Happy Monday! We were offline for scheduled maintenance yesterday, and we're pretty sure no one was able to access offline circ. Has anybody had this happen before? |
09:24 |
Dyrcona |
jvwoolf: Yes. I've seen offline fail to work if the web server or network are still accessible. It seems to work best when the local network goes down. |
09:25 |
jvwoolf |
Dyrcona: Wow, really? We brought the whole stack down for OS upgrades, but the network was still online. |

I guess there's nothing we can do to make sure it's avaialble? |
09:27 |
Dyrcona |
It has been a while since I've tried forcing offline circulation to come up. I recall that if my local network was up and had a route to the Evergreen server, then offline didn't work, even if Apache was shutdown. |
09:28 |
JBoyer |
jvwoolf, forcing the load balancer IPs down may be enough. |
09:29 |
Dyrcona |
That would probably fix it. |
09:30 |
jvwoolf |
JBoyer: Thanks, I'll send a note to our sys admin for next time |
09:30 |
jvwoolf |
Just to clarify though, that would mean that patrons wouldn't get the "catalog is unavailable" message when trying to get to the catalog? |
09:30 |
Dyrcona |
That's correct. |
09:31 |
Dyrcona |
You'd want to drop the shared IP address, i.e. the external IP address, in the load balancer. |
09:31 |
jvwoolf |
JBoyer++ Dyrcona++ |
09:32 |
Dyrcona |
Someone should come up with a fix for that. Maybe also if the staff login won't load? |

Dyrcona: jvwoolf1: Sounds like there should be a Launchpad entry for Offline failing to load. I didn't see one, I can open one unless someone else wants to. |
10:19 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: Sounds good to me. |
10:24 |

We have had that issue, we just thought they had not cached it. hmm. mmorgan if you create the ticket, I will add heat. We even had the Load Balancer down. |
10:24 |
JBoyer |
I'm not certain that's a "we can fix it" thing; it may be something about how the browsers react to being able to contact a server that just doesn't return what they expect. |

JBoyer: Do other browser-based ILSes not offer offline circ? |
10:51 |
JBoyer |
Koha also has one that uses LocalStorage, thoughI can't imagine it's used on the same scale since it requires you to download some data about all users, items, and something about circs to use. |
10:53 |
JBoyer |
Though what I'm less sure about is whether any browser based ILS staff clients try to do offline mode automatically the way we do. That may be the tricky bit. |
10:54 |
alynn26 |
I've seen others offer an offline mode, but there is another downloaded app involved. |
10:57 |
JBoyer |
For Koha at least you're supposed to bookmark the offline circ url so you can get to it on connection failure. They also offer a FF plugin and downloadable Windows app to get around LocalStorage limits. |
11:00 |
alynn26 |
That may be the direction with offline we should go, is a downloadable app. Something that works a lot more consistent then the current offline Mode. |
11:00 |
jvwoolf1 |
alynn26: I agree. |

Hello. I've installed evergreen from official tarball(non-developer version). Staff client should work without AngularJS too as I Undestend. |

mixo: not sure what you're working from, but AngJS/Angular is required |
12:36 |
csharp_ |
and JS has to be enabled in the browser accordingly |
12:39 |

hmmm - looks like there's still something gobbling up open-ils.actor drones |

I am working from non-developer version |

last week was super calm - now I'm back to close monitoring and restarts |
12:39 |
JBoyer |
mixo, If the client works in incognito mode but not normally, you may need to clear all cookies and data related to your Evergreen URL and try to login again |
12:40 |
csharp_ |
mixo: AngJS/Angular is included in the tarball version |
12:40 |
csharp_ |
nothing in our logs point to anything specific regarding the drone flooding |
12:42 |
mixo |
I've thought angular steps only for developers |
12:45 |
csharp_ |
mixo: you don't have to follow the developer instructions if you're using the tarball, but AngularJS and Angular are included - you said " Staff client should work without AngularJS too as I Undestend." |

What can I do with localization? I get this error if I try another language than en-US: "https://evergreen.tsu.ge/IDL2js?locale=ka-GE net::ERR_ABORTED 500 |
12:49 |
mixo |
I've tried for russian and same error |
12:50 |
Dyrcona |
mixo: Unless you translated the IDL and installed it appropriately, you won't be able to download a localized IDL. It's only available in en-US as far as I know. |
12:54 |
mixo |
I've translated and there is official Russian translations too |
12:55 |
Dyrcona |
You have to set the translations up in the Apache configurations. The IDL is not translated as far as I know. I am also NOT a localization expert. |
12:55 |
mixo |
ok |
12:57 |
mixo |
Thank you for response |
12:57 |
JBoyer |
mixo, there are a couple examples in the example eg.conf for apache that will show you how to enable Canadian French translations, but the process is the same for other locales. |
13:02 |
Bmagic |
mixo: your login issue is almost certainly a browser issue. Like JBoyer was saying. Did you get that worked out? |
