09:49 csharp anyone here using address alerts?
09:50 csharp I'm seeking documentation to how/why they are used
09:53 bshum If memory serves, I believe those are used for validating address data.  Basically warn if it matches a particular set of criteria.
09:54 bshum Something like, if the town matches A, then show alert about how A is no longer a member and that actually it's now covered by town B.  Or other random messages.
09:55 bshum Or like if you're in a particular zip code and there needs to be an alert of some kind.
09:57 bshum Or maybe I'm just making that up and that's not the feature you're talking about at all...
09:58 bshum Oh yeah, Address Alert, like in local admin?
09:58 bshum csharp: That's a 2.2 feature:  http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.2/_new_features.html
09:58 bshum I think that's the only place it gets a mention
10:00 bshum csharp: Also see notes in the original bug ticket on that feature:  https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/898248
10:00 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 898248 in Evergreen "Address alert in patron registration" (affected: 1, heat: 6) [Wishlist,Fix released]
10:00 bshum berick gives a few examples of how to use it.
10:04 * berick thinks bshum summed it up nicely
10:06 jboyer-isl Wait, no.
10:06 jboyer-isl Oops. wrong window.
10:11 bshum berick: The only thing I'm unsure is whether this feature still works in 2.3+.  With those, the comments portion of the registration window don't always display properly.  (thinking of the field documentation bits that don't work right now)
10:11 bshum I'd have to look closer to see how it renders.
10:11 hopkinsju joined #evergreen
10:12 berick bshum: oh, i see, i wasn't aware stuff was busted in there.
10:13 bshum berick: We used to use field docs, but after our upgrade to newer masters (around 2.3's time), it stopped working.
10:13 bshum Nobody missed it enough to really complain yet though.
10:13 bshum Plus there's the new YAOUS to show examples next to all the stuff we used to use field docs for showing examples for.
10:14 bshum But yeah, I'm not entirely sure the CSS renders right for the comments anymore.
10:14 * bshum hasn't tested it lately
10:18 bshum if I get a moment later, I'll poke at it some and file a bug if I still see issues.
10:18 * bshum wanders off for meetings
10:38 csharp bshum++ berick++ # thanks

10:54 csharp oh cool - now I see the alert
10:55 tsbere Fun: Staff client fails to validate server. Computer next to it is fine. Internet works. Etc and so forth.
10:55 tsbere Reason? The clock was wrong on the computer. >_>
10:56 jboyer-isl tsbere: my favorite ssl failure mode.
10:57 tsbere jboyer-isl: Wouldn't have been a problem if our cert wasn't a couple weeks away from expiring. >_>
10:59 jboyer-isl Oh. I've not heard of machines failing because they're from the future. I usually see that once the clock battery dies. "This cert isn't valid for 20 years! I'm not talking to them."
11:02 csharp heh
11:03 csharp I remember a patron who called us complaining that all of his holds were being cancelled right after he placed them
11:03 csharp it was because his clock was over a year off and all the entered expire dates were in the past
11:04 csharp (took a while to track that down)
11:05 jboyer-isl You mess with the timestream, you get the timehorns.
11:05 csharp unrelated to that issue, but when I'd call the guy, he'd pick up the phone and not say anything, then I'd hear a *splat* and he'd say "you caught me brushing my teeth!"
11:05 csharp that happened more than once...
11:05 remingtron csharp: I cannot stop laughing
11:06 csharp he was a weird dude ;-)
11:07 * csharp still thinks someone would have a gold mine on their hands with a sitcom set in a public library
11:08 csharp you wouldn't even have to make things up
11:09 jboyer-isl Someone actually wrote and shopped around a script for that. It didn't get picked up and now just sits in the ibooks store.
11:10 csharp heh - I didn't know that
11:12 jboyer-isl "The Library" by Scott Douglas and Andy Sweat, from 2009. It wasn't bad, but I don't think I'd tune in each week.
11:12 csharp I think Unshelved should just rework some of its strips into a show and go for it
11:13 jboyer-isl Animated webisodes. It's a viable business model if you can say the word webisodes without throwing up.
11:13 csharp jboyer-isl++
11:14 jboyer-isl It's a shame I missed halloween: Webinars about webisodes. The way of the future!

11:15 jboyer-isl I like webisodinars.

13:29 rfrasur is there anyone in here who could give me some info/answer questions about FulfILLment?
13:30 bshum rfrasur: There might be a few folks who know a thing or two
13:30 bshum There's also a #fulfillment IRC channel, but it's pretty quiet over there
13:30 rfrasur also, jboyer-isl: is that nice little notifications button not on the splash screen yet?
13:30 rfrasur bshum: do you know who I should ping?
13:30 berick rfrasur: probably best to ask here
13:31 bshum It's logged in both places
13:31 rfrasur okay...my question is, is it supposed to be a union catalog? and does it include some of the eg functionality or is it completely independent code? (is there such a thing?)
13:32 berick rfrasur: it is supposed to be a union catalog and it's basically Evergreen w/ some additions and changes
13:32 jboyer-isl rfrausr: I didn't realize what I was getting into. I thought the notices would be laid out similar to my reconciler (1 sys = 1 directory). I was crazy wrong. There are some systems that have a single directory, some that have one for each location, I think I saw one that had both. That's got to be cleaned up before I can stick it in the client. :(
13:33 rfrasur jboyer-isl: no worries.  I just noticed it not there as I was looking at the new screen.  It's cool.
13:34 rfrasur berick: is it still in development? dead in the water (is code ever dead?)? a pipe dream?
13:35 berick rfrasur: it's still in development.  graced and I have submitted an EG talk proposal on FF
13:35 graced rfrasur: but it works and we're making it pretty now...
13:37 rfrasur okay...thank you.  It came up in a meeting I was in this morning and realized that I don't know enough about it.
13:37 graced rfrasur: feel free to email me for any details - or ask here, whichever. :-)
13:38 rfrasur graced: thank you.  As these conversations come up more locally, I'm sure I'll have more questions.  I get the basic gist of the thing for now.
13:39 graced cool
13:42 rfrasur berick: you've submitted a talk for the conference?
13:43 graced rfrasur: yes berick and I submitted a co-presented talk (and demo!) on FulfILLment for EG 2014.
13:44 rfrasur ahhh, gotcha.  lovely.  Hope it gets chosen.  I'd like to go to it.
13:45 graced I'd like to present it! I'm really excited about FulfILLment.
13:45 phasefx_ we be fILL'n
13:46 rfrasur lol, nice
13:46 rfrasur phasefx_++
13:46 berick rfrasur: i submitted 1.5 talks ;)
13:46 rfrasur lol, 1.5.  Nice.
13:47 * rfrasur is trying to talk less.
13:47 graced and let's face it, since I am a chatty cathy, it's really only 1.15 talks for berick

14:04 eeevil anyone else having trouble pushing code to the working repo?
14:06 pastebot "eeevil" at 64.57.241.14 pasted "can't push to the working repo" (11 lines) at http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/33
14:07 eeevil nevermind ... I'm dumb, and dbwells helpfully pointed it out
14:08 rfrasur hehe, always good to have a friend point out our dumbness
14:08 eeevil dbwells: btw, there's that branch ;)

14:32 bshum gmcharlt: http://evergreen-ils.org/sfc/ does exist, but we don't link to it on any menu I can find at the moment.  I think the reason is that I was still wrestling with fixing the image size and figuring out how to present all the information...
14:33 gmcharlt bshum: I suggesting removing the Google checkout link and adding it to the menu soonish
14:33 gmcharlt we can always fine-tune it later
14:34 bshum gmcharlt: Sounds like a good plan.  I'll go poke at the page now and then get the link up there.  Fine-tuning it can go onto the next web team meeting agenda (not that I know when the next meeting is)
14:37 csharp I'm beginning to look at the link checker and am looking for sane defaults for the four related library settings
14:39 csharp right now I have max redirect attempts set to 4, max wait time for url lookup, 30 secs, number of parallel URLs to lookup: 10, and number of seconds between URL test attempts: 2
14:39 csharp if you're using this, would you mind sharing your settings?
14:40 bshum gmcharlt: I'm going to rename that page from "sfc" to "conservancy" since we're not linking to it yet anyways, but also because of the name changes from ages back
14:41 gmcharlt sounds good

15:02 bshum gmcharlt: http://evergreen-ils.org/conservancy is the "slightly" retouched page.
15:02 bshum I'll link it off the main "About Us" menu link now.
15:02 gmcharlt bshum++
15:03 bshum And done.
15:03 RoganH So Google Checkout is finally dead (or at least officially dying).
15:04 RoganH I've had the tragedy of spending all day taste testing BBQ for the catering for our south east conference.  A horrible work day.
15:05 bshum RoganH: That just makes me want to book a flight south.
15:05 gmcharlt RoganH: we all would have been happy to share some of the load
15:05 gmcharlt all you had to do was ask
15:05 RoganH gmcharlt: I'd be glad to have you.
15:05 RoganH bshum: you too, glad to have you here
15:06 dbs bshum: need a space in "contactaccounting"
15:07 bshum Gah
15:07 bshum dbs: I'm on it
15:07 csharp bshum: there's talk of a southeastern regional EG conference somewhere in Carolina barbeque land ;-)
15:08 bshum dbs: Should be better now.
15:08 * rfrasur likes bbque

15:21 rfrasur Navigating that fine line between informative and confrontational is hard.
15:38 RoganH bshum: got a sec?
15:39 bshum RoganH: Sure, what's up?
15:40 RoganH bshum: our south east conference is official so ...
15:40 RoganH bshum: following up on the decision in the web group a few months ago we need to spin up serec.evergreen-ils.org
15:43 bshum RoganH: This is just my thinking (and everyone else is welcome to comment on this)...
15:48 bshum RoganH: For a conference page, I'm thinking maybe to follow what we did with EG2014
15:48 bshum And go with http://evergreen-ils.org/conference/eg14/
15:48 bshum Except instead of eg14, like serec14
15:48 RoganH Do it as a sub page?
15:48 bshum And then link to it on the main conferences page as an "upcoming conference"
15:48 bshum Yeah, that's just my gut feeling
15:48 bshum But what do others think?
15:49 RoganH (my wordpress terminology is probably off but yes, that's what I was thinking you meant)
15:49 RoganH I'm fine with that.  So long as it's easy to reach I really don't care.
15:49 RoganH I can do that in Wordpress and not bother you as well.  Bonus :)
15:50 bshum Heh
15:50 bshum Yeah, I think that'll work best
15:51 bshum And would fit the pattern we're developing for the current conference and future ones
15:51 RoganH Deal.  I'll do that.
