query: I stood up a fulfillment server thinking it would be an Evergreen-ILS with something extra. Should the evergreen part of this behave like an EG 3.6 if I’ve installed it properly? |

@decide administration or cataloging |

Dyrcona: go with cataloging |

Hmm. is marc_export Administration, Architecture, or Cataloging? |

Friday is a bad day to try to communicate complex ideas in a simple manner. |

Maybe lunch will help? Having a headache certainly doesn't. |
12:01 |
Dyrcona |
Yeah, I should have just taken a sick day. I can't even keyboard correctly....Not in Gmail anyway. |
12:04 |
jvwoolf |
Dyrcona: I hope you feel better |
12:05 |

stephengwills: I know we talked a bit already, but I don't think FF will work as an EG instance because of the way it views org units |
12:05 |
jvwoolf |
If you do a search in FF based on org unit, you get back results for everything outside of that org unit |
12:06 |
jvwoolf |
And if you place a hold on an item, in EG you'd want it to target your own items first, but in FF it will target everything BUT your items |
12:06 |
jvwoolf |
Not sure how that would affect other EG functions, because it's really only meant to be used as an ILL system |
12:07 |

Y'know what my other problem is? No music. I haven't been listening to music this morning. |

jvwoolf I’m going to need a bigger item dataset and a few more orgs to get this through my thick skull. It still feels like it is close to what I want. Right now I’m still chewing on when I am ffstaff and when I am egstaff. it feels a little like a tennis match. ;-P. Thanks. |

I am loving the ffstaff interface however. hat tip to da boyz down south for that. |

@band add Da Boyz Down South |

jvwoolf: I would agree with your view, also while FF is built on top of a foundation of Evergreen it is modified for ILL purposes and some of that could potentially work counter to normal ILS operations (though I can't think of an example off hand) |
12:38 |
rhamby |
could you make FF work as an ILS, sure it has a lot of overlap with Evergreen but you'll run into hassles like those pointed out |
12:41 |
rhamby |
but they do work really well together :) |
12:41 |
rhamby |
and if a lot of evergreen libraries wanted to run a FF instance with Evergreen I can imagine some dev that would make them really happy friends |

ok, verdict in, thanks. I’ll stand up an EG beside FF and stop trying to reinvent the wheel. That saves me a boat load of upgrading as well. Thanks guys. |

realizes that FF = FulfILLment and not firefox :-) |

So, I blame pingest for the backup in WAL deletion. I still have some from yesterday c. 3:20 PM EDT hanging around, but they do seem to be disappearing slowly. |

Dyrcona: yes, pingest creates crazy amounts of WAL |
15:49 |
csharp_ |
all in all, it's just another brick in the WAL |
16:08 |
Dyrcona |
Uh-huh.... I had never noticed it before. It may be causing issues with one of our SIP users, but that may also be a coincidence. |
16:09 |
Dyrcona |
Well, I never noticed it being this bad before, except that time it crashed my multi-terabyte db server with the symspell triggers enabled. |
16:09 |

I have symspell turned off. |

Also, i failed at trying to come up with a Pink Floyd pun. I was going to try and play off the title of some other song from The Wall, but gave up. |

made a tea about two hours ago and forgot about it. It's been steeping all that time. Guess I'll go ice it and drink it. |
16:24 |
Dyrcona |
I suppose I should use a smaller batch size. miker said something about using a batch size of 5, or was it 2? |
16:25 |
Dyrcona |
Ten thousand just seemed reasonable enough given the size of most databases. I guess a max. child of 8 is also a bit large. I admit the defaults are arbitrary. |
16:27 |
Dyrcona |
pingest needs a way to pick up where it left off. I suppose there is if you dump a list of ids and feed it yourself. |
16:28 |
Dyrcona |
I guess it's just gonna break....my WALs.... |
