02:22 rangi bshum: off the top of your head, how many circ requests does bibliomation do in a year?
02:26 bshum rangi: Err, maybe 3.5 or so.
02:27 bshum I could run a little sql to see actually. Now I'm wondering.
02:27 rangi hehe
02:28 rangi someone was asking on the koha list for a koha library do 10 million + checkouts in a year, afaik one doesnt exist
02:28 bshum Oh, I'm a little off I guess.
02:28 rangi which got me thinking, 10million a year is a lot, i wonder how many consortium manage that
02:28 bshum 5846690 in 2012.
02:28 rangi cool thanks
02:28 bshum Roughly
02:31 bshum rangi: PINES listed 16 million for their stats page:  http://pines.georgialibraries.org/fy13-pines-consortium-data

10:26 rfrasur My oldest son is starting his freshman year in college next week.  Just saying.
10:26 rfrasur that is all
10:39 jcamins rfrasur: my second-youngest brother is starting his sophomore year of college, and my next brother finished a Masters degree in May.
10:40 rfrasur Does that mean that I'm nearly old enough to be their mother?
10:41 * rfrasur really needs to start acting more mature.
10:42 csharp jboyer-isl: I've been around the block and back with slony, so if you have question, let me know ;-)
10:43 csharp s/question/questions/
10:43 rfrasur Of course, my sister is also starting her sophomore year of college and is 30...so...yeah.
10:43 jboyer-isl I can't seem to impress upon it that I really, really want it to alter a table. execute script coming up blank ,etc.
10:44 csharp hmm
10:44 jboyer-isl I'm so ready to move to Pg streaming replication that I can't stand it.
10:45 csharp yeah - we're going back and forth on whether we're moving that way
10:45 Callender_ joined #evergreen
10:45 * csharp likes being able to exclude tables that get replicated (e.g. auditor)
10:47 jboyer-isl I suppose. I'd take a bandwidth hit for improved function though. This table is small enough that I'm only an hour or so away from nuking it all and starting over from create table. >:(
10:47 jboyer-isl I guess it's not fair to say "improved function." "Massive, undeniable simplification" is more like it.
10:48 * _bott_ is loving streaming replication
10:48 * eeevil loves upgrades via slony ... there are benefits :)
10:48 mmorgan joined #evergreen
10:49 _bott_ there are certain dislikes, but the simplification is very nice
10:50 jboyer-isl _bott_: what are some of the issues it's caused?
10:50 eeevil once native streaming changesets arrive, or someone writes (stable) logical rep atop streaming (upgrades!), I'll ditch slony. maybe :)
10:51 eeevil s/or/and/
10:52 _bott_ jboyer-isl: Nothing really caused, just the noted "all or nothing", if I recall correctly, all max_users need to match across replicas, just little things.
10:53 _bott_ my slony-foo was never near that of eeevil:, I'm sure

10:53 jboyer-isl Ah, ok. It's the all-or-nothing that I really want, and I will hopefully have the luxury of a long test period before it has to go live to shake out any config stuff. :)
10:53 paxed <description>Classification or call number that is taken from or . The brackets that
10:54 paxed en-US marc edit tooltip for 050
10:54 * paxed files a bug
10:55 gmcharlt so, the Library of Congress is Voldemort? ;)
10:55 eeevil jboyer-isl: there's also the drawback of replication-caused query timeout (or its corollary, SELECT-caused replication lag) which is less of an issue with slony
10:57 jboyer-isl eeevil: Are those problems you've seen higher traffic Eg sites hit, or are they more things to watch for when working in psql?
10:58 gmcharlt hmm, time to update the tooltips to MARC21 update #16
10:58 paxed gmcharlt: should i file the bug?
10:58 eeevil gmcharlt: or it's made costumes used to scare kids that unwittingly live in a colonial reenactment commune...
10:59 gmcharlt paxed: I'll open a bug for the general update and include your observation about LC having been dropped from the text

10:59 paxed gmcharlt: bug 1210167
10:59 eeevil jboyer-isl: oh, I've seen both. and high traffic is not necessarily required. just the odd, unfortunate long running query on a replica
10:59 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1210167 in Evergreen "en-US marc editor tooltip for 050" (affected: 1, heat: 6) [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1210167
11:00 eeevil jboyer-isl: like a report. or a manual query to look for stuff "on the backup system", or a long-running search on a front-facing replica
11:01 jboyer-isl I see.
11:01 * dbs found those problems far less dramatic in 9.1
11:01 eeevil dbs: and when you tuned replication params appropriately, instead of ignoring advice ;)
11:01 jboyer-isl We wouldn't be using it until at least 9.2, possibly 9.3 depending on when it's out.
11:02 jboyer-isl I assume you're referring to the sync vs. async options?
11:02 dbs eeevil: true 'nuff :)
11:02 dbs jboyer-isl: basically, never sync. never. :)
11:02 eeevil jboyer-isl: oh, async all the way for EG
11:02 eeevil unless you have a whole farm of replicas
11:03 jboyer-isl I had that figured from the start, but I could see loads of issues if sync was used. :)
11:03 eeevil and you have a legal requirement to never be without at least one up-to-date replica
