sighs. I reported a wishlist bug that I'm no longer interested in, but 33 people say it affects them. I want to set the bug to "Won't Fix." |
08:59 |

Dyrcona: Which bug? |

Launchpad bug 1779319 in Evergreen "Add ISBN subfield q to record summary." [Wishlist,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1779319 |
09:02 |
csharp_ |
we need an inolongerwishthat tag |
09:03 |
Dyrcona |
I was thinking an "Abandoned" status, but a tag would work. |
09:03 |
csharp_ |
actually "abandoned" is pretty accurate |
09:04 |
Dyrcona |
If someone else wants to take it up, fee free. It was something we did as a hack for TTOPAC, and I don't think it would be appropriate for BOOPAC. |
09:04 |
csharp_ |
you might just say that in a comment on the bug |
09:05 |
Dyrcona |
Yeah, that makes sense. |

Hmm.. One of my reasons for not being interested in it anymore is I had $q confused with $z. |
09:11 |
Dyrcona |
I think I'll review my reported bugs and ask others here at CW MARS if we have any interest in them and to give them a priority. |
09:12 |
Dyrcona |
That's 63 bugs not counting the "Fix Committed" ones. |
09:14 |
rfrasur |
$q is a new thing with RDA, iirc. |
09:14 |
rfrasur |
but not sure about wanting it in item summary... |
09:15 |
rfrasur |
there's a point when the summary isn't a summary anymore and becomes a record view. |
09:16 |
Dyrcona |
rfrasur: Good point about the summary. |
09:16 |
Dyrcona |
The qualifier showed in TTOPAC for the older records that don't have it in $q, but have it in $a with the ISBN proper. I haven't checked if that is the case for BOOPAC. |
09:24 |
mmorgan |
Dyrcona: FWIW, the $q does not show in BOOPAC |
09:27 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: Thanks. Is that even for older records that don't have a $q? |
09:29 |
mmorgan |
Dyrcona: For older records that have extra info included in $a along with the ISBN proper, the extra info *does* show in the BOOPAC. |
09:30 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: Thanks, again. I was just now trying to find such a record on our training server to check for myself. So far the one I've looked at has neither a $q nor extra info. |
09:31 |

mangles records on our test/training system when necessary :) |
09:31 |
Dyrcona |
yeah, I could do that, but thought I'd try finding one first. |
09:32 |
Dyrcona |
And, I found one with the extra info that shows up: Coelho's The Alchemist. |
09:33 |
Dyrcona |
Also, Coelho is in YA at some libraries? I never thought of his work as YA. |

09:48 |
Dyrcona |
I don't know how much I'm allowed to say, but CW MARS asked for quotes to add a "Summary" tab to the Angular Staff Catalog. |
09:49 |
Dyrcona |
It is primarily aimed at cataloging needs. |

The Launchpad entry for bug 1642000 says Fix Committed, but there's no target. It looks like it was released in 3.8 beta. |

mmorgan |
This caused us some confusion so I would like to update the target and status, but don't see a way to update the target to 3.8 beta. What's the secret? |
14:20 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: The secret is being anointed to reactivate the target on Launchpad. I'll take care of it. |

Thanks! Confusion managed! |

What to call a second test VM for Ubuntu 22.04? I plan to name the first one "jammy," so the obvious name is taken. |
14:32 |
Dyrcona |
Ok, devjam it is. |

A few libraries reported being down just after noon. open-ils.actor drones were at 50%. Restarting services resolved it. Logs are not showing me anything that looks particularly out of the ordinary, as far as I can tell. Any ideas about troubleshooting this? |
14:46 |
Dyrcona |
jvwoolf: What do you mean by "down?" |
14:47 |
jvwoolf |
Evergreen slowed down to a crawl for them and they weren't able to do anything |
14:48 |
Dyrcona |
Well, that could be a lot of things. If it was hard down, I'd have asked if they share the same ISP, which might still be relevant. |
14:49 |
Dyrcona |
You can check the logs to see if anything unusual was going on at that time, but it can be difficult to diagnose the cause of slowness after the fact. |
14:50 |
Dyrcona |
jvwoolf: You said restarting actor drones seemed to help. What is your max children setting for the actor service? |
14:51 |
jvwoolf |
Dyrcona: 256 |
14:51 |
Dyrcona |
So, you were running 128 more or less. It is just the one server? |
14:53 |
Dyrcona |
Did you happen to check the load before restarting services? The server may have just been busy. |
14:53 |
jvwoolf |
Yeah, 130. And yes, that was just on one server |
14:54 |
Dyrcona |
How many brick servers do you have? /me is full of questions. |
14:55 |
jvwoolf |
Dyrcona: We only have 2 app bricks running the web client currently, 2 bricks running opac only, plus a utility server, cataloging, and z3950 server |
14:55 |
jvwoolf |
I noticed when I logged in it didn't report the load to me like usual. Now the I look back I see this message: System information disabled due to load higher than 16.0 |
14:57 |
Dyrcona |
Ah... That was probably the cause. |
14:57 |
Dyrcona |
Might have been using a lot RAM, too. High load and high memory use with swapping often go hand in hand. |
14:59 |
jvwoolf |
Dyrcona: I've been wondering lately if we need to put another app server for web client activity into the mix. We've been getting reports of daily slowdowns, though they are brief |
15:05 |
Dyrcona |
Could be that it is time for another brick. |
15:06 |
Dyrcona |
I've seen crazy requests, like an actor user search that basically asks for every patron, cause similar issues. You could grep the logs for something like "id<>'undef'" |
15:34 |
|
Keith_isl joined #evergreen |
15:38 |
jvwoolf |
Dyrcona: Not finding that in osrfsys or gateway for the hour in question. Should I be looking anywhere else? |
15:38 |
jvwoolf |
Although it doesn't look like too many patron searches were happening at time of the incident, TBH |
15:39 |
Dyrcona |
jvwoolf: It would be in the osrfsys logs. Any search for id <> undef could do it. It basically says, give me the whole table. It may not be the case for your incident, though. |
15:40 |
jvwoolf |
Dyrcona++ #Thanks for your help with this |
15:43 |
Dyrcona |
Not sure I was much help. I guess one other question is does this happen often at about the same time on the same day of the week? If so, that could be an indication that you're busier at those times and may need another brick. |
