08:49 * kmlussier wanders off to practice singing a 8:42 song just in case.

09:12 Dyrcona Some peole have wonderful timing. Friday before an upgrade they ask to change their logo in the OPAC.
09:15 Dyrcona Related to that. I have a question for Bmagic....
09:17 Dyrcona Sinkiewicz: "You're gettin' to be a real problem child."
09:29 JBoyer Dyrcona, aren't you a little young to be overriding the system? ;)
09:30 JBoyer And here's a fun thing I found this morning if anyone needs to have more fun on a Friday: https://tabloid.vercel.app/ PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE.
09:31 Dyrcona Tempting as that is, I don't think it will replace whitespace:https://esolangs.org/wiki/Whitespace
09:38 csharp_ JBoyer++
09:40 Dyrcona JBoyer++
09:40 JBoyer I remember whitespace. I feel like they missed a trick not finding a way to make use of vertical-tab and non-breaking-space. :D
09:42 Dyrcona I never tried to use it, not even for the silly factor.
09:42 Dyrcona JBoyer: You got the wrong guy. I'm trying to take over the tristate area, not build a roller coaster. :)
09:43 csharp_ EXPERTS CLAIM ... TO BE is a hilarious way to assign a variable
09:43 Bmagic JBoyer++ # omg, that is friggin hilarious
09:45 JBoyer I'm partial to WHAT IF ... LIES!
09:46 JBoyer That's how a lot of my coding / troubleshooting goes.
09:46 Dyrcona Heh. That's LIES for all of us. :)
09:50 Bmagic this is genius. Can we get this integrated in Evergreen somehow
09:51 Bmagic Maybe make all of the YAOUS more fun by converting the types to tabloid
09:59 csharp_ reminds me of the NPM module named "Make Fetch Happen"
09:59 csharp_ https://www.npmjs.com/package/make-fetch-happen
10:00 csharp_ that's a real module, just with a clever name
10:00 JBoyer It would be a lot more fun if any of us had heard of it separately from trying to find out why it causes builds to fail.
10:00 csharp_ ha!
10:00 JBoyer (or used to, anyway)
10:00 csharp_ I hadn't seen it cause failures
10:01 JBoyer I've had to bump the 5MB limit to 25 for some reason back in the day. I don't recall the last time it's happened though.
10:08 Dyrcona JBoyer: I remember bumping that limit, too.
10:09 Dyrcona Something to do with building/fetching Typescript, IIRC.
10:11 Dyrcona Hmm. This is weird. I've got my phone playing all music tracks on shuffle, and it's just played 3 by XTC in a row.
10:18 berick Dyrcona: i heard somewhere spotify had to change their random/shuffle to be less random / more intentionally random cuz people felt it wasn't really random
10:18 berick cuz stuff like 3 in a row just happens
10:19 Dyrcona Yeah, 3 in a row does happen. They weren't from the same albums.
10:21 Dyrcona It's playing a long Jethro Tull song, now. It would have been less surprising if it played 3 by JT in a row. I have almost all of their studio stuff and a live compilation or two. They represent about 9% of my collection.
10:22 Dyrcona And now, some Warren Zevon....
10:22 Bmagic I've been a subscriber of pandora for about 5 years. Still good. I'm sure all these services basically work the same
10:23 Bmagic But I can say that I've not heard the same song twice in a row, ever, that I can recall anyways
10:23 Dyrcona Well, this is the Samsung Music Player (i.e. basic Android music app with Samsung modifications) playing files stored on the phone. I don't subscribe to a service.
10:23 Bmagic ah, now I understand
10:23 Dyrcona Yeah, I've not heard the same song twice in a row, either.
10:23 * Dyrcona tries to figure out why his usage() shell function isn't working.
10:25 Dyrcona Oh no... I should delete this demented collection of Tchaikovsky "covers."
10:27 Dyrcona XTC again... :)
10:32 Dyrcona Ok.. Firgued out the problem. I was trying to use a HEREDOC with echo. Changed it to cat, and it works.
10:41 jeff Huh. Just got a sales call from a vendor saying that they "had heard" that I was going to be at the Evergreen conference, and wanting to schedule a time to meet, and to invite me to attend their "presentation". Did I miss a "don't share my personal information for marketing purposes" checkbox again?
10:49 jeff Perhaps I did: "One week before the conference, all exhibitors will be emailed a pre-show list of attendees and their contact information (attendees do have the option to opt out). There is no additional cost for this service."
10:55 Bmagic jeff: lol. It's a new world we live in now. I've been worn out trying. I gave up and trained my brain to fuzz out ad's and false invitations. It's a biological adblocker at this point. Pretty reliable.
10:57 Bmagic I guess you could say I've installed the brain add-on/extension
10:57 * Dyrcona doesn't remember seeing such an option, but I signed up months ago, and memory for "inconsequential" things ain't what it used to be.
11:04 jeff I don't see any option to opt out, and I looked for one when I registered. I suspect that someone forgot to give attendees the option.
11:08 Bmagic terranm++ # newdevs wiki
11:08 * Dyrcona would like to opt out of a lot of things.....

12:58 jeffdavis Not sure if it was sent in response to the discussion above, but I just got an email with an option to opt out of sharing attendee info.
12:59 Dyrcona jeffdavis: Same here. I didn't mention anything outside of the channel.
13:00 jeffdavis Remote attendee registration only ended yesterday, so it would make sense it would go out today if it couldn't be included during registration.
13:01 jeff jeffdavis: I believe it was sent not in direct response to the above, but in response to a inquiry I sent to the conference organizer. :-)
13:02 jeffdavis that'll do it :)

13:05 Dyrcona hrm.. One of my git aliases doesn't work....
13:06 Dyrcona That's nor surprising, but it is disappointing. I will have to update my presentation.
13:13 Dyrcona Ah... It was working. It's the stupid mailmap....

13:47 csharp_ jeff++ # for the good of inboxes everywhere
13:59 jeff "HI JEFF! Thanks for visiting our booth at "conference you haven't gone to in years but we still have your email in our leads from 7 years ago!"
14:01 jeff "You are receiving this email because: we made something up so that we could tell our marketing company that you opted in when you have in fact never heard of us."
14:01 JBoyer The one benefit of this particular group of vendors is that I'm unlikely to receive any "Hello JASON, how many Evergreen's can we put you down for?"
14:06 Dyrcona Frankly, commercial junk is the least of my privacy concerns.
14:11 jeff (if it's unclear, I was responding to csharp's inboxes comment, and neither of those lines is referring to this conference)
14:18 * Dyrcona decides to leave it at that before things get political.
