16:19 |
bshum |
So, can you tell me a little more about your situation and setup? |
16:19 |
Matt___ |
I'm obviously doing something wrong |
16:19 |
bshum |
What linux distributions are you using? Which version of opensrf? |
16:19 |
Matt___ |
Yes - using Debian Wheezy i386 |
16:19 |
Matt___ |
Opensrf 2.2.1 |
16:20 |
Matt___ |
I also looked at the log files, but can't really make heads or tails out of it |
16:22 |
Matt___ |
I am correct that I should not install anything, not even postgresql until I get opensrf up and running, right? |
16:23 |
bshum |
Well, I'm not actually a Debian user with Evergreen (we use Ubuntu here), so I can't say if there's anything wrong with OpenSRF and Wheezy |
16:23 |
Matt___ |
ah - hmm |
16:23 |
bshum |
Maybe someone else has thoughts on that (though I would expect it to be working, though I did pause at i386) |
16:23 |
Matt___ |
I'm wiling to try Ubuntu |
16:24 |
bshum |
And yes, that's correct, you'll want OpenSRF to run properly first before you install the next steps. |
16:24 |
Matt___ |
do you know if there is an issue with an x64 v x86 system |
16:24 |
bshum |
For my part, I've only worked with 64 bit systems |
16:24 |
Matt___ |
hmm - okay - what version of ubuntu are you using/ |
16:24 |
Matt___ |
? |
16:24 |
bshum |
For us, we're using Ubuntu 12.04 server edition. |
16:25 |
Matt___ |
during install, are you literally only installing the shell |
16:25 |
Matt___ |
nothing else - or are you running with desktop |
16:25 |
bshum |
Yeah, for our installations we've only run the server edition. I believe there are some package dependency issues with the desktop editions of Ubuntu. |
16:26 |
Matt___ |
I know that the server edition wants you to install "pre-determine" servers |
16:26 |
Matt___ |
Aha! That explains a few things now as to why I couldn't get it to run on Ubuntu |
16:26 |
bshum |
And we only work with LTS releases |
16:26 |
Matt___ |
Yeah, what I figured |
16:26 |
bshum |
So 13.10 probably will do weird stuff too |
16:26 |
Matt___ |
Okay, what I figured |
16:26 |
Matt___ |
I think I'm going to attempt the server install again |
16:27 |
bshum |
If you're still stuck |
16:27 |
Matt___ |
I think my mistake has been trying to run the gui ontop of things |
16:27 |
bshum |
You can always attach a copy of your logs (assuming you're either sanitizing it of real login data or just using test examples) |
16:27 |
bshum |
And maybe something will spark an idea with one of us. |
16:27 |
bshum |
The "Received no data from server" seems to me like something didn't start quite right. |
16:27 |

Matt___ |

I'm going to go back to square one and begin with the Ubuntu LTS server edition |

I've been working on setting up the z39.50 server and am being plagued by this error: [109] Database unavailable -- v2 addinfo 'http://missourievergreen.org/opac/extras/sru |
17:24 |
hopkinsju |
Is there better documentation about setting up *and using* this thing than http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.1/html/Z3950serversupport.html |
17:27 |
hopkinsju |
I'm able to connect with yaz-client, and I've got the server running via 'simple2zoom -c oils_z3950.xml -- -f oils_yaz.xml' |
17:28 |
hopkinsju |
The only thing I changed from the example files is the zurl & database name in oils_z3950.xml |
17:30 |
hopkinsju |
output of simple2zoom (using the query from the docs) is "16:29:45-13/12 simple2zoom(1) [request] Search ME ERROR 109 1 1+0 RPN @attrset Bib-1 "dead zone"" |

Can anyone share their config files with me, shed any light, or point me towards documentation? |
17:34 |
bshum |
hopkinsju: So, what Linux distribution are you using? |
17:34 |
bshum |
And what's the version of Evergreen |
17:35 |
bshum |
And what version of yaz? |
17:35 |
hopkinsju |
bshum: debian squeeze, EG 2.4.1, Yaz 4.2.32 |
17:42 |
bshum |
hopkinsju: Hm, well it's not what I was thinking then |
17:42 |
bshum |
I know there's weird yaz issues with Ubuntu systems |
17:43 |
bshum |
Can you paste your yaz config? |
17:43 |
hopkinsju |
Sure thing. |
17:43 |
bshum |
To a paste somewhere |
17:43 |
bshum |
I think those instructions are still supposed to work |
17:43 |
bshum |
Unrelated, Dyrcona++ |
17:44 |
bshum |
@later tell Dyrcona 40 minutes for no item extract. AMAZING. |

bshum: When you asked about my yaz version - did you mean the yaz-client I was connecting with? Because that's the Mac yaz-client at 4.2.63 |
17:46 |
hopkinsju |
Maybe you'd have better luck? open missourievergreen.org:9999/ME |
17:58 |

hopkinsju: Connection was refused, so i'm assuming firewall |
17:58 |
bshum |
Your paste looks right to me |
17:58 |
hopkinsju |
bshum: Hmm. I'm inside the network, so I don't have that problem. Let me look at it though. |
17:59 |
hopkinsju |
bshum: There you go, try again? |
17:59 |
hopkinsju |
I had killed the process since I wasn't running it in the background. |
17:59 |
bshum |
Hmm |

Yeah I got through this time, but I'm seeing what you're saying |
18:02 |
bshum |
You guys use ldirector right? Does this server take part in rotation or is it its own? |
18:02 |
bshum |
I've seen stuff before where the IP masquerading screwed up the hostname lookup because the server looked to itself and it wasn't running Evergreen |
18:03 |
bshum |
But then again, your Evergreen ought to be running on the server in question |
18:03 |
hopkinsju |
We are using ldirectord. It's on it's own. The z3950 server and SIP are running on the same VM. SIP is working fine. |
18:03 |
bshum |
Like, is missourievergreen.org an alias of the server you're running this action on? That might break things. |
18:04 |
hopkinsju |
I don't understand what you mean by alias. |
18:04 |
hopkinsju |
This works, if that means anything http://missourievergreen.org/opac/extras/sru/PBPL/holdings?version=1.1&operation=searchRetrieve&query=chomsky&maximumRecords=0 |
18:05 |
bshum |
Do you get that if you view it on the machine in question? |
18:05 |
hopkinsju |
lemme see... |
18:05 |
bshum |
What I meant is that in one of our early systems |
18:05 |
bshum |
We had a situation where we ran z39.50 on a server that was also acting as a brick in rotation for SIP |
18:05 |
bshum |
So it conflicted or something |
18:06 |
bshum |
And z39.50 couldn't read the shared name used by the servers |
18:06 |
bshum |
I ended up putting z39.50 on its own tiny machine and then pointing it at the IPs directly of different machines |
18:06 |
bshum |
Rather than relying on the hostnames |
18:06 |
bshum |
Because something was throwing it all off |
18:06 |
bshum |
I never did get to the bottom of it |
18:07 |
hopkinsju |
Hmm. I see what you're saying. That could be it. |

The z3950 stuff is really light, I ended up putting it on some tiny machine in the corner and just pointing it around at things. |
18:09 |
bshum |
And if you don't install the full stack of Evergreen (you only need the basics to run it) then it's even simpler. |
18:09 |
bshum |
Then I just told my ldirector to put requests to the port to that server off on its own and that server then talked to to the shared hostname |
18:09 |
bshum |
Not sure of the reasonings of why, but it worked, so I didn't get further in |
18:11 |
bshum |
I gotta jet off home, but good luck hopkinsju. Let me know how it turns out. |
18:12 |
hopkinsju |
Thanks! |
