Hi, what permission do I need to update an item's status from "in transit" during circulation? |

Lorne: I think it would be ABORT_TRANSIT |

Thanks sandbergja, I just gave the permission and tried to update item in Holdings Editor to "Available" from "In transit". (Transit List moving from CONS to BR1). When I save, the item still appears as "in transit". |

in other words, I am trying to check a book back in & failing :D |

What happens if you check it in on the typical check in screen (rather than the holdings editor)? |
| 12:17 |
sandbergja |
I would expect the holdings editor to *NOT* want to let you change an in-transit item to available, regardless of permission |

I believe the "In transit" status has some specific protections to avoid some kind of dangling transit in the system |

it checks the book in, but leaves it "in transit" from CONS to BR1. |

if you're not checking the item in at its destination the item will stay in transit and your only option to force it out of transit is to use the Cancel Transit option from teh Check In actions menu or the Transit List |

I think that other options for aborting a transit include retargeting the hold associated with the transit (if it is a hold transit), or checking the item OUT to someone. Both may require additional permissions that you may or may not have at the necessary scope/level. |

Oh, so I have to sign out of CONS as an admin in staff console & sign into BR1, then try to check the book in |
| 12:25 |
jihpringle |
yes, if you want to complete the transit |
