Ooh. Asking LibreOffice to open a 31MB CSV might be a mistake. |
09:34 |
Dyrcona |
It survived, and deleting a big text column knocked the size down to 3 MB. |
09:36 |
Dyrcona |
That makes it sound like a single cell was 32MB. I dropped the error message column, 'cause they're all the same error with different details. |

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like pinesol ends up getting a large percentage of the desserts. |

indeed, welcome to december. how in the world did we get here so quickly? |

no, idea, it was September, I blinked and I'm here now |

So, I am having fun with malformed MARC rerords. They have empty 901$b, and it turns out that tcn_source in biblio.record_entry is null for these records. That isn't supposed to be because the column is defined as "not null default 'AUTOGEN'::text." |
12:07 |
Dyrcona |
Now I have to figure out what, if anything, these records have in common and how they're getting a null in bre.tcn_source when that should not be possible. |

suspects there is a bug somewhere. |
12:17 |
Dyrcona |
Althought whatever it is/was appears to have stopped in April of 2021. |
12:25 |
Dyrcona |
Some of the records appear to have been "broken" since migration to Evergreen. |
13:42 |
Dyrcona |
Interestingly enough, the last of these coincides with the date we upgraded to Evergreen 3.5.3, so we must have had some fix int that upgrade that resolved this. |
13:45 |
jeffdavis |
3.5 seems so long ago, and then I remember that when I started working with EG we were on like 1.2... |
13:49 |
kmlussier |
jeffdavis: When I started, the community was on 1.6. I remember at our first MassLNC meeting, Dyrcona was telling us we should all be looking to migrate to 2.0 because it would have all the new stuff coming with the KCLS grant. In the end, we went live with later releases, but I can't forget all the hype around that one particular release. |
13:49 |
kmlussier |
3.5 doesn't seem long ago to me because it happened after I left. |
14:00 |
Dyrcona |
For us 3.5.3 was April of 2021. I had a quick look at our old 3.5.3 branch and didn't see anything in the DB upgrade. I bet there was a patch to Vandelay or something like that. |
14:05 |
Dyrcona |
I think I'm going to have to postpone my fix test until Monday at the latest. It doesn't look like my script to dump the pretest data for later comparison with post-test data is going to finish in a reasonable time. |
14:06 |
Dyrcona |
My test db refreshes this Sunday morning, so I'd have to do this all over again anyway. |
14:09 |

The '80s were just 20 years ago, right? :) |

So, I'm thinking array_agg on asset.copy_notes.value.... |
16:07 |
Rogan |
kmlussier if I'm remembering correctly we went live in SC on 1.6 as well |
16:10 |
Dyrcona |
hm... array_agg won't work, 'cause I'm building objects... I'll have to figure out how to manually "flesh" the rows in DBI. |
16:10 |
* Dyrcona |
reimplements cstore and fieldmapper..... |
16:11 |
Dyrcona |
Rogan: kmlusssier signed out a while ago. |
16:13 |
Dyrcona |
I'll have to look at from_bare_hash again, but maybe array on the whole rows will work, if I somehow map it with the field names..... This is too much for after 4 pm on a Friday. |
16:13 |
Dyrcona |
I really don't want to do another query to grab copy notes. Stompro spent so much effort speeding this up. |
16:14 |
Dyrcona |
This is all re Lp 2045440 |

Launchpad bug 2045440 in Evergreen "Add Public Copy Notes to MARC export when items requested" [Wishlist,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/2045440 - Assigned to Jason Stephenson (jstephenson) |
16:14 |
Rogan |
Dyrcona yeah, I noticed right I sent it. i've been in blacksmith mood just hammering away and not noticing irc |
16:15 |
Dyrcona |
Rogan: Yeah, I get like that most of the time, and now I have Slack to ignore, too! :) |
16:15 |
Rogan |
same :) |
16:19 |
berick |
Rogan: whatya making? |
16:19 |
Dyrcona |
So, I have a thought for a possible solution to get the public copy notes: I join in the query, array_agg the fields into the results as whatever the field is called in the Fieldmapper entry for acp, then map the field names on the rows. Assuming, of course, that from_bare_hash can actually flesh the objects. |
16:21 |
Rogan |
berick: well the metaphorical black smithing is migration work, literally blacksmithing wise I'm installing venting in my workshop this month for a coal forge |
16:21 |
Rogan |
I've done a tiny bit before with a small propane forge but this will let me do bigger projects |
16:22 |
Stompro |
Dyrcona, I haven't shared the branch yet that bulk loads the items like the bibs yet. I'm not sure it is worth it, it didn't speed it up that much for me. Went from 300K queries to 95 total though. But the memory usage back up significantly. |
16:22 |
berick |
Rogan: oh, cool |

I need to get some real hobbies. |
16:26 |
Dyrcona |
I used ta have a couple, then "life" happend. |
16:26 |
Rogan |
mostly I want to make my own kitchen knives and fixtures for around the house, goblets would be an interesting challenge due to the shape, pins I hadn't thought of hmmmmmm |
16:26 |
Dyrcona |
Re public copy notes: I suppose if I have to, I can array_agg the rows and then manipulate the result set before call from_bare_hash. |
16:27 |
Dyrcona |
Swords. I always wanted to make swords. |
16:29 |
Stompro |
I'm also a hobby collector, but mainly I just think about them.... just found plans for building a sailboat with 6 sheets of plywood on the cheap. |
16:29 |
Dyrcona |
A plywood sailboat.... Better invest in flotations vests, too. ;) |
16:30 |
Stompro |
Dyrcona, just add another query and see how it performs before making it convoluted. |
16:30 |
Dyrcona |
Stompro: You're probably right. Most copies won't have too many notes. |
16:31 |
Stompro |
Lots of epoxy and some fiberglass is added, plus two big sealed flotation chambers, looks like it doesn't sink easy. |
16:32 |
Stompro |
Rogan, can you work Stainless Steel in a home forge? |
16:34 |
* Dyrcona |
should look into blacksmith classes. I know there are some around here. |
16:34 |
Rogan |
Stompro I think so, I'm a newb at this but my understanding is you just need to be careful in the quench because if you miss the target temperature too much you screw up the chromium |
16:35 |
Rogan |
that reminds me, I should buy one of those fancy blacksmithing temperature readers rather than eyeball the color of the metal |
16:35 |
Dyrcona |
Bet my neighbors would love that at 6:00 AM on a Saturday morning..... |
16:36 |

I consider it revenge for my neighbors and their compulsive obsessive lawn care with gasoline powered tools |
16:36 |
Rogan |
but I'm out, have a good weekend all! |
16:36 |
