"Do It Again" & "Dirty Work" seem like appropriate songs for building yet another Ubuntu 24.04 virtual machine. |

@eightball are we fools to do your dirty work oh yeah? |

@eightball Where are you drivin'? |

BtW, postgresql-common on Ubuntu has a way to add the apt repository. I should check if Debian does that too. We might want to use that if we're not already. |

I think it's on Debian, too. I'll fire up a trixie vm and have a look. |

Too bad make -j doesn't work with Evergreen. I've been meaning to fix that, but tuits... |

Well, bummer. I'm still getting a blank screen when I go to the staff client on my 3.16.2 branch. I guess the problem is not all the Redis branch's fault. |
| 13:24 |
Dyrcona |
Also, I think I'm going to find the thing that's sending logs to syslog and turn that off. |
| 13:25 |
mmorgan |
Dyrcona: What happens when you refresh the page? |
| 13:25 |
Dyrcona |
Still blank, even after Empty Cache and Hard Reload. Websockets is running. |
| 13:26 |
mmorgan |
Ok. Not the Welcome to Webby screen. |
| 13:26 |
Dyrcona |
Though the console says websocket connection failed. |
| 13:27 |
Dyrcona |
Maybe I messed up the option to set the websockets port. We need to make it stop and scream loudly if you pass an invalid option to configure. |
| 13:30 |
Dyrcona |
How come I can't find it with `grep -r _PORT /openils/var/web/js`? |
| 13:33 |
Dyrcona |
Looking in config.log alot of the autoconf features tests are failing. |

Hi, all. After upgrading to 3.16.1, getting an error in Vandelay "unable to read MARC file." It's only 14KB in size, and open-ils.vandelay > app_settings > importer is set to /tmp, which should make any permissions errors irrelevant. Anyone else run into this? |

| 16:25 |
csharp_ |
abowling: is the file actually in /tmp? |
| 16:26 |
abowling |
csharp_, I *think* it's being purged on the failure (??) |
| 16:26 |
abowling |
But no, it is not there after the error |
| 16:27 |
csharp_ |
hmm |
| 16:27 |
csharp_ |
abowling: single server? |
| 16:27 |
abowling |
Yeah. This is one of those things that is probably really simple, but is becoming a huge PITA. It happens on every file. |
| 16:28 |
abowling |
Yes, standalone instance. |
| 16:29 |
csharp_ |
maybe try creating a directory under /openils (ours is /openils/var/data/vandelay/) writable by the opensrf user and update opensrf.xml to know about it? |
| 16:29 |
abowling |
Yeah. That was exactly my next thought. |
| 16:33 |
abowling |
csharp_:And voila! |
| 16:33 |
abowling |
no damn clue why it won't work on /tmp now, but that fixed it |
| 16:34 |
csharp_ |
whoohoo! |
| 16:37 |
abowling |
Yep! |
| 16:38 |
abowling |
P.S. There was an OS upgrade, as well. Now I've got some later digging to do on what changed it so /tmp won't work. |
| 16:39 |
csharp_ |
@who moved abowling's /tmp? |
| 16:39 |
pinesol |
beardicus moved abowling's /tmp. |
| 16:40 |
Bmagic |
/tmp has received some security concerns in recent years, and certain OSes are taking on the internet's advice which is to make it read-only or restricted in different ways. And deleted nightly/reboots |
| 16:42 |
Bmagic |
Don't we have a bug somewhere about this? "Stop using /tmp" |
| 16:43 |
abowling |
Bmagic: Probably...and I probably missed it. ;) Nevertheless, I think that's definitely what's going on. Noble doesn't like what Bionic would allow. |

/openils/var/tmp is another possibly alternative |
| 16:55 |
Dyrcona |
possibly? yes, it's possibly an alternative at 5 minutes of 5 on a Friday, it's all possibility. |
| 16:57 |
Dyrcona |
Some of the things we put in /tmp, the pid files for the fine generator and hold targter for example, should probably go in /openils/var/run |
| 16:57 |
Dyrcona |
That deserves a LP, but next week. That's not a possibility at 3 minutes of 5 on a Friday. :) |
