshum You guys use ldirector right? Does this server take part in rotation or is it its own?
18:02 bshum I've seen stuff before where the IP masquerading screwed up the hostname lookup because the server looked to itself and it wasn't running Evergreen
18:03 bshum But then again, your Evergreen ought to be running on the server in question
18:03 hopkinsju We are using ldirectord. It's on it's own. The z3950 server and SIP are running on the same VM. SIP is working fine.
18:03 bshum Like, is missourievergreen.org an alias of the server you're running this action on? That might break things.
18:04 hopkinsju I don't understand what you mean by alias.
18:04 hopkinsju This works, if that means anything http://missourievergreen.org/opac/extras/sru/PBPL/holdings?version=1.1&operation=searchRetrieve&query=chomsky&maximumRecords=0
18:05 bshum Do you get that if you view it on the machine in question?
18:05 hopkinsju lemme see...
18:05 bshum What I meant is that in one of our early systems
18:05 bshum We had a situation where we ran z39.50 on a server that was also acting as a brick in rotation for SIP
18:05 bshum So it conflicted or something
18:06 bshum And z39.50 couldn't read the shared name used by the servers
18:06 bshum I ended up putting z39.50 on its own tiny machine and then pointing it at the IPs directly of different machines
18:06 bshum Rather than relying on the hostnames
18:06 bshum Because something was throwing it all off
18:06 bshum I never did get to the bottom of it
18:07 hopkinsju Hmm. I see what you're saying. That could be it.
18:07 ktomita joined #evergreen
18:08 bshum The z3950 stuff is really light, I ended up putting it on some tiny machine in the corner and just pointing it around at things.
18:09 bshum And if you don't install the full stack of Evergreen (you only need the basics to run it) then it's even simpler.
18:09 bshum Then I just told my ldirector to put requests to the port to that server off on its own and that server then talked to to the shared hostname
18:09 bshum Not sure of the reasonings of why, but it worked, so I didn't get further in
18:11 bshum I gotta jet off home, but good luck hopkinsju. Let me know how it turns out.
