09:48 csharp_ jeff: that was my first movie ever at the theater - I thought it was Peach Dragon
09:56 Dyrcona "Do It Again" & "Dirty Work" seem like appropriate songs for building yet another Ubuntu 24.04 virtual machine.
09:59 csharp_ @eightball are we fools to do your dirty work oh yeah?
09:59 pinesol csharp_: In your dreams.
10:01 Dyrcona sudo your_dirty_work
10:01 Dyrcona "Kings" is playing now.
10:05 Dyrcona @eightball Where are you drivin'?
10:05 pinesol Dyrcona: I doubt it very much.
10:10 Dyrcona BtW, postgresql-common on Ubuntu has a way to add the apt repository. I should check if Debian does that too. We might want to use that if we're not already.
10:15 csharp_ Dyrcona: huh - I never knew that
10:15 Dyrcona /usr/share/postgresql-common/pgdg/apt.postgresql.org.sh
10:16 Dyrcona I think it's on Debian, too. I'll fire up a trixie vm and have a look.
10:18 Dyrcona Yeahp.
10:19 Dyrcona I'll make a Lp when I get to it.
10:22 csharp_ Dyrcona++
10:30 Dyrcona oops. forgot to set the timezone. Debian still asks during installation, but Ubuntu stopped doing that.
10:38 Dyrcona `make -j16` and... it's done.
10:38 Dyrcona My
10:38 Dyrcona The VM has 16 cores, why not use them?
10:38 Dyrcona Too bad make -j doesn't work with Evergreen. I've been meaning to fix that, but tuits...

11:00 jeff most launchpad services were back up shortly before 2 AM this morning. API recovered about a half hour later.

12:36 mmorgan @who fixed Launchpad?
12:36 pinesol ejk fixed Launchpad.
13:24 Dyrcona Well, bummer. I'm still getting a blank screen when I go to the staff client on my 3.16.2 branch. I guess the problem is not all the Redis branch's fault.
13:24 Dyrcona Also, I think I'm going to find the thing that's sending logs to syslog and turn that off.
13:25 mmorgan Dyrcona: What happens when you refresh the page?
13:25 Dyrcona Still blank, even after Empty Cache and Hard Reload. Websockets is running.
13:26 mmorgan Ok. Not the Welcome to Webby screen.
13:26 Dyrcona Though the console says websocket connection failed.
13:27 Dyrcona Maybe I messed up the option to set the websockets port. We need to make it stop and scream loudly if you pass an invalid option to configure.
13:30 Dyrcona How come I can't find it with `grep -r _PORT /openils/var/web/js`?
13:33 Dyrcona Looking in config.log alot of the autoconf features tests are failing.
13:37 csharp_ Dyrcona: grep -r _PORT /openils/lib/javascript/
13:37 Dyrcona csharp_++ I set the port correctly.
13:39 Dyrcona Well, everything ws running, but I just restarted websocketd, nginx, and apache, and it's working, now.
13:39 Dyrcona s/ws/was/
13:39 Dyrcona mmorgain++
13:40 Dyrcona No Redis error this time. :)
13:47 Dyrcona oops. I meant mmorgan++
13:49 Dyrcona I should have mentioned that I plan to upgrade it to 3.16.3 after it's released. Oh well.

14:02 Dyrcona Oof... I just botched my local main branch by swapping the parameters to a rebase.
14:04 Dyrcona Easy enough to fix.
14:05 * Dyrcona may start using merge in my custom branches to avoid force pushing and filling the remote repository with dangling objects.

14:18 Dyrcona csharp_: Our Quipu customization for display seems to be working. They don't have a test system set up for me to try the other changes, but I suspect that they'll still work.
14:23 Dyrcona Hm... ChiliFresh isn't working. I thought I backported the code...
14:24 csharp_ Dyrcona: yeah, we're asking for some sort of test
14:25 Dyrcona We intend to ask Quipu for a test also.
14:25 Dyrcona I think my issue is memcached now...
14:25 Dyrcona It likely has the 404/no images cached or something like that.
14:26 Dyrcona Yeahp. Records that I haven't viewed yet are getting covers.
14:26 Dyrcona For the logs, I had forgotten to enable ChiliFresh in opensrf.xml.
14:28 pinesol News from commits: LP#2137275 Patron Summary Alternating Colors <http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=commitdiff;h=bb81c79fab3aad4e0fb45242373fd014aebe8acc>
14:28 * Dyrcona adds that change to the custom branch. Might as well revert the Content Cafe credentials, since it is no more AFAIK.
14:49 Dyrcona Has anyone made a Lp to remove ContentCafe, yet?

15:56 abowling Hi, all. After upgrading to 3.16.1, getting an error in Vandelay "unable to read MARC file." It's only 14KB in size, and open-ils.vandelay > app_settings > importer is set to /tmp, which should make any permissions errors irrelevant. Anyone else run into this?
15:58 abowling :q
15:58 abowling :q
16:25 csharp_ abowling: is the file actually in /tmp?
16:26 abowling csharp_, I *think* it's being purged on the failure (??)
16:26 abowling But no, it is not there after the error
16:27 csharp_ hmm
16:27 csharp_ abowling: single server?
16:27 abowling Yeah. This is one of those things that is probably really simple, but is becoming a huge PITA. It happens on every file.
16:28 abowling Yes, standalone instance.
16:29 csharp_ maybe try creating a directory under /openils (ours is /openils/var/data/vandelay/) writable by the opensrf user and update opensrf.xml to know about it?
16:29 abowling Yeah. That was exactly my next thought.
16:33 abowling csharp_:And voila!
16:33 abowling no damn clue why it won't work on /tmp now, but that fixed it
16:34 csharp_ whoohoo!
16:37 abowling Yep!
16:38 abowling P.S. There was an OS upgrade, as well. Now I've got some later digging to do on what changed it so /tmp won't work.
16:39 csharp_ @who moved abowling's /tmp?
16:39 pinesol beardicus moved abowling's /tmp.
16:40 Bmagic /tmp has received some security concerns in recent years, and certain OSes are taking on the internet's advice which is to make it read-only or restricted in different ways. And deleted nightly/reboots
16:42 Bmagic Don't we have a bug somewhere about this? "Stop using /tmp"
16:43 abowling Bmagic: Probably...and I probably missed it. ;) Nevertheless, I think that's definitely what's going on. Noble doesn't like what Bionic would allow.
16:44 Bmagic https://itsfoss.gitlab.io/blog/what-are-correct-permissions-for--tmp--i-unintentionally-set-it-all-public-recursively/
16:53 Dyrcona What Bmagic said.
16:53 Dyrcona :)
16:55 Dyrcona /openils/var/tmp is another possibly alternative
16:55 Dyrcona possibly? yes, it's possibly an alternative at 5 minutes of 5 on a Friday, it's all possibility.
16:57 Dyrcona Some of the things we put in /tmp, the pid files for the fine generator and hold targter for example, should probably go in /openils/var/run
16:57 Dyrcona That deserves a LP, but next week. That's not a possibility at 3 minutes of 5 on a Friday. :)
16:58 * Dyrcona poofs out.

17:05 jeffdavis I think the /tmp permission thing was the first time I really wanted to shake my fist at systemd.
17:07 jeffdavis Nothing like introducing a breaking change to the core filesystem hierarchy during an OS upgrade.
17:07 jeffdavis </curmudgeon>
17:22 * jmurray-isl randomly imagines distros singing Twisted Sister's "We're not gonna take it" concerning potential security issues with /tmp usage.
