10:37 dbriem thanks to everyone who took time to work on my precat regression

10:38 dbriem sandbergja++
10:38 redavis Thank YOU for reporting it. It'll make it into the maintenance releases in a couple weeks.
10:39 redavis And thanks to the collaborative code review for fumbling/fussing our way through the verification and eeevil++ for the patch.
10:44 dbriem well, by "my" i meant my pr caused it, not sure if the reporter's on irc, but thanks to Steve, too
10:45 redavis lol, well...that happens, and it was a good thing to get us thinking about interfaces and penalties and all that.
10:46 redavis Steve is often an unsung hero. Or has been for me, for sure.

10:56 JBoyer Dewey Cutter is goth as hell; their cover of Hurt will angry-cry your ennui to dust and then make tattoo ink out of it because thermal labels fade, just like joy.
10:56 sandbergja joined #evergreen
10:56 redavis JBoyer++ Thank you!! You just reminded me to do something!
10:57 redavis Also...thermal label--
10:57 JBoyer That has got to be a weird thing to have that remind you of it.
10:58 sleary "I will let you down. I will make you... HURT." Yeah, that's the theme song of label printers.
10:58 redavis Right? But, nonetheless. I need to contact Debbie about Evergreen swag/t-shirt stock. How that connected? The miracle of the human brain...or something.
10:59 redavis Also, I crashed the ECDI website this morning, so I'm basically done for the day.
11:00 * redavis fixed it...but it doesn't matter. The trauma persists.

11:51 jeff JBoyer's words about powdered ennui brought to mind someone's recent rant about electronic records, and their preference for "signing everything using quill pens made from swan or raven feather and in black ink tinged with crushed spiders"
11:56 * Dyrcona prefers oak gall with cochineal tint.
12:46 Dyrcona ugh. While writing the POD for my race condition inducing script, I discover a few changes that I should make to it because a couple of local expectations/exceptions are baked in.
12:47 Dyrcona I have to get the event_definition ids for the autorenew events via a search: easy enough.
12:48 Dyrcona Looks like the main query can also lose the join on actor.usr and just use the circulation's circ_lib instead of the usr's home_ou.
12:54 Dyrcona I'm adding this to the test-scripts because it can be used to test the patch. I'm not sure it's exactly the right place but i couldn't think of anywhere else to put it.
12:55 justdoglet Possibly slightly OT, and let me know if so -- does anyone use Apache mod_security in front of EG? If so, are there any particular resources that helped you find/create rules for EG? Like lots of folks, we have issues with bots. We're evaluating possible solutions, and one is compatible with mod_security rulesets, so it seemed like a good bet to ask if anyone else is using it.
12:56 Dyrcona We don't mind off topic here, and that sound topical to me. We don't use mod_security. We're blocking bots on Evergreen with nginx tricks. Bmagic could explain it better than I can.
12:57 justdoglet Awesome. Thank you, Dyrcona!
12:58 Dyrcona I think we might have recently changed to using something in Google cloud firewalls.... I don't remember really well, there's been A LOT going on lately.
12:58 justdoglet I can imagine! It's an active time out there.
12:59 Dyrcona Back to my previous monlogue, I think it's gonna take longer to write the documentation for this script than it did to write the script. :)
13:01 Dyrcona Oh yeah... It's not Google firewalls. We set up a teergube...tarpit.
13:03 justdoglet Aha! That's something I've been considering, too. If I can't get rid of them, I'd sooner try to redirect them to another VM that will sit there and trickle bytes out over several minutes.
13:03 * Dyrcona needs to switch gears for a moment and look into an acquisitions fund source question.
13:03 justdoglet Yes, of course. Don't mind me. :)

13:55 * Dyrcona sets up a test of the final script via at.
15:20 Bmagic justdoglet: one minute, I'm finding a link for you
15:21 Bmagic I'm away from my computer this week, attending a conference, but I happend to see IRC just now
15:23 justdoglet Thank you! I appreciate it.
15:24 Bmagic justdoglet: found it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1j-PgUEor1fkrLbjkNpD8kw3HhcJgXAiiEUKrtx8j8w8/edit?tab=t.0
15:26 Bmagic We're looking at rolling out Anubis too, in concert with GeoIP, and nepenthes tarpit
15:26 Bmagic Here's an example of a tarpit in action: https://catalogue.ozarkregional.org/books
15:28 sandbergja Bmagic++
15:29 sandbergja thanks for the nepenthes example; I hadn't seen an example of that in production before, just the demo site I think
15:37 justdoglet Bmagic++ Thanks again!
