lupin's filesystem setup for the webstuff is... non-standard |
| 12:15 |
csharp_ |
I think the hardest part of this will be untangling that into something sane on the replacement server |
| 12:16 |
csharp_ |
(I'll acknowledge that there are almost certainly historical reasons why the web stuff was stored in /root, but technical debt nonetheless) |
| 12:19 |
sleary |
root?! >.< |
| 12:33 |
Dyrcona |
sleary: The files are not hosted from there, just stored there. Looks like it just how the things were expanded when installed. |
| 12:35 |
csharp_ |
yeah, it would have been organic over years and disparate admins |
| 12:42 |
Dyrcona |
Ooh. I haven't logged into eg-web since 2019. |
| 12:43 |
csharp_ |
Dyrcona: I had to upgrade it from 20.04 to 24.04 |
| 12:43 |
csharp_ |
lots of dust to blow off, but it's still, ahhh, new |
| 12:43 |
Dyrcona |
That's what I was logging in to check: what O/S release it's on. |

the approach I did before was to rsync basically everything under /var/www/ into /var/www/html/ on the new host, treating the symlinks as if they were actual directories |
| 12:45 |
csharp_ |
but... that's not right either - we probably don't want all that stuff under the webserver dir |
| 12:45 |
csharp_ |
anyway |
| 12:46 |
csharp_ |
probably also a better way to store/serve the Evergreen/OpenSRF archived releases |
| 12:47 |
Dyrcona |
Yeah, we might need to take it on a case by case basis. I think Word Press might be difficult. I'm not sure how you upgrade, etc. |
| 12:48 |
csharp_ |
the good thing about WP is that it's kind of it's own thing - once installed, upgrades via GUI are possible, for instance (like dokuwiki) |
| 12:48 |
csharp_ |
but we have to keep the OS dependencies in line with it - hence sleary's request |
| 12:49 |
Dyrcona |
Yeah. |
| 12:50 |
Dyrcona |
It's better to finally transition to the "new" VM rather than to keep upgrading Lupin. |
