11:34 Stompro Hello Friday Morning Evergreen Channel.  I recently tried out using the patron address print template to create our new account welcome letters that we mail out for online applications.  And that worked great.  But it does take over the functionality there.  Is there any way to add arbitrary print templates right now, and trigger them somehow?
11:38 Dyrcona Stompro: Action trigger?
11:40 Stompro Is there a way for front line staff to trigger that to generate on demand?  That is the nice thing about how the print address template is setup.  And the fact that each workstation can have custom templates easily.
11:41 Stompro Obviously there is, thinking about the email and sms test notices.
11:42 Dyrcona There's a way to trigger when a new patron is created. Action triggers can also be triggered on demand, examples include printing/emailing/downloading bib information the OPAC, downloading circulation history, etc.
11:43 Stompro This wouldn't be for all new patrons is the issue, just the ones that need a welcome letter printed, which is just a subset of them.
11:45 Dyrcona You said it was for online account sign ups? If you can't find a hook for those, you could use the normal hook and add a filter that identifies only the online account sign ups.
11:46 jeff it sounds like you have staff doing this by retrieving the patrons one by one, perhaps based on a report or some other list. would be meet your need to log out of the staff client and log in again selecting a workstation that you have configured in the "print the letters" way, then log out when done and return to your normal workstation with its normal print templates?
11:46 Stompro Dyrcona, thanks, I'll look into that route also.
11:47 jeff the other option, if this is done in batches / based on a report, is a more standard mail merge.
11:47 jeff we use our reporter for that.
11:48 Dyrcona Stompro: There are two hooks that might work: au.created - "A user was created" or stgu.created - "Patron requested a card using self-registration"
11:48 jeff though in this case I think the letter is pre-made and we're just printing the labels (a pdf of all the labels is sent via email when there are any accounts matching the criteria)
11:48 * Dyrcona would prefer totally automated solutions... :)
11:48 jeff well, sure.
11:48 Stompro jeff, yep, one by one.  And what you described is how we are now doing it.  We were using mail merge, that just has a lot more steps for staff to do.
11:48 jeff but that's not always possible. :-)
11:49 jeff (given requirements and constraints)
11:49 Dyrcona There's also au.updated which might work with a more complicated filter depending on when you want to send the letter.
11:50 jeff a general "print a letter for this patron" feature might be handy in a few places. we do something similar for missing pieces, I think.
11:50 Stompro We could just print labels... we have just been using window mailers so were looking at printing the full letter.
11:50 jeff "print a letter (of one of these types) for this patron"
11:51 jeff and yeah, if there's nothing special about the letter, print the label, hand-write a "welcome, John!" note at the top, stuff, mail. :-)
11:51 Dyrcona You could use a trigger to generate the letters, then convert them to PDF and print them.
11:51 Dyrcona We do that for overdue notices.
11:51 jeff (it's all a matter of volume and batchy-ness how automated you want to make it)
11:51 Stompro jeff, yes, a print a letter feature is what I was envisioning.
11:52 Dyrcona I'd prefer not to add new features when something that exists can do the job.
11:52 Dyrcona Though the "print a letter" could be implemented as an on demand action trigger.
11:52 jeff right.
11:52 * Dyrcona steps out for a few to make a Wendy's run....
12:00 Stompro Dyrcona, the printing templates seem like they are an existing feature also.  They just seem easier to setup and customize.

13:52 dluch Is it possible to set up a Circulation Duration Rule that is, basically, "from now to when the library closes," pulling from org unit hours? Scenario is for Reserves that are library use only, but the libraries still want them checked out to the patron for the remainer of the day, regardless of what time they check the item(s) out.
13:53 dluch I found this bug, though it doesn't directly address my question, exactly: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1064679
13:53 pinesol Launchpad bug 1064679 in Evergreen "Hourly due dates and fines ignore library closings" [Medium,Confirmed] - Assigned to Dan Wells (dbw2)
14:04 jihpringle dluch: I haven't looked at hourly loans in a while but I want to say no, it's not currently possible
14:04 jihpringle I don't hourly loans are smart enough to truncate to closing time
14:05 jihpringle should have been "I don't think"
14:12 mmorgan dluch: I tend to agree with jihpringle. I also haven't looked at hourly loans in a while.
14:16 dluch Thanks! That's kinda what I thought, but hadn't ever been asked it before, so thought I'd check. :-)
14:19 jihpringle dluch: I think the workaround we gave our libraries was to use the specific due date, now that it has a time picker, if the item would otherwise be due after closing
14:21 * Dyrcona removed dbwells from the bug because I don't think he's working on it anymore.

14:44 Stompro dluch, we have laptops that we checkout for the day, the duration rule has the normal time set to 00:00:00 which sets the due date to 11:59:59pm or 23:59:59.
14:45 jeff same here, but I think they're hoping for the loans to be due before then.
14:45 jeff that does help if the current behavior is to roll the due date to when the library is open next, but I don't think that's the case.
14:53 Stompro What would be the end goal of having the due time be the library closing time I wonder?  To show on the receipt?  To send an overdue notice immediately after closing, or right before closing?
14:59 jihpringle for some of our libraries I think they wanted fines to start being charged at closing as well as having the due date time show up on the receipt and in My Account for the students

15:06 Stompro We don't use shorter checkout periods normally, so I don't know how a 2 hour checkout works when it is 1 hour until closing.  Should it truncate the checkout to the closing time?
